JAL Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 When you start reading headings like offering Benjani a new deal, it gets you thinking that there might not be any money made available come the summer. The strategy seems to be we will talk about this, that costs several millions of pounds, yet the reality or final outcome will be that they deliver this for a total cost of next to nothing

The Rover of Finland Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Klose hasn´t played a lot for Bayern this season. He would be a great big name signing. No doubt Venky´s will chase a big fish again. Or atleast let us think so.
Gav Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Our best summer signing could be keeping hold of Samba, sounded like he was again magnificent today and we're surely going to have bids made during the summer.

There will be a few players out in the summer. Roberts, Grella, Andrews, Dunn...??
47er Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Maybe it's because he's worked hard and deserves a new contract. There will be a few players out in the summer. Roberts, Grella, Andrews, Dunn...?? On the matter of players out I'm more worried about Samba, Jones(P),N'Zonzi, Hoilett and Givet. Add Robbo to that list if Spurs come calling.

Roberts? Do you think so Chocky. Kean gave him a new extension on his contract, and he has been one of our regular starting striker since Allardyce was sacked (despite how awful he is). He is Keans little bum chum(and did I hear a mention of him being a Kentaro client? correct me if i'm wrong). Either way he's not going anywhere. Is Grellas contract up this season? If it isn't then he wont be going anywhere. Situation like the Amoruso one, just waiting his contract out.
Brandeburg Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Former Rangers striker enters Blackburn orbit 91 goals/283 matches (1 in 3) in Scotland, 1 in 9 in Spain, 32 years old, no thanks. Hopefully just gossip.

joey_big_nose Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 The last three or four games have made me really excited about next season - which is an odd thing when it is still possible we will be relegated. In terms of quality across the team I am now convinced we have the best mix of talent since Bellamy was at the club. Nzonzi and J Jones make a very solid and strong midfield, Nzonzi in particular coming on leaps and bounds, complimented by significant creative outlets in Olsson and Hoilett. Defence, even with the loss of Nelsen, is packed with performers. Samba, Salgado and P Jones have been outstanding. Robinson has had an excellent season in goal. On top of that Rochina and Formica seem to be making waves in the reserves which will hopefully add to our attacking options. The main (admittedly huge) issue is striker where we are completely without quality. This is the overwhelming concern in the summer, along with tying down J Jones and holding on to our wealth of very good young players. Another central combative midfielder to backup Nzonzi and J Jones would be great, and there are arguments for bringing in depth at both full back roles - although we have promising young players at left and right bac in the reserves. I will be devastated if events conspire against us, we are relegated, and left with the what if of this new golden generation. Its crucial we end the season by beating Wolves, and then Venky's need to do their bit in making funds available to get real quality in up front, and in convincing the talent that they are involved in something ambitious and special which they should see through.
RevidgeBlue Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I was starting to think the same, if we can keep Robinson, Samba, Phil Jones Hoilett and Olsson and sign Jermain Jones we are starting to get the nucleus of a useful starting eleven. Robinson Emerton/Salgado Samba Phil Jones Givet/new left back Hoillet Nzonzi J Jones Olsson It's after this where things start to go wrong. 5 senior strikers on the books and in an ideal world I wouldn't retain any of 'em. And they are the guys that cost the big money and will ultimately decide whether we flourish or struggle again next time round.
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I was starting to think the same, if we can keep Robinson, Samba, Phil Jones Hoilett and Olsson and sign Jermain Jones we are starting to get the nucleus of a useful starting eleven. Robinson Emerton/Salgado Samba Phil Jones Givet/new left back Hoillet Nzonzi J Jones Olsson Kean/manager needs to decide on tactics before buying any strikers. Does he buy a quality target man for 4-2-3-1 with 3 of Hoilett, Formica, Ruchina, Olsson, Dunn playing in the 3. Question is, do the club think those 5 players can provide enough goals? If not then it's going to be 4-4-2 or a diamond with 2 up front - and we need two players that can both finish. Whatever - quality striker/s are an absolute must in summer as we currently have nada.
Hughesy Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I know we are not safe yet. But a few players who I feel are 'gettable' and have proven themselves this season are Odemwingie & Sturridge - yes both will cost money, but then so does anyone that will score you goals. Both have pace & a real eye for goal. Then try and add someone like Kranjcar. I think its inevitable that Samba will leave....so its a case of who we can sign to replace him....Upson on a free?
John Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Apparently Kaka has not responded to the voicemail we left him (yet), could be an exciting summer ahead... Wonder if Venky's will still chase down a marquee signing even if we are relegated?

If we kept Jones and Givet, alongside Nelsen and Hanley, we wouldn't exactly be bereft in that position. If Samba goes and we get what he's worth there are definitely greater priorities eg left-back, J Jones, central mid-field, strikers--at least 2.

Don't rate Upson, I don't think I've ever seen him have a good game. I'd prefer Givet at centre back.

Amo Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Priorities for the summer, in order of importance: Strikers - Santa Cruz, Benjani & Diouf should be sent back, Kalinic could be off. That leaves Roberts and Blackman? That's two AT LEAST that we need. Left-back - Problem area for a little while now. Givet isn't a natural left-back, and we lose something when Olsson plays there. Defensive midfielder - Hopefully J. Jones, if we can cut a deal. He gives us that energy and tenacity we've missed since Savage. Attacking midfielder/playmaker - Depends on how Formica progresses but it wouldn't hurt to sign another playmaker, if funds are available.
J*B Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 I think it's fair to say: Gael (behind the scenes fall out) Samba (going to Arsenal) Hoillett (12 months on contract, either sell now or lose on a free) May well be going this year. Add to that the ###### we all want rid of: Grella Andrews Roberts Benjani Plus the loans we won't be renewing RSC (not good enough) J. Jones (Schalke have changed manager and probably want him back. Intact almost certainly) M.B Diouf We have quite the rebuilding to be done.
Fraserkirky Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Does anyone care to give a likely price range for J.Jones? The guy is a machine. Nicklas Bentner, Denilson and Joe Cole would be 3 guys who are leaving some big clubs this summer that we should be looking at. As far as left back goes I'd play Givet there against top 6 teams and play Olsson there against the rest.
Hughesy Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 If we kept Jones and Givet, alongside Nelsen and Hanley, we wouldn't exactly be bereft in that position. If Samba goes and we get what he's worth there are definitely greater priorities eg left-back, J Jones, central mid-field, strikers--at least 2. Hanley is not ready yet, he could do with a season out on loan. Nelsen is ageing and picks up a fair few niggles over the season. There is no doubt with Samba & Jones in defence we have been much better than when Nelsen was in there. As for Jermaine Jones - the good thing is he 'wants to stay'. Hoilett - well he needs a new contract the second we secure premiership survival.
The Rover of Finland Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Ba and Cole from Wham are good strikers. If Wigan also goes down could Rodallega be interesting one. Nzogbia is a good winger and a threat with his free kicks. Where will Adam go? Let´s pray Wayne Bridge won´t be linked to us as a left back.
robbie9282 Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Left back - Steven Warnock (2m?) Mid - Niko Krankjaer (2m?) or Bentley (4m?) Sriker - What about Jermaine Defoe (6m) if we could get him on the cheap ples at least 1 more. I think any of the above could be good as long as we get them on the cheap, all have played really well in the carers and maybe just need a move to refind there form. Def mid - Jermaine Jones (3m)
