Hughesy Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Ba & Daniel Sturridge would be a massive step forward....both know how to score goals in the prem.

chris Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Drunk? They are billionaires, they spend 63 million on a night out
bennyboyt11 Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Let's not forget Ba is a walking medical liability, the last thing we need is more players in that already crowded physio room of ours.
RibbleValleyRover Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Let's not forget Ba is a walking medical liability, the last thing we need is more players in that already crowded physio room of ours. Stoke found something in the medical that worried them so they pulled the plug on the deal, for example a degenerative condition in his knees. Unless Rovers were able to agree a rolling contract or a season by season deal then I wouldn't bring him to the club.

I wouldn't have any of this chap either, he's done well no doubting that, but given the crap we've had with crocks over the years we more than most other clubs should be wary of this kind of signing.
Amo Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 He is going on 30. A long term contract isnt quite visable. 2-3 year contract maybe Sounds about right. Short-term deals are the way forward for our club. Look at players like Grella, Pedersen and Andrews. I can understand tying the youngsters to long contracts but these guys? You're having a laugh. Just means we're lumbered with 'em for the foreseeable. JW, for all his merits, wasn't too hot on contract negotiations.
Mowie Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Yes Daniel Sturridge! I'd love to pair him and Defoe upfront here at rovers. Not beyond the realms of reality.

I can understand tying the youngsters to long contracts but these guys? You're having a laugh. Just means we're lumbered with 'em for the foreseeable. JW, for all his merits, wasn't too hot on contract negotiations. It's not JW's decision to decide on the relative merits of players, just to ensure that the club gets value for money and that the wages don't break the structure. MGP was a regular first teamer and signed a four year contract at the age of 28 - as long as the wages remained within the wage structure then JW was entirely right to sanction it. As regards the merits of signing him up that was Sam's decision, but for what it's worth due to the lack of left footed players, the fact he's still capable of putting in a good delivery and the fact he can do a decent job in the middle of the park, I think he's worth having round as a squad player. Plus he's never been a pacy player so should at least maintain a similar standard till the end of his contract. Grella was again a 28 year old - one can argue maybe he shouldve got a 3 year contract rather than a 4 year contract, but he was signed by Ince as a first teamer - the length of contract was still pretty reasonable here. Giving Andrews a new contract is something that I can't defend, but that's more of a black mark against Sam's name than against JW's. If the manager thinks he's worth it JW has to approve it, as long as it doesn't break the wage structure and he's not doing something stupid like giving a 35yo a 4 year contract.
RevidgeBlue Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 What about sending RSC back and swapping him for Bellamy now Cardiff have bombed in the Championship play offs again? Can't see him fancying another season in the Championship as much as he probably enjoys playing for his home town Club. Steven Warnock at LB, J Jones, if Venky's want a "marquis" signing get in first and blow everyone else out of the water for Scott Parker, Bellamy on loan and one other striker. Luvly jubbly. I'm obviously assuming we stay up and am probably dreaming as well but hey.

Bellamy, Warnock and Scot Parker would all represent the same kind value that RSC has provided for Rovers since his second home coming. We need new blood not old blood.
davulsukur Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Bellers and Warnock maybe, but Parker is class and would be an awesome signing for us. Shame it wont happen, his value will be through the roof and Arry will have made plans to snap him up as soon as N'zogbia scored the goal that sent them down.
Hughesy Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 What about sending RSC back and swapping him for Bellamy now Cardiff have bombed in the Championship play offs again? Rumours Bolton want him as part of the Cahill to City deal
Guest roverite1991 Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 I would be looking closer to home first. Given their performances (admittedly in the reserves) a few nights ago, Rochina and Formica should be VERY near starting places (although Rochina will have to heal). We should deffo make a permanent move for JJ, tie down Hoilett and any other excellent youth that I've missed out. In terms of players from elsewhere, I'd certainly be looking at Pirlo (as suggested above) if the wages are affordable. I'll be honest I don't have knowledge of any good strikers we could get for a decent price. I think prices above for players like Defoe are very much understated however. He's a £15million player AT LEAST in todays transfer climate.
Toodling Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 J.Jones needs a full deal Pirlo if at all possible would be amazing. Defoe - No thanks Ba - I'd take a shot since he can cleartly score goals and sofar none of this failed medical stuff has had implications. Just leaves RB for me.
pick32 Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Borini who is currently on loan at Swansea from Chelsea is allowing his contract to run out at the end of the season. 10 starts 6 goals is a good return for a 20year old in the championship.

I would bring defoe here in a heartbeat. Spurs will want mega money for him tho, and in reality i cant spurs selling him either.

Yea I just think if you add up: Age, Wages & transfer fee's we'd be better looking at somebody like Sturridge, Plus he's what, 5'7? we need a tall frontman we have people like formica/rochina for small strikers who can both take on defenders.

Our record with Chelsea youth players isn't exactly stellar...
47er Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Our record with Chelsea youth players isn't exactly stellar... Ian Pearce?
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted May 18, 2011 Moderation Lead Posted May 18, 2011 Ian Pearce? Franco Di Santo- the goal machine...... Though he did score against the dingles (granted it was in an empty net from point-blank range)
alexanders Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Wasnt able to find the Diouf thread so I'll put it here. Diouf hints at Gers stay Wouldnt be too sad to get rid of Dioufy. Has been a good servant to the club and will be knowned for his winding up of oppsite supporters. Unfortunately he lacks pace and technique and slows the play down.
sparkspakespoke Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Giving Andrews a new contract is something that I can't defend, but that's more of a black mark against Sam's name than against JW's. If the manager thinks he's worth it JW has to approve it, as long as it doesn't break the wage structure and he's not doing something stupid like giving a 35yo a 4 year contract. Actually its not. When Keith signed his new contract he stated in the interview that JW promised him a new deal when he signed for us if he played 20 games in the first team or more. No clause just a gentlemans agreement as Andrews signed for originally on wages which were low for a premiership player, understandably given he was make such a step up. So that one was all JW.
davulsukur Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 But sensible tho, Ince wanted to sign him, and JW didn't want to not back his new manager while at the same time handing out stupid contracts to lower standard players. To be fair to keef, he made a fair few apps that season, under Ince and Sam, also scored a couple. So by rights JW had to honor that agreement as the amount apps he made would have shown that he made the step up. (I am not saying the keef is any good mind you) Ince, JW and Sam should all get black marks against their names in reality.
chris Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Franco Di Santo- the goal machine...... Though he did score against the dingles (granted it was in an empty net from point-blank range) thats probably the best goal he has ever scored
