dave birch Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Losing Samba does not show a lack of ambition IMO. If Arsenal came in I would feel it very harsh to deny him the opportunity to pit himself against the best. He's done so much for us. I wouldn't want him held here against his will. I take your point about holding him against his will, but Bucky, He pits himself against the best almost every match. If you mean, in the CL, OK, but where would he be with L'Arse. We all know that there's a curse on players that leave for "pastures greener". Keep him, become part of a resurgent Rovers.

If an offer came in but we persuaded him to stay I would be very happy. But if we again reject an offer from Arsenal I can't see him taking it so well this time. It's not like Bellamy/Bentley who had only been here five minutes, he's been here a long time now. If he comes out and says he wants to stay, that would be brilliant.
Exiled_Rover Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Yup, common sense is Jermaine Jones at the top of that list along with a nice contract offer for Junior. Then I'd like to see an approach for one or two of the Spurs lads, they have a wealth of quality players on the fringes. Also wouldn't mind another one or two of these Barcelona kids! From the relegated sides I'd look at: West Ham (feels good to say that) Baaaaaa Parker (obviously we wouldn't get him) Birmingham (feels better to say that) None spring to mind although Gardner is a good player Blackpool Adam is the obvious one and about the only one I'd want DJ Campbell knows where the back of the net is and that Phillips lad has something about him.
martmitch Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Kean just mentioned on talksport the club want to sit down with JJ and RSC's clubs with a view to signing them permanently big yes to JJ, big fat NO to signing RSC
Backroom DE. Posted May 23, 2011 Backroom Posted May 23, 2011 What has RSC done to show he's worthy of a place in our squad? He's a crock who's had his purple patch with us. Any money spent on him is a massive waste.
RibbleValleyRover Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Kean just mentioned on talksport the club want to sit down with JJ and RSC's clubs with a view to signing them permanently big yes to JJ, big fat NO to signing RSC Just as I feared. I really don't see how anyone can justify bringing Roque back to the club next season, Kean also said Benjani might get a brand new deal as well earlier in the season... Roberts, Benjani, Roque... That's an awful strikeforce.
Stevo Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 So long as we don't sign RSC, I would not be opposed to offering a new deal to Benjani tbh. He and Roberts as 4th and 5th choice strikers (behind 2 new ones and Rochina, assuming Kalinic leaves) isn't THAT bad!
Uxbridge rover Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 sorry but I don't want to see an old boys reunion. For me the likes of Warnock RSC etc have had their time at our club and I think its time to move forward.
Torgeir Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 So long as we don't sign RSC, I would not be opposed to offering a new deal to Benjani tbh. He and Roberts as 4th and 5th choice strikers (behind 2 new ones and Rochina, assuming Kalinic leaves) isn't THAT bad! You're right about that, but I for one would rather have some young up-coming striker(s) as backup instead of someone reaching the twilight of his career.
vintageadidas Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 JJ, Robinson and Junior must be signed up. Samba will go and i don't blame him - £18m please. Givet will return to France. We require a towering defender and a "proper" left back. Two quality strikers - i would like Djibril Cisse and Vagner Love. We need to stregthen the bench too - DJ Campbell and Seb Larson are two very good options.
Iceman Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I think if we sign up Junior, I would like to see him in central midfield. Time we let Dunn go, as we can then let Hoilett and Formica play there. Sign up say Larsson or re sign Bentley, and we will be cooking. I don’t have a problem with Roque, as long as its on a pay as you play deal, or he takes a massive cut in his wages. Robinson Salgado P Jones NEW CB NEW LB J Jones Bentley/Larsson Hoilett Olsson Defoe RSC
joey_big_nose Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I just had a look at out complete squad, and it's extraordinary how many players I feel we have to get rid off. The following players offers nothing or very little to Rovers and should be let go at the first opportunity: Grella Andrews Santa Cruz Doran Goulon Benjani Brown Mame Diouf El-Hadji Diouf Consider that this list is very generous towards players like Linganzi, Roberts and Dunn, and that it's very likely that Kalinic will be sold as well. Have Rovers ever been so full of deadwood? It's not such a bad situation. EH Diouf should be easyish to move on after his Rangers efforts . Benjani, RSC (I do not believe there is any chance we will sign him) and M Diouf are at the end of their deals so straight off the wage bill. Doran, Goulon, Brown are all on very small money which makes little impact to us. The only real quandaries are Grella and Andrews. Andrews is on small money so not such a big deal. Also I think a Championship club would take a punt. Grella completely pisses me off - absolutely no chance of a sale and still injured - can't believe he has another year...... Grella is the only 'deadwood' of any real financial consequence. Emerton has had a real Indian summer the last four games. Pedersen and Dunn need to be improved on, and for me if there is a buyer Kalinic should go. I would love us to sign JJ and Hoilett in the next couple of weeks - that would provide a fantastic basis to move on from. We only really need strikers and maybe full backs. The squad is in best shape, strikers aside, it has been for years.

Robinson Salgado P Jones NEW CB NEW LB J Jones Bentley/Larsson Hoilett Olsson Defoe RSC Everything you said prior to making that team call is ignored now, simply because you think we can get away with 5 so attack minded players in the premier league. We would have NO midfield, not even JJ can do so many jobs.
davulsukur Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I think all this depends on how ambitous the owners are planning on being. We might find out more after kean flys out for some meetings with the owners. I guess they still want a marquee signing, so lets be prepared for some crazy names flying around. Hopefully we land one, and then people might not mock us so much.

Robinson Salgado P Jones NEW CB NEW LB J Jones Bentley/Larsson Hoilett Olsson Defoe RSC Why on earth would you drop Nzonzi? And why would you keep RSC?! Frankly if we walked out next season with the same starting XI as against Wolves, the only change being Roberts replacement by a first rate established target man, I would be very happy. We now look well balanced, hard working, well shaped and with real attacking quality.
Amo Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Sign Yakubu to replace Benjani. Sign Krancjar, which would also take the pressure off Formica. And of course, snap up Jones.

We now look well balanced, hard working, well shaped and with real attacking quality. I should have said that should we decide to go 2 up front, then that would be a good formation at home. Away from home, we could change to 4-5-1 with 2 destroyers in J Jones and Nzonzi. I still believe that we are too generous at times, especially against teams on our level at home, by adopting a defensive approach.
Backroom Tom Posted May 23, 2011 Backroom Posted May 23, 2011 Imagine if we do have £20m Chaddy would have a field day with Champ manager suggestions
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 We must keep hold of our better players, that must be the main aim as well as strengthening.Sell too many and we could be a weaker side come the new season's start...a very delicate balancing act this is going to be! By christ do we need a 20 goals a season striker too!
brfcjon Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 A really good signing would be Carlo Ancelotti! He wants to stay in England. That would be a marquee signing!
Mafioso Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 but I don't think any brum players could replace what we already have. I would seriously consider Ben Foster if Robbo were to leave. Also Jerome, Larsson and Gardner are a couple of names I would consider. Carlton Cole, Upson, Ba and Noble realistically from West Ham. Adam.
Amo Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 A really good signing would be Carlo Ancelotti! He wants to stay in England. That would be a marquee signing! Shocking of Chelsea to sack him. Roman throwing his toys out the pram again. No chance of him at Rovers, though.
Roversi Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Jermiane Jones is a must buy, if we cant get him, no need for a replacement as Phil Jones can slot in there and do as good a job. id like to see the young Ramm or Henley from the reserves learn thier trade at rb from salgado or just sign clyne from c.palace. Morris should be back up to givet rather than Olsson. i dont want to see a guy with Lowe's potentiel stubbed cus everytime ive seen him he has impressed me. id have dann to replace samba or jones if they left, Gardners goals have masked his actual performances apparently, Jerome is not prem standered. id have ba from west ham along with craig bellamy and Reo Coker get rid of benjani, diouf, doran, goulon, grella, andrews, as much as it pains me Kalinic,Blackman. GK: Robinson, Bunn, Kean. DF: Salgado, Samba, Nelsen, Givet, Jones, Hanley, Ramm, Morris, Henley, Clyne, Gunning. MID: Formica, Holiett, Olsson, Emerton, N'Zonzi, Reo Coker, Lowe, Dunn, Pedersen, JJ. ST: Rochina, Roberts, Bellamy, Ba. good looking squad if you ask me, full of freshness, ability, SPEED, youth, experience.
pick32 Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I agree with you about Lowe and Ramm but Henley is no were near premership standard, he is far too lightweight and hasn't realy impressed when i've seen him. Especialy the reserve final against Man U, Obertan gave him a torrid time and won every 50/50 with ease.
CrazyIvan Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 One player I would love to see at Rovers as an understudy/replacement to Emerton is Matt Phillips of Blackpool. http://news.ladbrokes.com/en-gb/football/premier-league/phillips-could-be-blackpools-secret-weapon-for-survival.html
