chris Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Jones has been brilliant his energy, passing and positioning are spot on. Giving away free kicks in dangerous areas is just a hazard that comes with playing as a DM, just like Pens as a goalkeeper. Yeah Batty against Liverpool 1995 Anfield 91 minute.

Hughesy Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Ps have we really lost nicko?? Massive shame... Anyone else hoping Nicko comes back? Nicko will be back soon, asked him the other day, basically as its not 'transfer time' he wasnt hanging around to hear the same old stuff.
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 JJ has looked a class above anything we have to offer in midfield this season - though that is not a particularly high bench mark! (in fairness Nzonzi had a good end to the sason). The only negative about JJ is his age - he'll be 30 this year and hasn't had the best injury record over the last few years. His game is based on speed and stamina and will surely decline in the next 3 years. Don't get me wrong - he would be a great signing (akin to Savage) but only for the right money (as he'll likely be one of the top earners). Anything around the £3-4 million bracket and we should buy but Grella syndrome makes me nervous. If Kean wants to sign Roque he needs his head testing. He'll hardly kick a ball and will drain wages. If available on a free transfer and pay as you play deal then fair enough I suppose. IMO we need to shift out Benjani Kalinic Pedersen Grella Andrews Givet (becoming more hassle than he's worth). Spit the Diouf Everytime we ship one out, we should look to bring in a decent prospect from the lower leagues (eg Clyne, Ashley Williams, kyle naughton) As I've said befoe it depends on the formation Kean is planning. Based on the current 4-4-2 I would go for JJ (see above) an experienced ball playing midfielder to go alongside him - Pirlo would be a dream signing. A right winger Nzogbia? Flummoxed as to a 20 goal striker though! Would take Warnock back if deal cheap enough. If we want an experienced striker to play with Hoilett - Trezeguet has had a good season scoring 12 goals for Hercules in La Liga (I know he went there because his wife lives over there but they've been relegated so he may well leave for one last challenge). Would surely be free (he'd be 34) and must be on decent wages at a club like Hercules. Certainly better than RSC, Roberts, Benjani. So for my 2 penneth Robbo Emerton - Samba- Jones - Warnock Nzogbia - JJ - Pirlo - Olsson - Hoilett Trezeguet Subs: J Kean, Ruchina, Formica, (a.n other strker), Nelsen, Salgado, Nzonzi. Good blend of youth and experience, pace and quality. If we get offered in the region of £30 million for Jones and Samba AND the money was to be added to the existing pot then both should leave. Always felt that CB is the easiest position to sort. As an aside I wouldn't touch any of West Ham's or Big club's players. No bottle or fight.
Blueboy Downunder Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 tyrone...you are wrong about morten and benjani. IMO From what we already have on our books and off the top of my head: Robinson Salgado Samba Jones Olsson J Jones Nzonzi Hoilett Formica Rocina Kalinic i think this formation gives us strength infront of our back 4 and with JJ still being utilised as that box to box player, we are still helped at both ends of the park. this back 4 is our best i reckon. the 3 attacking midifelders makes us more dangerous up front with all 3 of them having pace, skill and technical ability....add to this, that they can drop back to form that 5 man midfield when we are on the retreat and defending. off the bench: morten, roque, benjani, emerton, nelsen and two others. IMO
magicalmortensleftpeg Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Olsson isn't a left back and no one has seen Formica play. Kalinic can't cut it. Need one if not two strikers. J.Jones tied down. Hold onto the back 4. Get rid of Kalinic, Benjani, Grella, Diouf x2 and Andrews. We need one more out and out centre mid and a full back.

IMO I don't like Ollson at left back except in emergencies and Kalinic can't play the lone striker role. Unless the two others are Messi and Ronaldo your bench looks weak to me.
Backroom Tom Posted May 23, 2011 Backroom Posted May 23, 2011 Wonder who is being lined up for our marquee signing....? Pirlo is one they may try for, and wont get.
True Blue & White Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Doesn't the new Financial "Fair" Play rules kind of prevent Venky's giving us £20m anyway (that's if you believe they have it).
cn174 Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Doesn't the new Financial "Fair" Play rules kind of prevent Venky's giving us £20m anyway (that's if you believe they have it). As I understand it those rules are being brought in first for those playing in UEFA competitions, then for the rest of the clubs afterwards.
Torgeir Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Not sure if it's been mentioned but Luis Fabiano returned to Sao Paulo for €7.6 million in March. At 30 years old he would be perfect as our marquee signing but guess he was homesick.
Oklahoma Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Pirlo is one they may try for, and wont get. I think Pirlo is on his way to Juventus.
Torgeir Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 If we need a playmaker we could get Dzagoev - but that's our whole budget spent.
RoyRover Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 There is so much deadwood in the team that needs to be cleared out before we can start building a squad for the future. I would happily let Grella, Andrews, Brown, Dunn, Linganzi, Goulon, Benjani, Doran and El Hadji Diouf all leave. That would slash a huge amount off our wage bill and could generate a bit of money to go toward transfers or other costs. I would send Santa Cruz and Diouf back to their clubs. By getting rid of so many, we would need to be bringing in around five players to fill out the squad. The obvious transfer to me and others is getting Jermaine Jones here permanently because he's been very good since joining. I always liked him when he was at Schalke and was delighted when he signed for us. He played a key role in keeping us up and has been the type of central midfielder we've been crying out for. I would also be tempted to sign another centre midfielder to compete with Jones and N'Zonzi. A new left back would be a good bit of business too. Givet has done well out there for us, but is a centre back and should be challenging for that position. At least we know we have someone who can fill in there if needs be. Two new strikers would be our biggest priority. We have Kalinic, who I think we should keep and despite spending most of the time shouting at him for his awful touch and general play, having a big lump like Roberts has it's advantages and gives us a different option. We also have Rochina, who I don't see as being an out and out striker, but more like someone who can play off or behind a front man. By getting a prolific striker in, plus another one, we would have good options to chose from. I would like to see a team like this next year: Robinson Salgado, Samba/Givet/New centre back, P. Jones, New left back J.Jones, N'Zonzi Hoillet, Formica / Rochina, Olsson New Striker So for me our shopping list should be: - a left back - two midfielders - two strikers - maybe a new centre back if Samba is sold. This wouldn't be a priority though, as Givet and Nelsen would be able to slot right in. We also have young Hanley, who the club think a lot of and we seem to be more willing to give out young players more of a chance at the moment.
Hughesy Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Benjani > release on free contract Brown> release on free contract M Diouf> End loan deal Roque> End loan deal New contract for Hoilett Sign Jermaine Jones on a permanent Try to sell; Andrews, Grella & El Hadji Diouf Listen to offers for; Dunn, MGP, Kalinic & Roberts Look to sign 2 of – Demba Ba, Daniel Sturridge, Odemwingie, Defoe, Bellamy Possibly have to consider selling; Givet & Samba IF we sell them; replace with a natural left back (Not Warnock) and also sign a central defender Sign Seb Larsson on a free as back up to Hoilett on right Sign Niko Kranjcar
Backroom Tom Posted May 23, 2011 Backroom Posted May 23, 2011 If we did that Hughesy we would be left with 2 strikers. To me it makes sense to keep Benjani and Roberts as back up ideally, send RSC back and cash in on Niko and bring in 2 decent forwards. Krancjar would be amazing and Larsson would be decent enough.

It would leave us with the 2 new boys (both of which would know how to score goals) + Rochina and I mentioned to listen to offers for Roberts/ Kalinic, I wouldnt just sell, we would have to replace them with better, younger quality!
andyroversmad Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Kranjcar Jermaine Jones Demba Ba or Defoe Hoilett new contract
RevidgeBlue Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Why does everyone keep mentioning Demba Ba? On the few occasions I've seen him for West Ham he's looked pretty useless with all the heart and fighting qualities of Pascal Chimbonda to boot. I mentioned to listen to offers for Roberts/ Kalinic, I wouldnt just sell, we would have to replace them with better, younger quality! You forgot to mention "get rid of deadwood"! Easy game!
deryck guyler's spoon Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Why does everyone keep mentioning Demba Ba? On the few occasions I've seen him for West Ham he's looked pretty useless with all the heart and fighting qualities of Pascal Chimbonda to boot. I havn't seen that much of him but have seen his name on the scoresheet. I know being a nice chap takes second place to ability but Ba's role in the recent West Ham kerfuffle would seem to mark him out as perhaps not being the sort you would want around the club.
RoyRover Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 I know being a nice chap takes second place to ability but Ba's role in the recent West Ham kerfuffle would seem to mark him out as perhaps not being the sort you would want around the club. His behaviour a few years ago when he tried to leave Hoffenheim wasn't great, but he stayed and seemed to have patched things up. However the way he left them in January left them very bitter considering how he behaved again, to the point where they said enough's enough. He scored seven goals for West Ham and was a regular goal scorer in the Bundesliga which is good enough for me. He's got power and pace, but he obviously has a lot of baggage which would need to be considered.
ewoodnews Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 agree with most post but two risky signings that i think could come good for a few years are 1-Owen Hargreves 2-Michael Owen ok these are both injury prone but owen has shown nearly everytime he has come on for utd that he still has the finishing ability and that he would be a reasonable risk for a year or two Hargreves however has abit more risk involved as he hasnt playe much for three years but a massie signing at the time for utd does not just urn into a bad player after an injury or two i would only sign these two players as cover/edge of first time and it would be dependant on getting rid of certain dead would. but i really do think they are a risk if they are both given free transfer.
evukovic Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 I really don't understand why everyone wants to bring ex-players like Bellamy, Warnock and Bentley back. They were good for us FOUR YEARS AGO. Look how the RSC experiment worked. Times have changed people. We escaped this season but if we go out and sign the likes of these players, we won't be so lucky next season.
Steve Moss Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Benjani > release on free contract Brown> release on free contract M Diouf> End loan deal Roque> End loan deal New contract for Hoilett Sign Jermaine Jones on a permanent Try to sell; Andrews, Grella & El Hadji Diouf Listen to offers for; Dunn, MGP, Kalinic & Roberts Look to sign 2 of – Demba Ba, Daniel Sturridge, Odemwingie, Defoe, Bellamy Possibly have to consider selling; Givet & Samba IF we sell them; replace with a natural left back (Not Warnock) and also sign a central defender Sign Seb Larsson on a free as back up to Hoilett on right Sign Niko Kranjcar Good plan. You should write Kean a letter.
Iceman Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Luca Toni! sorry, I just had to type that. ill get my coat left back: I know many top clubs might want him, but if money is not a problem, then Taye Taiwo. if Samba leaves, then why don't we try going for Danns or Roger Johnson, or making a sneaky bid for Gary Cahill.
XLM Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 I may get slated, but Nicklas Bendtner. Say what you like about him, but he's a fantastic talent who is being squeezed out of a big club. His contract is up next summer (unless he signed an extension) and I can't see a side with better finances or that are a more attractive proposal wanting to come in for him, with the possible exception of Spurs, but I can't see that happening personally. So if he's wanting to stay in England and play first team football (which he publicly stated a month or so ago) we could have a very decent chance of what would be a very big signing in my opinion. Signing a 23 year old first team player from Arsenal because of his contract running out would be a massive sign of intent if nothing else.
