ultrablue Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 If we sign DJ Campbell and expect him to be our main striker then we might as well throw in the towel now. No one said that did they? For the money mentioned it would be wroth having coming off the bench and pushing for the odd start now and again

Tim Southampton Rover Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 What I am saying is that we've got Kalinic, Rochina, Roberts......how many more back up strikers do we need. Let's not waste the money on another squad player and let's invest on a player who can score goals and be our number 1 striker.

Well I think we can expect that we will listen to any offers for Kalinic this summer. Kean dropped a hint after the Wolves game that he has settled on a style for the team and it appears to have a classic "big man, little man" combo up top. I just can't see how Kalinic fills either role. You are right - the big money should be, and hopefully will be spent on the target man to lead the line. DJ Campbell and Roberts as a back up to that new signing and Junior, with Rochina being brought in gradually and getting a few cup games- sounds good to me.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 We'll probably sign Heskey I'm laughing to hide the tears.
RoyRover Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Some of the names being thrown out on here are just rediculous and embarrasing. Personally i think Micheal Owen would be perfect, he seems well over his injury problems and definately worth taking a risk on as he could bag 10-20 goals if he does stay fit... Where's the risk if he on a free? "Marquee" Signing for Venky's and a goalscorer for the team and fans. I hear he will only be offered a pay as you play at United so... Some other names: Bellamy (Loan? Free?) Bentley (No more than 3 mill) Bassong (On the cheap IF Samba goes) Jo (Was signed for 19 mill, cheeky 3 mill bid?) Joe Cole (Free, cheap?) Armand Traore (From Arsenal, was on loan at Juve last season.. 1.5 mill?) Rosicky (Bit part player at Arsenal now) Podolski (Only at Koln, the big move ain't coming... If we have the funds) Micheal Ciani (Bordeaux, French int, He's a beast. 5 mill?). I would take a few of the players on that list. I've always been a fan of Armand Traore and would certainly be a long term solution to our left back problem. I've saw Ciani play a few times for Lorient before he moved to Bordeaux and was always impressed by his physicality. He would be a decent option if Samba were to leave. Lukas Podolski and Tomas Rosicky would bring some real class to the team, but I doubt either would come to us. Apparently Jose Bosingwa is to be let go by Chelsea. He would be another long term player at right back. Would he be realistic target or would he just end up playing for someone like Roma or Fenerbache?
Iceman Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 I'm just going to keep on, until it somehow miraculously happens. Defoe and Vagner Love,
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 I know that Charlie Adam is likely to move to a big club now but surely chucking a bid in to test the water is worth doing. Get in quickly and you never know. Would be ideal for the midfield - can sit in the middle and spray the ball aorund as well as contribute some quality set pieces.

I would rather go for David Vaughan instead. similar player to adam and alot of Blackpool fans say he has been just as good as adam. sign him up Kean!
Stockport rover Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Anyone else got a horrible feeling that we might make a move for Owen? Dont think it would be too bad, nice finisher but I agree about the service point, for free I think he'd be a useful backup player!
des Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 I think that areas that we need to buy is midfield and attack. its better to buy two vwey good player them 3-4 average ones, so whoever we buy spend the money well.....it does not grow on trees.........but it is chicken feed.....
rickard Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 How about Kim Källström from Lyon. Rumour has it that he is leaving Lyon for Fenerbache in Turkey. He would fit perfectly in our team. I have no idea what kind of salary level he is on or how much Lyon would want for him though...
ABBEY Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 He's 29, he's had 1 good season in the top flight and now people expect him to be a top Premier League player? Come on! how many seasons has adam played in the prem?
Brfcrule1 Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 I can't believe some people are considering Barton the guy is a thug first and foremost & the only place that guy should be is in a lunatic asylum and after that unprovoked attack on MGP he has no place on a footy pitch agreed the guy has talent & the guy would probably pick fights with Samba,Nelsen etc & as has been already stated there are better out there I would be very happy if we went for someone Like Mark Noble from WHU would be cheap enough & decent enough or even someone like Kranjcar would be a great signing also what about Ibricic Niko's team mate at Hadjcuk split anyone know where he vanished to thought we were meant to be getting him last year?.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 how many seasons has adam played in the prem? DJ Campbell played in the Premier League before and wasn't very good. He played in League 1 and struggled. His career picked up at Blackpool and played very well in the Premier League. Is he a player who could improve our squad? Yes Is he a player who could hold down a regular place in the first team and push us to the next level? I don't believe he is. Charlie Adam was a good prospect at Rangers but they played him on the wing and his lack of pace didn't help him when it came to earning a place in the first team. He moved to Blackpool and has been regularly putting in top performances and we saw this season that he's stepped up to the Premier League and did really well. Is he a player who could improve our squad? Yes Is he a player who could hold down a regular place in the first team and push us to the next level? He probably could. If we want to push for a top 10 place next season then we need to sign players who would walk into our first XI, not add to the numbers who can play one week and sit on the bench the next.
Fylde Coast Fan Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 I'd have DJ Campbell for £1m as a Benjani replacement. 13 goals in the Prem is better than any of our current team did this season, after all. Not sure how he'd do playing off Hoilett but we can't expect Hoilett to play every game.
Hughesy Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 The way we need to look at things IF we have money is simple....Who is good enough to turn us into a top 8 team....that isnt DJ Campbell
Fraserkirky Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Obviously we don't need to go through Stoke's medical team but I suppose you knew that any way. Why on earth some on here would want us gambling 6-8 million pounds on a player who has recently failed a medical when our current squad has plenty players who never play is beyond me. Knee problems can be extremely difficult to cater for due to all the variables in the knee joint ala Kieron Dyer (another crock who West Ham desperately signed). I guess we would have to trust our medical team, because Ba can score goals in this league and has all the attributes for a target man.
Billy Castell Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Anyone else heard that Robinho is the superstar target? I was told that today. Not sure I'd like him to come, he's an arrogant prat who plays when hefeels like it.
SergioPeter89 Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 I remember last window someone posted a list of players that we had scouted during Big Sams regime.. Does anyone know which players we have scouted under Steve Kean?

Not sure I'd like him to come, he's an arrogant prat who plays when hefeels like it. I know I wouldn't like him to come. It's not a big ego we need but a good solid hardworking goalscorer who can get into double figures but also doesn't mind getting stuck in and doesn't sulk if things don't go his way or disrupt the team. Who that is I don't know but hopefully someone else does and we can find him.

Torgeir Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Is your information usually reliable Billy? Robinho is better than what we have, and has had a decent enough season for AC Milan. I would welcome him with open arms, while you'd rather stick with Roberts, Benjani and Kalinic? You must be out of your minds

Not sure why Milan would want to sell him, its not like he's not playing or scoring goals. Still only 27, if Venkys want a marquee signing this would be your guy.
