It was always going to happen, Steve Kean directly replaced SA as manager, results since then have made it easy to compare the two in favour of Allardyce. Just out of interest Jisty, who would you have preferred to see as a replacement for Sam, and were you pleased when he was sacked?

Interesting point, bad results under Kean automatically mean Sam was the best out of the two. If the team had gone on a decent run, winning games and playing better - the debate would take a different turn. But football is a result based business. So natural Kean gets it in the neck.

Management is learnt by experience, Sam has the experience. Kean is just starting out in management so does not have Sam's experience. Don't think Sam had the best of records when he first started out in management - but this improved after he gained experience.

We are on a shocking run at the moment. There is only one person to blame for that and that is Kean the Clown.

Just to make sure everyone understand how good Kean the Football Genius is out of a possible 54 points we have picked up 17

I've stated my position several times on this but I think I should start by qualifying it again.

Sam Allardyce is a damn good football manager - and was (probably still is, given the disappointment following the initial hope that Venky's would be more generous with funding than Venkys) perfectly suited to us when we needed to stay in the League following the "P*** I*** project" failure. He was also fantastic at turning our squad into winners (at home) and as such he had my support.

However, that's not to say that I wasn't bored as hell during some matches, sometimes wondering what I was watching and I did have gripes about his approach - particularly when the opposition was "there for the taking" and we didn't take advantage. That said, all of that was quickly forgotten walking up Bolton Road following a victory against a Tottenham or Arsenal - or most teams to be fair, such was Sam's imperious record at Ewood (surely the best since King Kenny?). Fickle, of me I know. It even made the dire away performances easier to stomach becasue we compensated for it at Ewood - where the vast majority of fans watch Rovers. This also means that there was little grumbling from the masses.

All this said, I honestly think that 10th last season flattered us and was probably the worst thing to happen. (Although I imagine the prize money was worth having). It effectively game people the belief that we really weren't that far away from getting back to being a top 6 team again. When the facts where that our team had been decimated for years prior to being sold and things were not at all as rosey as some would make out.

Sam himself projected, in my opinion, an imagine of arrogance and self-absorbed. Which in itself wasn't a problem. I want my manager to be confident and assured and instill that same belief in the team. BUT. At Sam was self-promoting to the exclusion of Rovers. "When I were at Bolton"; "I can attract big players", "I'm too good for this level and should be managing Real Madrid"; or the worst of all "Yes, of course Rovers bought the league". (Okay the last 2 may well have been tongue-in-cheek but he really didn't help his image with those he could have won over.

But then again, given the paltry money we gave him to spend to go and fashion his silk purse, I don't really blame him.

Again, if I'm honest, I was... initially worried - particularly about the timing mid-season, but eventually hopeful, optimistic even, although still nervous... when Sam was ousted. I would not say I was glad. But I had totally envisaged bringing in a proven manager and him being given money to spend in the January window to strengthen our poor squad.

I really did not know who we should bring in. I assumed someone was lined up. (I suppose someone was). But more likely a top foreign coach (in my dreams) e.g. Hitzfelt or Rijkaard or perhaps a proven PL man e.g. Moyes or Jol. There really didn't seem much point in removing Sam to replace him with a Curbishley or Megson or someone of that ilk.

However we quickly became a laughing stock looking at Maradonna and Ronaldinho (allegedly) and the rest is history. Let's just hope it's not another era before we recover.

Pick the bones out of that. I've pretty much typed that straight without checking what I've written so if it is nonsense or contradictory then that's the way it is.

See this is the kind of repetition that Abby was talking about repeated over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over. Can I ask; Don't you think Steve Kean is doing a good job?

, I think the reason it is repetitive is that some people on here defend the clown, how on earth can they do that given the results, performances and lack of tactical nous?

Its also repetitive because we have the frustration of seeing him along with the Chickens in Pune, ruining our football club!

Otto, think of it like to some of us, every time someone defends Steve Kean it's the equivalent pain and anger of seeing a cute innocent puppy being painfully and unfairly exterminated. If it happened twice, you wouldn't stop being upset about it because you spoke out about it the first time.

Can the same be said for those defending Steve Kean? Do they get that same pain and anger when they hear him being slated?

(disclaimer, above post is exaggerated and tongue in cheek)

I absolutley understand where you are coming from. My point is that there is nothing new being said. Just the same thing, regurgitated time after time, post after post. I appreciate that people want to get their point across and also vent some anger at the same time and I also realise that it's done out of love for our club, but even so, it don't half get boring!

I've just suddenly got a weird feeling that Kean will come good. He'll keep us up, stay on as manager, make some good signings in the summer and go on to give us an 8th place finish next season.

You heard it here first. :tu:

I think you have included an FA cup win in that, in which case it's fewer points-I', sure we've only had 3 league wins with him.

I had this yesterday - you didn't happen to eat a dodgy curry last night as well did you?

For some obscure reason I'm 110% we'll stay up - life is so much easier.

A league position is attained over 38 games. There is no such thing as a "lucky" league position. Maybe a "lucky" cup run, but we only missed out on 9th placed Birmingham by goal difference. We were as close to a relegation position pointswise as we were to a Champions' League place.

This season Sam got 21 points from 16 games; if he continued the next 16 games in this vein (which he arguably wouldve, Sam has been consistent throughout his career and given £5 million in January we might have even picked things up) we would be 9th right now, 1 point off 8th placed Bolton and 2 points off Everton in 7th place.

Last season's 10th place was an accurate picture of how far Sam had taken us as a football team.

I really did not know who we should bring in. I assumed someone was lined up. (I suppose someone was). You honestly thought a top foreign coach was lined up? A lot of us could see just how unlikely this was. This isn't 1996 anymore.

yep we have. 2 wins against wba and 1 against liverpool. kean's record is just not good enough!!! simple as!

As a matter of interest do you know what Sam's record was when he first came into management. I do not mean with Rovers, but management as a whole. I am a person who believes you often learn a job by makining mistakes, learning by them and therefore gaining experience in the job. Sadly because of the financial pressure of football, time is NOT on a persons side to gain the experience. If Rovers were owned by a mega rich company or person and could afford relegation etc etc then I would be happy to stick with Kean to see how he learns and gains the experience.

But sadly that is not the situation and releagation could be extremely dangerous for the survival of rovers as a club. Venky's have therefore taken a huge risk. Hope it comes off and rovers survive in the prem, but !!!!

Don't forget most managers work their way up from managing smaller clubs. They make their mistakes there.

Sam Allardyce for example.

He started off his career with successful stints at Limerick, Preston and Blackpool.
