  1. 1. Should Steve Kean stay or go

Recommended Posts

To be honest I don't really see the point of sacking him at this stage. We've got 5 very tough games left against Man City (H), Bolton (H), West Ham (A), Man U (H) and Wolves (A). Its too late to expect someone to come in and get some good results now, if we did sack Kean then picking up 4-5 more points is about all could expect from a new manager and I still think Kean's just about capable of that anyway. He should have gone after Blackpool and if Venkys had a brain cell between them he would have, I think now we have no choice but to try and stick together and soldier on. Personally I was never expecting anything from Everton away, the absolutely crucial game is Bolton at home. Win that and pick up a draw or 2 elsewhere and we should be safe.

I've seen nothing to give me hope of beating Bolton. The only way we are staying up is if the teams around us don't win. We won't get out of this ourselves.

That is one of the most depressing things I've ever written!

Voted to Sack but its more than likely too late at this stage.

Im hoping we can squeeze a couple of points out of the last few games, enough to save us but the guy has got to go at the nd of the season

I think we will really know the fate of our club at the end of the season by judging how Venkys deal with the situation,

Im hoping Kean is gone in May, a capable chairman is put in place who immediately begins an extensive search for a new management team. Overhaul the whole club & keeping our promising young players & building around them. Taking the long term approach

However, I fear i already know that this will not be the case as Venkys have not shown any signs of this so far

Who would you have liked?

Anyone with a decent knowledge of the Premeirship, an emphasis on defensive organisation, a winning record and is connected with the club.

Really with five games to go only Tony Parkes or Sam Allardyce seem the only 'available' sensible options. It's a bit late in the game for someone totally new to come in.

I suppose you could take a punt on Souness, but he is a divisive figure and it is very hard to predict what sort of impact he would make. He made some very strange decisions towards the end of his career.

Mark Hughes would be utterly ideal but he's not coming north is he?

Difficult to be worse than the present incumbent. He's taken 17 points (I think) out of a possible 48 since he took over. Results are not improving and he shows no signs of learning or improving - a proper management would have dumped him by now.

Many so-called "supporters" got their wish when Sam was sacked - they're all looking very foolish now.

Jim, all because some people didn't like Big Sam doesn't mean you have to express wrongful internet superiority by calling people "so-called supporters". Everyone who wanted Sam out loves the club, wants the best for the club, and just wanted to see some decent football for once because it was dire football. The positive of his management was the results (well, in comparison to Kean) and we all know it's a results game.

People who wanted Sam out simply didn't like his style of management and he wasn't that great - the football was poor and the 7-1 drumming at United was one of the low points of my Rovers visits, if not the lowest point. His post-match interviews were almost as infuriating as Kean's, his substitutions were almost as bad and his constant ramblings about being future England boss pi$$ed everyone off.

Everyone knew it was the wrong time to sack Sam, and everyone knows the wrong replacement followed. Everyone can see it is worse now but that doesn't mean you should rub it in because you worshipped Big Sam.

It wasn't obnoxious and egotistical at all. When people have their concerns about a person who has been brought in to manage a club, they have every right to voice their opinions. Especially when it turns out that their feelings are well justified.

You mean members who made it their mission from day one to disparage the new manager, regardless of results? Even when we did win convincingly there were still people who would rather bitch about the manager than simply enjoy three points.

It is very odd to me that you were willing to give Paul Ince and Steve Kean a chance, when neither of them should have been anywhere near the post

Because, like it or not, they were the guys put in charge. What's objectionable about allowing someone to prove themselves? I didn't think Ince or Kean had much of a chance, but it's better to reserve judgement than to bitch from start to finish.

yet when we have one of the most experienced PL managers at the helm, you bombard him with criticism because of his style of play.

Shows how much you know.

It is my belief that any reasonable fan would realise the dangers of imbecilic decisions such as the one made in December, however that hasn't sunk in yet has it :angry2:

Which I did, so why do you keep on? Do you like the sound of your own voice?

A new manager and the bounce it could bring could pick up points that secure our survival. Look at Woy at West Brom they looked doomed he comes in the players respond and they look safe. Curbishley led West Ham to seven wins out of their last nine games, beating Rovers, Everton, Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic, Arsenal, Middlesbrough and a 1–0 win at Manchester Unted on the last day of the season to keep West Ham in the Premier League. Look throughout history there have been countless other examples of a new manager coming in and the players responding enough to change the club's fortunes.

Venky's can change this situation we are in.

Unlike you who has hardly made a post for months which hasn't involved slagging the owners off.

And why not. Inside 6 months, they have destroyed our club and over 100 years of history, tradition and glory.

Is there one good thing they have done ?

Sadly, I think BPF is spot on and we are spiralling downwards and into the abyss. IMO, we could be the next Pompey, Leeds etc.

No one is perfect but, FFS, the trust and JW kept us punching above our weight for years and with Sam at the helm, it's almost certain that that would have continued. Progress was being made, not velocity regression.

Anyone not "seeing the point" in sacking him at this late stage needs to pull their head from the sand! All this out of the frying pan @#/? is just that, @#/?. As things stand, we're lying in a hospital bed with 3rd degree burns on 90% of our body with Kean about to pull the plug on the life support machine at any second!!!

I would take ANYONE at this stage. :angry2:

Trouble is, we've been saying that for the last few matches including Brum & Pool at home.

True and they both love the club. Sam's affection for Rovers is neither widely known nor appreciated. Yes, his pride took a huge knock but he really loved Rovers.

Just in case people take what I said as me wanting Sam out and being happy when he was sacked, that was not the case. End of the season dependent on how things went we should have possibly sought a new manager. I agree the well being of the club should have been put first, in response to what Mattyblue just said.

what do you care ? you said your not going again.

What do I care ?

I haven't a clue how old you are but I've followed the Rovers home, away (including Europe) for well nigh 50 years. That's possibly before you were even born.

I am so passionate about the club, the one that existed pre Venkys.

Like many others, I find it extremely difficult to stomach what is now going on and IMO, Kean is an absolute clown and if money is the issue with Venkys, as indicated by BPF, then if Kean had any common decency or passion for the club, he would voluntarily stand aside.

Thats my feelins on the subject also.

Add me to that list as well. I just don't understand why people think it would be futile to sack him now- it's impossible for us to get any worse.

It won't happen, for no other reason than he was a Venkys appointment, and I don't think they do apologies or admit they were wrong.

I'm going to make a Big banner for the city game, not berating him not having a go, just something along the lines of:

'Steve kean if you want any respect from these fans, if you want to do good for this once proud football club, Then PLEASE resign.'
