Looking at Kean again today, he looks conpletely lacking belief on the touchline, does not confident at all.

maybe cos he knows that he WON'T BE manager next season! maybe that why the owners came over for to tell him, that next season a new manager will be coming in the summer

When was the last time that a complete novice at management went straight into a Premier League job and did well at their first job? Certainly nobody I can think of in the last ten years. Southgate took Boro down after they had been over a decade in the top flight, Strachan took Coventry down, Les Reed at Charlton, Chris Hutchings at Bradford, Chris Coleman at Fulham almost did before he was sacked...

It just doesn't happen. Kean might one day be a good manager. However, he shouldn't be doing his apprenticeship at Rovers. Look all those others he will, sooner or later, take us down.

Kean needs to do his time at a lower league club like everybody else.

Kean might one day be a good manager.

If we keep applying the rules from your comparisons above...none of them currently have a job in management!

You could add Sammy Lee at Bolton, Stuart Gray at Southampton and our beloved Brian Kidd to the list as well.

your 100% right he should have had to earn his position.

although I think it happens in Europe a lot.

Guardiola got the best job in the world from managing the reserves.

I thought everyone looked lost in the second half.

I don't see how we could have turned it around, we didn't have a good bench for this match.

Ok so don't change the players just alter the formation. Failing that put the players on the bench that are actually worth picking (Kalinic).

Kean has no excuses for making poor subs which cost us games. The only positive was he left Benjani on the bench.

People make me laugh, I know Kean doesn't appear to be a great manager by any means but people are just so biased against him that even when he gets something right people slag him off. People complained about Roberts starting, he scored today but we won't talk about that. He took the decision to play Emerton at right-back, he set-up the goal let's not talk about that. Nor the fact that the starting eleven on the pitch did a pretty effective job for the majority of the match considering we had a few injuries to contend with. Again the subs in hindsight didn't work but bringing on another defensive midfield to try and defend the game out isn't unheard of. Big Sam use to do this all the time when we held a narrow lead, he also use to play Keith Andrews (shock horror).

People forget the fact that Holiett was coming back from injury and just took a hefty knock before he was subbed. Roberts worked hard but wasn't getting into the game at all during the second half. No suprise to me that these two players where subbed. Andrews was the only defensive midfield option on the bench and Santa Cruz was brought on to try and hold the ball although maybe the pace of Kalinic or power of Benjani would have been a better option.

Holliet might have been a little forced he looked a bit tired, been injured.

With Jones and Nelsen, Grella, Salgado injured (all defensive), thats the best bench we could have had (mainly offensive).

Kalinic is shooting in empty nets, he must be shocking in training.

Hopefully the day will come where we don't need to turn to Andrews on the bench, he just has a negative vibe no matter how he plays.

Benjani might have been better then RSC though.

Nobody is 'biased' against Kean, his unpopularity is down to his crap record.

I was delighted that Emerton was at right back, his best position. Fair play to Roberts, he'd obviously been watching his BBC coaching video on the way down.

However, his subs were poor and from 65 or so mins we sat deeper and deeper and almost lost the game- that is down to Kean.

Especially as they had gone 3 - 4 - 3 and taken off their right full back, we should have been knocking balls wide and stretching their defence, closing down, Santa Cruz didnt close anything down, surely they should have been basic instructions!!

Any side you play against with three at the back, you get the wide players to hug the touchlines, this stretches the back three and creates space in the box for your front players!

Emerton is more effective going forward when he is right back then when he is right midfield and totally disapears.

So who would you have brought on for a tired Hoilett and Roberts?

Just watched the goal on football first, the players involved in the goal all ran to Kean to celebrate, speaks volumes.

Whilst a few on here are against the manager, and I'd include myself in that, clearly the players like the guy and understand whats he trying to do.

Considering he's given quite a few of them lovely new contracts I'm sure he's a very popular man indeed :P

David O'Leary at Leeds? Okay, it ended in tears eventually but he did well for the first season and a half.

After that I'm struggling. Bryan Robson at a stretch. Then, depending on your definition of success, Tony Parkes, somewhat ironically.

Btw, in checking out the O'Leary "success" in notice this..

Al-Ahli

O'Leary returned to management on 4 July 2010 with United Arab Emirates club Al-Ahli Dubai, where his first decision was to install former Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro as new skipper of the team. On April 2, 2011 Former Leeds United and Aston Villa manager would be relieved of his duties imminently according to board member folowing 5-1 defeat at the hands of Al Jazira[5][6]. On 22 April 2011, Al-Ahli officially announced its decision to sack O'Leary with his assistant coach Roy Aitken.[7] The club are in talks with once Blackpool, Bolton, Newcastle and Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce.

I would have brought on Rochina or Formica in Hoilett's place in the hope of a creative spark and told JJ and Zonzi to stay well back to aid the defence, while releasing Olsson up the left. I would have brought Kalinic (or even Benjani, cos he's similar to Roberts) in place of Roberts, so that the striker would still be piling pressure on their defence.

That would leave Bert and Givet at full back with Samba at CB and JJ and Zonzi integrating with the defence while remaining a little ahead of the back 3 (though effectively creating a back 5, with 2 players having very good simple distribution skills (JJ occasionally breaking forward). Olsson would be free to run up the left wing while Diouf does the same on the right wing. Formica/Rochina and Pedersen would then have free reign to dictate passing play to either wing or to Kalinic up front.

You may argue the point about Niko, but leaving him out the 16 is a disgrace and he's the only striker we have that can trap the ball and hold it up (albeit without much balance, but that's what Olsson and Diouf would help out with - provide him a release to pass to).

That sound alright? Admittedly I had 4/5hrs to think of that, while Kean had under 30mins (and less so because of hoilett being tired).

I may be wrong but wasn't Chris Hughton;s first proper managerial job with Newcastle? And he was doing very well imo, until he was inexplicably sacked.

Roverite, have you seen Formica play?

And have you seen Rochina play?

worse player in the world to have on when under pressure.

I'm sure he'll do well but he's dangerous to his own team.

Hanley on for Hoilett, Givet moving to left back with Olsson ahead of him, or playing three CBs with Olsson and Emerton bombing full/wing backs. Andrews has been out injured and not played much for a long time therefore he should not have been an option, oh and he's bloody awful!

That surely would have made sense with West Ham pushing further and further forward?

Roberts will run all day, Santa Cruz can't run, Benjani would have been a better option especially considering Kean offered him the incentive if a new deal two days ago.

Yes I have but what's that got to do with my question? I'm curious to know if anyone has seen Formica play if there are calls for him to be involved in a first team game.

I was going for the 'like for like' argument. I actually have never seen Formica and only seen Rochina make his Ewood cameo. I was just suggesting another way to go about it. Assuming all I've heard and seen is correct (and I maybe knew what Kean does re: training etc) that's as strategy I'd have liked to see him try.

Didn't mean it to sound 'know-it-all' if that's how it came across.
