  1. 1. Should Steve Kean stay or go

Recommended Posts

As for justification of the Kean role, the owners will view the Kean appointment as being a success, if they ever viewed us as being relegation candidates like the vast majority did on here.

So it stands to reason that avoiding relegation, which I think we will, obviously will justify the appointment of Mr Steve Kean.

Hope that's clear.

Are you serious or are you just being controversial for the sake of it ?

Just a mere 2 points further from the drop zone....albeit with half a season left

21 points from 17 games, was it not?

So what you've just there is essentially worthless.

The point I was trying to make was at that point we were in no danger at all.

Although I'm starting to think you are on a wind-up.

He certainly is!

At the start of every season, our aim is to stay in this league. Under the Walkers, not only did we have to stay in this league, but had to finish in a decent position to keep us financially afloat. Agreed?

If we stay up this season, then our aim has been achieved and the decision to have Kean in charge after the sacking of Allardyce will have been justified. Key difference this time round is that we can afford to finish 17th without going bust. No way am I saying that is good enough for our club. However, after the change in ownership, change in management, I'll be more than happy to stay in this league, regardless of our position.

8th is never good enough for a European spot. Intertoto Cup has gone. This season only 5th position gets into Europe, not 6th. Keep up.

So are you happy to go through this farce all over again season?

I feel embarassed to support the same club as you.

In response to Cruz:

21 points from 17 games is 42 points from 34 games and about 50 points over a whole season.

If we were now sat in 8th on 50 points, it's fair to say that we wouldn't be having such a debate about the competence of our manager...

Just to clear things up TGM, what are your aims at the start of the season?

Survival?

European Football?

Champions?

Silverware?

Mine would be survival, and then a slim chance of Europe/ Silverware. You appear to be under the impression that there is no difference between 6th and 17th in the PL.

What would you do at the end of this season if you were Venkys? (Question would probably be more approporiate if I had said Jerome Anderson, all of the decisions are his)

Our aim is always to survive. But you can apsire for more, top half and a cup semi final was an excellent return last season.

So if we survive, then we will have achieved our aim.

At the end of the season, I would get rid of Steve Kean and replace him with a better manager. My preferred choice would be Rafael Benitez. Then spending money on a few quality strikers, improving areas of our squad which I will not go into in this thread, and then aiming for some sort of silverware (i.e League Cup/FA Cup) as well as aiming for a European spot.

Other than financial reasons, realistically, there is no difference between 6th and 17th. Someone mentioned earlier that players will not want to sign for a club that is fighting for relegation, nonsense. Show them the money and they'll all come running. It's just the way football is now.

I think when we aim for survival we mean "with comfort"! Currently we are not safe with 2 games to go. Doubt that was part of the plan.

Was our aim to end up in a relegation scrap, when Steve Kean took over though? How can you class it as a successful appointment when we have slid from 10th in the league down to 17th in the space of 3 months, and not won a game home or away for 11 matches?

Tough luck with your new manager aspirations. Steve Kean is staying and were stuck with him. Best hope he learns how to manage a football club very quickly, otherwise next season might not be quite as successful as this one has been

So does pride not come into it? Your happy to have a ###### manager and survive by the skin of our teeth rather than have a manager who was taking us forward and could (with some financial backing) easily have us pushing for europe.

No that was you before your ban I seem to recall :D

Anyway most people now seem to agree, that survival was the main aim for this season, and that now looks like happening, if a little to close for comfort.

not quite that simple.

last season we finished 10 and had a good cup run. Im sure the owners/managers/players, take that into consideration, when evaluating the next seasonand setting their goals. Dont you.?

staying in pl is always crucial, but its also the absolute lowest, we can set the bar, when it comes to our success.

You seem a bit forgetful at the moment so I've filled in a few blanks for you.

Based on last season's tenth place finish, my aim would have been top half, settling for mid-table if that didn't happen. We've failed miserably on both.

You are wrong there, of course money is a consideration but good players are effectively courted by a few clubs and if you are telling me they would choose a struggling club over a team with higher profiles, I dont think so.

Of course it could be different if we had a top manager who is respected and capable of attracting players, we havent, we have Kean and the Circus orchestrated by Anderson and Venkys!

You can attract players but not the right ones.

The aim for me would be to survive comfortably. Followed by a decent cup run and finishing as high as possible.

even with the lack of investment by the trust etc.. ?? for me a fall was always on the cards due to lack of investment. MOST other teams have strengthened year on year.. we havent.

the january window we brought in jones on loan, (been a fantastic signing) 2 players for the future and gambled on an ex hero.

many will question kean on this.. but im not sure who else we couldve got in jan.

Well O'Hara for one who has been gaining MOM displays for Wolves, indeed, turned their season round a bit, Sturridge at Bolton is another, scoring for fun and a real danger up front with pace and power, both out on loan.

What was your aim when Kean took over LeChuck?

My aim in all honesty was to get rid of him as quickly as possible.

Kean did well in the transfer window zac, people quickly forget who was available and who the other teams around us brought in. Has any rival relegation candidate brought anyone in, that’s had more of an impact that Jermaine Jones? I’m not sure they have.

You look back and think who people wanted:

David Bentley – Flop

RSC – Flop

Robbie Kean – Flop

Eidur gudjohnsen? – Flop

Beattie – Flop

And many more, so on that score Kean did well to bring in an impact player, but he'll get no credit for it from most.
