  1. 1. Should Steve Kean stay or go

Also won the Champions League in his first season don't forget.

Like I said, Liverpool scored more goals than Manchester United when they finished behind the Champions. How on earth can you call that negative?

You don't win the league playing boring football, he managed that twice with Valencia.

ive answered the man united win (the shackles came off.. do or die... had to attack)

didnt see much of valencia, ive answered that.

stop reminding me of milan losing in the european cup! it still depresses me.

we should never have lost that, dida in goal was a clown. should done better with gerrards header and let smicer's shot through.. shouldve saved that.. and the other was a penalty rebound.

even in extra time, but for a dudek wonder save we'dve won it. unforgivable that we lost.

beat em easilily in 2007 though ;)

red star belgrade won the european cup in 1992.. also on penalties and played terrible football.

by the way i still call it the eurpoean cup.. cos it always will be for me... before im caslled out on that 1! :xmas:

Zacc - you are obviously against Rafa, but surely we need to put it in perspective that we're a small club who won't be able to attract the prefect manager. Surely if RB is willing to come to us, that is as good as we're going to get?

Can you think of another manager we'd realistically be able to attract with a better record??

i wouldnt want him.

i doubt theyll be a europe wide clammer for him in the summer.

but if he's willing to come and if the club want him, is all hypothetical, and i'll deal with that IF and when i have too! ;)

Nicely avoided the main question i.e. who do you think we'd be able to attract with a better record? Jose? Sir Alex?

CV wise.. without looking in depth.. then there's no one with a better record.

but there's more to it than that... look at the MILLIONS he had.. and mostly squandered. he won the eurpean cup with houlliers team.. a man derided on here and elsewhere :)

Rather than someone with an established record, we should go for an up-and-comer.

someone in the mould of Paul Lambert or (dare I say it) Coyle.

You're missing the point. Not only the final did Liverpool win, but you've just completely dismissed the whole qualifying stages. Olympiakos, where they needed 3 goals, Champions League quarter when they held Juventus to a goaless draw away from home. Beat Chelsea in the semi and then fought back from 3 down to win the Champions League.

None of that was boring or negative football.

You've not responded to the season when Liverpool scored more goals that United, but still finished 2nd. Doesn't that alone tell you that he is not a dull and negative manager?

GAV, I didn't think Chelsea were too bad to be honest. Yes they did grind out several 1-0 victories, but I also remember a point where Chelsea won several games 4-0. Robben and Duff together were devastating.

Total wage bill is more relevant than wage bill per player.

Not in the debate I was having, re: Drog's comment:

'Our players are paid much less than those in the top 6 of the Prem. Thats why we would never be in the top six whatever style we adopt.'

It's proven that our players are NOT paid much less than the average wage in the Top 6. So that's a moot point.

Now, the fact the bigger clubs can BUY better players than us, is a given. But even that doesn't equal success, as we've constantly finished above sides with better players on paper. Good management can go a long way.

maybe the players at big clubs get access to better drugs!

you know the ones that get flushed out of the system the week before a blood test because they know when they have to give a blood sample

Kean sounds up for it - Steve Kean is optimistic Blackburn can spoil Manchester United's party when the Premier League champions-elect head to Ewood Park on Saturday.

Kean is taking inspiration from last season, when Rovers held United to a goalless draw, as well as their encouraging recent form.

The Blackburn boss said: "They've got an agenda but we've got our own agenda for where we are at this particular point in the season. I'm sure they'll be determined, like we will be.

"We're in a very good place, getting five results out of the last seven. I think it's going to be a very tight game and we're confident we'll get something from it."

If he ever leaves football,(here's hoping),he would make an excellent spin doctor for a political party. I heard him talk about '5 positive results, better than any other club near the bottom' on tv after the W Ham game. Yes, well done Steve. You got us into the ###### but we're now wading around quite nicely in it :glare:

With regards to a Steve Kean replacement (alternatives to Rafa. Not sure I forgive his dismissive gestures when playing against us) how about we push the boat out and offer a big name their break in the PL?

Van Gaal?

Ten Cate?

Lippi?

Or bring back one of the bigger managers who HAVE been here before but have some smarts about them?

Hiddink? ALLEGEDLY, the only reason he isn't here is that he knew about inside politics at Chelski.

Ranieri? Expressed his desire to return fairly recent I think?

Jol?

If we're going to replace Kean, and Venky's want a big name, we need to get a big name MANAGER. Rafa would be a good option, certainly. But purely in terms of personal preference, I reckon we should at least enquire about those I just mentioned.

Big name...Ten Cate? Apart from his stint at Ajax, his managerial CV is with small clubs. He's been an assistant at big clubs, but so was Brian Kidd.

He's currently in one of the Arab countries anyway, and that's where people end up when their drive to succeed has gone and they just want some easy money.

Wonder who that's aimed at? ^_^

Total sloblock that is.

Oooooooooooooooh, looky! 1 win & 4 draws in the last 7 games! We're an unstoppable juggernaut, a runaway train headed straight for Win City.

Alex Ferguson must be having sleepless night wondering how to avoid getting hammered.

"in a good place", what's all that, psycho-babbly counselling talk that is. He'll be talking in the third person next. "Steve Kean is in a good place, because Steve Kean is getting this club together. We've got a good little run going, thanks to Steve Kean."

I'll be honest, I only mentioned him as he was linked last time we needed a manager. But the others are good, if not excellent, considerations surely? Of those, my preference would be Ranieri, on the basis that he has absolutely expressed his desire to manage in the PL again, thereby implying the hunger and drive that you allude to.

It must be a wonderful place where Kean lives!

Personally I'd go a completely different route and try to find Hughes Mk2 from within the English system. Billy Davies has done a fantastic job with Forest--young players playing great football, Gus Poyet similarly with Brighton. Moyes? Much more suitable for a club like our's.

Yeah I'm tired of Kean getting blamed for everything. First he gets accused of being a bad manager, then he gets accused of getting bad results, whatever next? Its a conspiracy!

5 positive results in 7 games, that's champions league form surely

I agree with Richard Keys he's doing a great job of fooling Venkys, Nicko and the media

But he doesn't fool my mother

Whalley isn't it ? Pleasant, not sure about wonderful.

Little wonder the players look confused on the pitch after listening to Kean's management-speak babble delivered in a Glaswegian accent.
