everyone is going over old ground here.

VENKYS ARE RUINING ROVERS ETC.. IN 6TH MONTHS JACKS LEGACY HAS BEEN TANISHED...

utter rubbish.

as for 4 months 1 win.. thats not really important right now.

i want us to win at wolves... and im going before any1 asks :P, but id take the point right now.

survival is all that matters.

recent performances have filled me with optimism, but has come far too late to save kean IMO.. and i believe he should be fired off in the summer.

on the 1998-99 side compared to this.. no comparison. only wilcox would get in our team now. IMO

Indeed, we fail to win at Wolves, we will have gone four months with ONE win!

You can talk about motivation, 'playing for the manager', whatever you like, but that record is shocking.

If we fail to win we will be down, a draw will not be good enough

maybe the team final team, but the squad had much better players (sadly injured most the season, key players)

Flitcroft, McKinley, Sherwood (first half of season), Gilespie, Jansen, Sutton, Gallacher, Henchoz, Flowers, Kenna, Wilcox.

All would not only walk into our team but are much better players.

We were WAY WAY too big to go down in 1999, miles too big, sadly usless idiots Hodgson and Kidd signed:

Davies, Peacock, Davidson, Carsley, F**KING DAILLY, Blake, Ward, McAteer, Perez for a crazy total of £34 million and did a lot of damage.

Hosgson missed out on Dublin for 6.5 millon so he goes and signed Nathan bloody Blake.

always hate Hodgson.

absolutely and cant be defended. not soley down to kean.. joint with the players as they have massively underperformed at times.

if they had performed with the same passion and desire since (that they are showing now) since jan, there is no way we wouldve been in this position.

 sorry.. of course i meant kidd's players.. and especially the

final teams he played after jansen and sutton got injured. beat wimbledon at home and look fairly secure.

he didnt play flowers in goal either.. a vendetta from rovers winning the league in 1995! ????

hodgson cocked up by panic buying inferior players when he couldnt get his prime targets.

we were devastated by injuries at the start of the season.. that and his poor buys had us 2nd bottom.

we'dve had more chance of staying up with woy than kidd though ;)

How exactly? We were rock bottom of the table when Hodgson got the sack.

Pretty pointless debate, anyway. It's like choosing between a rock and a hard place, but Kidd did make the better signings that season.

As for Flowers, wasn't he crocked that year IIRC? And I remember Filan having a good season, all things considered.

flowers was fit around feb.. i think.

on better chance with woy. pointless i agree.. but aleast he wouldnt have sold sherwood

and brought in mcateer, carsley ward and other donkeys.. they were even worse signings than blake and davies etc...

and tactically etc.. woy blew kidd out of the water

I remember in Kidd's first match he came to the pitch and started pointing a lot and everyone was really impressed with his pointing skills on here.

Kidd signed Jansen, don't forget. And at least McAteer & Gillespie were some use in our promotion season.

Davies was our most expensive flop of all time. Woy will never live that one down.

And at least Kidd got goals (all two of them) out of Davies. Now that's management!

Kevin Davies has proved to be an excellent Premier League footballer. He struggled at Rovers for some reason but if we had stuck with him we would have saved ourselves a fortune in transfer fees over the past 10 years.

If Bolton made Davies available now I'd still like to see him at Ewood. Very good player.

He didn't have a decent game of football for 4 years after leaving Blackburn, so I'll assume your joking about sticking by him.

2001 scored 1 league goal

2002 scored 2 league goals

2003 scored 4 league goals

and he's 34 and getting really slow, probably not a good time to sign him.

Not really, Jim. It clearly wasn't working out for him here and he couldn't wait to leave. It wasn't until some five years later that he actually got his career back on track, and that was due in part to Allardyce.

those players kidd bought took 2 years to come good. even short and jansen. we got relegated and got nowhere near playoff the following year.

mcateer wasnt a prem standard player IMO and gillespie went missing for long spells (on benders).

Souness had a great championship midfield in Duff, Dunn, Flitcroft and Gilespie. also Jansen upfront was a really exciting team.

Plus we got ride of the CIS sponsor which I SWEAR WAS PURE BAD EVIL LUCK.

After which he revived his career at Bolton under Sam and has proved to be one of the best and most consistent forwards in the Premier League.

Defenders hate playing against him and he is admired by his peers - see the quotes about him by Thierry Henry. He has won an England cap.

Kevin Davies could have been one of Rovers best-ever signings if we had stood by him - his subsequent record shows that.

And yes at 34, I'd still have him.

Bit of a wacky theory you have there that he was useless for 4 seasons scoring an average of 2 goals a year, but you would have kept him.

Even now he averages 7 or 8 goals a season, good but not great.

he won an England cap at 33 years old and it was a little pointless.

davies great player for a hoff ball team.

When Rovers signed him Davies was considered the best young forward in England and seen as the next Shearer. His signing was a real coup. He was young and presumably bought for his potential. The only "wacky" thing about that was Rovers selling him long before he had matured as a player.

You seem to like statistics - what's his goalscoring record at Bolton over the years ?

His England cap was long overdue and recognition for a top-class PL forward.

Silly words like "hoff ball" defeat your arguments.

We would have needed Sam to be manager for him to be effective. Sam changed the way he played and how he was perceived which actually says a lot about Davies and Sam, Sam for recognising the talent was being used wrong and Davies for listening to Sam's ideas and changing the way he played thus perceived by his fellow pros and fans. Without Sam Davies would have gone to the scrapheap of big money flops that never made it elsewhere and probably would be struggling to get a game in League 2 now. Anybody with any doubt of Sam's man management skills need to look at how he saved Kevin Davies' career.

Also, with regards to when we signed him, was he not signed as one of England's next big things at the time? We were all excited because he went on mazy runs and stuff. In hindsight you can look at that season and look at the managers we had and the money we spent on panic buys with the likes of Sherwood and Wilcox sold. Its amazing what a couple of wrong decisions regards to managers and signings meant and this was in the feel good factor era and we ended up getting relegated.
