  1. 1. Should Steve Kean stay or go

Recommended Posts

Kevin Davies could have been one of Rovers best-ever signings if we had stood by him - his subsequent record shows that.

And yes at 34, I'd still have him.

i agree if he was the player sam turned him into.

i think souey couldve got about him and improved him too.

but when he was at rovers he was a completely different player. he never won a single header at rovers and used to jump with his head level with his shoulders.

*he was also really ill during his time at rovers, which most people forget.

When Rovers signed him Davies was considered the best young forward in England and seen as the next Shearer.

lol I'm happy to adree to disagree on this, I think you are on your own here, you find me one other person on this board who agrees had the ability to be the next Shearer, that certianly never was going to happen.

Hodgson signed him along with Blake, Peacock and Dailly, says it all.

I just checked his states.

At Bolton he score 1 goal every 5 games.

as for 4 months 1 win.. thats not really important right now.

I'm bloody gobsmacked!!! How can it not be important? Just 2 wins would have seen us sat back lighting cigars now.

There really needs to be a Grooby for this! Could it be the :wstu: category perhaps?

Kevin Davies has proved to be an excellent Premier League footballer. He struggled at Rovers for some reason but if we had stuck with him we would have saved ourselves a fortune in transfer fees over the past 10 years.

If Bolton made Davies available now I'd still like to see him at Ewood. Very good player.

Seconded.

Guest roverite1991

Souness had a great championship Premiership (imo) midfield in Duff, Dunn, Flitcroft and Gilespie. Also Jansen upfront was a really exciting team.

Fixed :)

Mine and other people's opinions on his board over Davies don't matter. What do matter is the opinions of people in the game and Davies was considered to be another Alan Shearer in the making. Sorry if this doesn't fit in with your views on football.

Just because Hodgson signed Davies doesn't mean he was a poor player. Doesn't make any sense. Blake, Peacock and Dailly also were fair players - it's just that Hodgson paid far too much money for them.

doesnt matter right now.. SUNDAY IS ALL THAT MATTERS. whats gone before doesnt matter.

we can address that and hopefully bin him off in the summer.

if youre down at wolves, gordon.. i'll buy you a pint! ;)

Fixed :)

apart from flitcroft.. (who was injured for 2 seasons) kidd and parkes had dunn, duff and gillespie at their disposal.. but chose not to use them.

 and jansen took 2 years to come good, ie 2nd half of promotion season under souness. until then he was a head down player, and didnt see or use those players around him.

After which he revived his career at Bolton under Sam and has proved to be one of the best and most consistent forwards in the Premier League.

Defenders hate playing against him and he is admired by his peers - see the quotes about him by Thierry Henry. He has won an England cap.

I guess does Davis want to play in the Chumpiosnhip with a Doughnut for a manager.

Even if we stay up now we have seen enough to know he is not an EPL manager.

Whether Venkey's see this or not is anyone's guess.

I hope he is sacked as quickly as Grant was at WHU no matter what the result on Sunday.

I'd drink it too zacc. However I won't be there. Away days are largely consigned to either corporate hospitality, semi finals or the history bucket. I simply don't enjoy the experience any more of 'homer' officials, boorish and unecessarily uncouth fellow supporters many of whom spend more time either facing away from the pitch, or goading the home supporters with obscene chants and gestures and being forced into standing up when I should be sitting down.

Silly dsicussion between the moment Blackburn signed Davies and the next 5 years he scored about 8 goals. Alan Shearer scored about 150 goals in the same age bracket. so whoever said he was the next Shearer was WAY OFF.

And you think we should have hung on to him and waited until he "matured" at 25. Just let him rot in the resevres 5 years, that really would hasve helped his confidence.

He was right to move because he was useless for us and wanted to get his career back on track.

Blake, Peacock and Dailly were all championship standard players poor signings.

Did you? Why? Personally I'd never heard of him before he was put in charge never mind choosing him to replace a manager of such long Prem experience.

because he had been appointed as our manager and that wasn't going to change. Therefore you have to hope he can do the job because any success he had would be the team and the club's success. It's a long way from there to ever having wanted him in the first place. He would not have been the choice to replace Allardyce after his sacking of anyone here. Some of us though hoped for the good of the club that a mistake might turn out well in the end. We didn't think it likely but for us to succeed it had to work.

The only people who thought he was the next Shearer were a few tabloids making an easy compasion due to the Saints conection. Davis would not be the player he is now if he had stayed and rotted in the reserves for 5 years so your argument is moot.

Don't always agree with your posts - but this one I do. Often away games are very uncomfortable because of our own supporters. Forgetting the football, the filth coming out of mouths of supporters is disgusting. Even though it is front of women and kids, it is deemed acceptable to some. I heard a women complain to somebody who was swearing and cursing right next to her daughter - more or less shouting in the ear. The reply she got was, "one day she'll learn what the words mean. If you don't like it, don't bring her". A typical attitude sadly.

Kean is quoted in the press as saying that he's confident that we will "get at least a point" against Wolves. He does realise that we could still go down with Wolves in that situation----doesn't he?

Maybe you should email him to clarify the situation.......

I'm sure he does. I'm sure he also understands that if you bet on an outsider in the Grand National it could win. But it's very unlikely.

Bet £10 on us to draw and get relegated. I'm sure the £600+ winnings you would receive would take the edge off.

He's had this explained to him a few times.

Irrespective of which league we are in next season, Kean has to go.

His record, rookie or not, is simply appalling. 19 points from 20 games (with only one win in the last 13) would, in a normal PL season, see us relegated with about 36 points.

There is no point giving him cash to spend as firstly, he wont have the credibility or respect to attract 'wanted' players and secondly, after this window and assuming that he 'signed-off' the activity, you would overall question his judgement.

IMO, he is also an A1 bullsh1tter and hypocrite who, cannot be trusted (is the signing of Myles Anderson in the best interest of our club !?!?!). Who can forget the proclamations of pushing for top 5, open, attractive football. If Sam's team had have done what Kean's team did in the last 15 minutes on Saturday, some on here would have been incandescent with rage.

Finally, and most importantly, he does not command the respect, or draw the affection, of the vast majority of the support and that is why he did not appear after Saturday's match. You cannot fool the supporters.

It looks as though Venky's might just get away with a horrible, horrible mistake and they must not make the same mistake again as WHAM made with Avram (having taken Pompey down).

True, but it was way more likely to happen under sam than steve.

'Experience' per se is no guarantee of quality erudition...you're living proof of that Gordon.
