  1. 1. Should Steve Kean stay or go

Recommended Posts

I think it's safe to say given our position we'd all be enormously disappointed if Phil Jones or one of the other players had been charged with the same offence on Saturday.

The hypothetical difference between Jones and Kean for me would be the former hasn't put a foot wrong at all up until this point and happily, is showing no signs of doing so. Seems like a level headed lad. If he was to make a stupid mistake, it's not like he's already on his second chance.

Kean is on a varying amount of thin ice for nearly every fan.

Wonder where he was going considering he lives in Whalley? Jcts 19-18 is halfway between Manchester and Stoke, I thought most managers just went home and watched Match of the Day after a good result on a saturday. Kean seems to prefer an afternoon drink or 3 and then an awol trip down south (presumably wearing only an old trenchcoat and some slippers).

He was going to visit Mick McCarthy to agree the ground rules for Sunday.

How can a manager be respected by the players when he drink drives. If my boss did that, I would lose a lot of respect for him/her. So yes, there is a big difference between Kean and Phil Jones getting caught drink driving. Also, Kean is in his 40s and not 19. We all make mistakes and this is a particularly reckless one, but people in high powered positions should be particularly careful about their conduct. Making an example of Kean and sacking him would be a good idea and I don't say this because I want him sacked for football reasons. Hopefully, youngsters will see what a poor manager he is and realise that alcohol makes you stupid.

He's been stupid and will be dealt with by the courts accordingly and quite right too.

Anything more than this is just knee-jerkism to fuel already ingrained antipathy to Kean...

I wouldn't have a problem if Kean is sacked in the summer as a response to results but I would have a problem if he was sacked for this.

Some on here are so sanctimonious it's embarrassing.

Maybe you would not have been quite so 'understanding' if he had hit someone. Totally irresponsible, stupid, dangerous and life threatening behaviour. Even the 'Keantards' will struggle to defend this one.

Will be interesting to see how our classy new owners deal with this, as I am not sure these were the values they were hoping to benefit from when attaching their company branding to our football club.

Talk about blowing things out of proportion.

Lampard, Gerrard, Terry, Ferdinand, Ashley Cole and several other players and I'm sure managers have committed several offences on the road. Doesn't make them any less of a manager/player.

It was stupid of him, but that doesn't change anything at all. Do you really think after Lampard was caught speeding the Chelsea players no longer had respect for him? When Gerrard battered that DJ? Ashley Cole firing a gun at a placement student?

All just as bad, and have been swept under the carpet. Typical Rovers fans, making a big deal over nothing.

Get on with it.

You're right drink driving is all of those things but the fact remains he didn't maim or kill anyone so that's not an issue.

People who get convicted of this (unless it's a very clear terms of employment no-no)tend not to get sacked for this so I'm not sure we can make Kean a special case as much as some might want to...

Bit of a silly comment TBH. How can it make any of the above mentioned less of a manager, when they have never been a manager?

The manager is in charge of all players and required to set an example and be a figure head of the football club. players are one in a group. If you advocate this type of behaviour then billy ho and well done, but most including the police tend to believe it is a criminal offence and not advisable or recommended.

You are bringing reasoning into the debate when you should know that Kean is the anti-christ and not just a struggling rookie manager ;)

Thank god, someone with a brain in the media:

"Kean talks of six “positive” results from eight games, but in fact Blackburn have won only once since January." Phil Brown

This statement with that name simply does not fit.

I'm sure old perma-tan was desperatly trying to put positive spin on Hulls downward trajectory before he got the chop.

Another of Sam's old pals having a dig, enjoy league one with the nobenders.

Rights and wrongs do not matter. This will not alter or deflect from his ability or indeed inability as a football manager.

btw I'd wager he had a few too many glasses of champers with the old RFW after the match. Prob at Fergy's insistance too! ;) After all who could refuse a drink at the request of the great man? The true 'Guvnor', a footballing megastar, a night of the realm, a fellow scot and one who had just smashed one hell of a footballing record. Until recently SK would have been packing the players off and making sure the match balls were all present and correct and the tactics scrubbed from the board etc etc. Instead he's drinking at the top table with a legend.

.... I'd not be suprised if Big Sam actually paid for the champagne too ;) ..... before he called the police to report the number plate of a car being driven erratically down the M6 southbound. :o

I would jail every drunk driver as well as give them a driving ban. Getting behind the wheel when drunk is a danger to everybody else on the same route. Makes no diffeence what profession a person is in. I detest drunk drivers.

I have exactly the same opinion of people who own aggressive dogs. But as that braindead custom hasn't been around as long as drink driving it receives a lot less hostility. Not that I'm trying to defend drink driving in any way but it does seem to me that its fashionable to overblow certain crimes. I'm sure Kean will receive a fine and probably a ban but I don't think he should lose his job. Everyone makes mistakes, as long as he learns from it.
