  1. 1. Should Steve Kean stay or go

Recommended Posts

We dont want Steve Maccer, he is a bad manager. Did well at Twente but then reverted back to his best at Wolfsburg. The UEFA cup run he endured at Boro was proper spawny and they were well and truely shown up in the final.

Steve Maccer would be a very very very minor improvement on what we have already, or dare i even say it, but a step backwards

Steve Maclaren?

One word-Massimo Maccarone.

"Maclaren wins hand in Vastly Overpriced Crap Italian Striker Purchases Top Trumps game against Graeme Souness."

Bit harsh that. Maccarone did look brilliant as a young player but, for some reason, didn't fulfil it.

Even so, his goalscoring record with Boro about the same as Jason Roberts' with us. He went back to Serie A and scored 34 goals in 102 games.

Doesn't even come close to Grabbi standards of awfulness. Maccarone wasn't worth £8 million or whatever they paid, but he's still been a good player through is career.

Villa have got the right idea...

Aston Villa are monitoring Everton manager David Moyes and Fulham's Mark Hughes as they prepare for the possibility that Gerard Houllier may not return to the dugout after his latest heart problems.

Better CV than the present incumbent don't you think ?

McClaren is looking to return to English football and Rovers would be perfect for him and us. He will have great contacts within the game from his days at ManU and England and players will want to come to the club to play for him. Better choice than Benitez

You talk about CV's and then think McLaren would be better choice than Benitez?

Because we have Kean as manager, expectations have been severely lowered when discussing possible new managers. It should not be a case of just because he (potentially) is better than Kean means he would be a good selection (the thinking from some is anyone could/would be a better manager).

On Steve Mac, whilst not completely against the idea, I am not fully convinced strikes me as more of a coach than a manager.

Venkys claim they are really ambitious with their plans for the club, however the fact we have a novice manager undermines that notion.

i dont want either..

but id take benitez and mcc as his assistant.

benitez needs a good number 2 and an excellent coach (he got rid of paco at liverpool)

as he is distant and has nothing to do with the players.. hardly speaks to them 1 on 1.

mcc is an excellent coach.. but as a manager.. very suspect.

yes benitez won 2 trophies.. both on pens.. (1 with houllier's squad).

mcc 1 carling cup and 1 7th place finish. that is impressive to me.. and more

impressive than raffle's 2 cup wins- considering what he had to do.. ie convince players to sign for middlesbro.. isnt easy.

both are negative managers who have wasted huge budgets at the helm of premier league clubs... for very little gain in comparison...

oh and both play really dull football.

So what if Julio was signed to keep Roque happy? He was our star player at the time, nothing wrong with trying to safeguard your prize assets.

Signing Myles Anderson is totally different. Why should we be trying to keep a football agent happy?

Two utterly different situations.

Either way, it's nepotism. Neither player has been signed based on their footballing merits.

I didn't say he would necessarily be the best option but I'd still be very happy if we managed to get him for next year.

Two cup finals and consistant mid table finishes with Boro in his only English job and a championship with a tiny club in a league which has a few giants in it is exactly the sort of CV we should be jumping all over. Alright, he had a bit of a mare at Wolfsburg but he was hardly given a long time to put his stamp on the squad, and even the most ambitious Rovers fans wouldn't see the Wolfsburg job as anything like resembling our ambitions for the next few seasons.

Of course I'd still be more confident of success under say, O'Neill or Moyes, but seeing as this is pretty much the first media story which suggests that Kean will be out and names a replacement, McClaren would still be a great option IMO.

but signed for entirely different reasons..........

true. cant defend the anderson signing and i wont.

football is an old boys network.. and many old pals handshakes go on.

how many sons of ex players get signed up.. (even if they dont make the grade they get every advantage and big money.

look at alex bruce and casper schmeichel (city got rid of a number of excellent keepers.. including keiran westwood and absolutely oustanding keeper, who were better than him)

also clubs signing brothers of players is beyond common... fabio and grooverider (rafael ), and anton ferdinand.. how that bloke has ever had a career amazes me.

I think the twins at Man U are going to be awesome footballers, Rafael especially, they both have tremendous technique and awareness, plus they work so hard and have a great attitude to the game.

Paul Scholes must have taught them how to tackle, dirty isn't the word

Tell you what, they could do much worse than take a leaf out of Scholes book, he's been and still is a top player, fire in their bellies, thats what Savage had too a bit of bite!

Tell you what, positive thinking counts for bugger all when you get on the end of a Scholes tackle, you either get up and on with things or dissappear out of his way somewhere!

They are quite young, they can learn to defend, Neville struggled to defend early doors but became a real good pro, much as I dislike him as a person.

How can you forget the attacking dynamo Julio Santa Cruz??

I would take Steve McClaren as manager and would be miles better than Kean!

did a good job at Boro and Fc Twente

i wouldn't say he did a good job at Middlesboro'

he spent many millions of pounds to achieve mid table. he achieved a win percentage of 38.8% as a premier league manager and lost 93 of his 250 games whilst only winning 97?

upsetting many boro fan's with his style of play in the process

The next Rovers manager should have a spec of being a prolific goalscorer during his club career and won top honours doing it whilst being supported by an excellent team = the recipe for managerial success.

Clough did it

Dalglish did it

Ferguson does it

Hughes did it

Capello did it

Mancini did it

Is there any one out there not mentioned yet available that fits this kind of bill and please no Alan Shearer.

According to the law it is very simple: if you're over the limit you're nicked.

It's also simple to live by the rule that it you are driving a car you do not drink.

Kean's an idiot and will lose his licence but calls for him to lose his job for this offence are over the top.

As for the more serious offence of being a useless football manager, he does not have any defence (or attack) and should be driven out of Ewood at high speed at the end of the season.

jim i ask again....how do you work out being a rubbish football manager is worse than a drunk driver? I hope you never lose any family members due to drink driving.

By all accounts Capello was a very good player, but 45 goals in 340 games doesn't suggest he was a prolific scorer though. He did win the Serie A four times and Coppa Italia twice, which ain't too bad!

Ferguson was leading goalscorer at Rangers before the bigots at Ibrox got rid of him because of his catholic wife. ;)
