JAL Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 By all accounts Capello was a very good player, but 45 goals in 340 games doesn't suggest he was a prolific scorer though. He did win the Serie A four times and Coppa Italia twice, which ain't too bad! This was in an era when one nil in Italian football won the game.

JAL Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 his scoring record fair enough! however i was questioning the top honours he won whilst scoring goals? Yes, I agree with you Mark, you could add Brian Clough in there aswell though i'm not too sure.
sparkspakespoke Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 They are quite young, they can learn to defend, Neville struggled to defend early doors but became a real good pro, much as I dislike him as a person. Huh I always thought it was the other way round. Neville was first a solid defender, used to play centre back a bit in his early days, and added the attacking side to his game later. About the time beckham broke into the side regularly and they started to link up down the right. I'd liken the twins more to ashley cole who was always great going forward, in fact he played on the wing for palace when on loan there. His defending came on with age when he gained more maturity and concentration. Any way I agree about the twins they have the technique and skill of true footballers and have big futures.

JAL Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Can anyone throw a new name into the hat that was a good striker in his career and in management. For me, an important ingredient in having someone who knows what it takes to put that ball in the bleeding net. Football a simple game.
mark1875 Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Yes, I agree with you Mark, you could add Brian Clough in there aswell though i'm not too sure. didnt win anything of note, but we will let him off cos his scoring record is phenomenal lol
JAL Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 didnt win anything of note, but we will let him off cos his scoring record is phenomenal lol The key with Clough is going back to my original post is the quality of the backroom team. Clough had Peter Taylor who together were an absolutely magnificent pair. So to talk of Clough on his own is a little bit unfair as Peter Taylor was equally important to Brian Cloughs success make no mistake.

But remember, Clough and Taylor discussed things, Taylor gave his thoughts and (cloughs words) decided he was right

mark1875 Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Sparky? he crossed my mind, however if fulham hit europe would he be available to us? was thinking along the lines of out of work/championship myself tbh
deftangel Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 I'm not saying I think it's a good signing, I'm just saying there's no evidence it is anything other than completely legal and above board. As in complying with all relevant legislation. So in my view it is completely OTT to say it brings the Club into disrepute. In my defence, I did say potentially into disrepute. Moreover, at a time when there was a lot of chat about Anderson's involvement and how exactly he got the job in the first place, it was a spectacularly stupid decision to sign Anderson Jr which has little to no merit on the football side of things on the face of it. Whatever happens on the weekend, Venky's have to decide if they wish to take a gamble (and it would be one) in persisting with his services. If we survive, it wasn't one I had completely closed my mind to but I'm not minded to think it one worth taking if the man isn't even capable of making sensible decisions off the pitch, let alone on it. It's not the whole thing, that goes without saying. But it matters, as far as I'm concerned.
JAL Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Klinsman? Good call is there anymore! Just hope I can be of use to lead us in the right direction.
cruz Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Where does Mourinho fit into this fantasy world of where only top prolific goalscorers make great managers? What about Wenger, Shankly, Paisley and Fagan to name a few
JAL Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Where does Mourinho fit into this fantasy world of where only top prolific goalscorers make great managers? What about Wenger, Shankly, Paisley and Fagan to name a few Your going back to an era where you could slow the game down by passing back to the goalie and get away with rough house challenges that today would be automatic red cards. Yes, Mourinho is the exception to the rule is there anyone else out there of his kind who have consistently won recently at the top level. Hope you see that the game has moved on.
deftangel Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Villas-Boas has just won the UEFA cup and is on the verge of doing a quadruple with Porto. He's never even played professional football!
tony gale's mic Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Yeah, this manager as goalscorer thing is total rubbish.
Montfort Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Steve McClaren has been lined up for a "shock return" to Premier League football with Blackburn Rovers according to that font of all knowledge, the Daily Star. The sad thing is that he would be seen as a better bet than Keen by many, whilst 6 months ago no one would have given you the time of day for him.
sparkspakespoke Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 No apology needed mum. If he went sunday morning why was if still not in training tuesday? Thats three whole days he was away at the most crucial of times.
roversmum Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 I have to say I'm not at all happy about him having to go off to India particularly at such a crucial time, sparks. It's bound to have an effect, it's hardly like popping down the road, is it? I guess the lads had a couple of days off, that seems to be fairly usual, and Jensen took the training yesterday. Anyway, in the article, this caught my eye: Kean, 43, is convinced he will not be heavily punished over the positive breath test he gave just hours after Blackburn's 1-1 Saturday lunchtime draw with Manchester United. He told friends the second test was negative and is confident he will not be clobbered in court next month.
cn174 Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Didn't he go after the West Ham game or did I imagine that? For me, if he went to India and lost his passport whilst there, that would be the best option!
Billy Castell Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 I just wish we could have Joachim Louw, either with or without Klinsmann. Louw was the main reason Germany did so well in 2006, Klinsmann was more of an inspirational figurehead a la Maradona for Argentina. McClaren is a pretty ____ manager, but still an improvement on Kean.
