  1. 1. Should Steve Kean stay or go

Recommended Posts

Wonder if the NoTW story is payback for the Sun being talked into running the ages old Givet story to cover Kean's drink driving as Revige suggested?

As I understand it, Rafa's pre-contract probably would have meant him starting next week but he now knows too much about Venky's and is giving Rovers the miss.

Therefore Kean is in for the duration of Venky's tenure.

IF Rafa signed a pre contract then I am assuming there were clauses which mean he get out of it in certain conditions(note I am assuming not making assertions and dressing them as gospel fact) These were rumours and one thing that The Raos have been consistent about has been their support for Kean.

There have also been presistant rumours about rafa coming to Rovers. A rumour that does not seem to go away. We must also bear in mind venkys do have a tendancy to change their minds. Sure Sam and JW would agree with me on that. If the unthinkable happens and Rovers are relegated, when venkys count the cost of relegation, when money side of things really hits them - I think they are likely to reconsider their whole situation with regards to Rovers. I think it is possible, they have been ill advised on the consequences of relegation.

The story probably came from this site or sites similar to this, so take it with a large pinch of salt.

I couldn't help but laugh reading comments about people not wanting Rafa on this and the Rafa thread..... We have Steve Kean in charge for goodness sake, and you don't want Rafa! The mind boggles.

I prefer Rafa to Kean---who wouldn't? However there are other alternatives surely? They aren't the only 2 available managers in the world!

His form of cheque-book managing wouldn't work for us imo. A transfer budget of 20M is small change to him and he'd waste it. Anyway we don't want anymore of that boring football surely!

It must be wonderful on your ivory tower, any more insults?

"But Sam was a good manager who was rightly being retained in his job, and Kean is a poor manager who is being mysteriously kept in his job by our idiot owners."

Firstly you spin that. Sam a good manager? He was an average at best and split opinion amongst the fans.

And the owners are idiotic because they made a football decision you didnt agree with i assume? Well boohoo, when you stump up 40 million and buy the club, you can once again install good ol big sam as manager and admire him for the rest of time. Im sure Phil Black could set up the deal.

First and foremost, it's an opinion. Secondly, it's an opinion which is shared by the majority of Rovers fans, as is evidenced by the LET poll when he was sacked. Average at best? Over his final four years at Bolton, they were the best team in the country outside of the big four. He saved us from relegation. He got us to 10th last season on a negative net transfer budget when finishing anywhere above 9th was unrealistic given the amount those teams had to spend. He had us on course for a similar finish this season. And you think that calling him a "good" manager is spin?

Venky's made a decision that the majority of Rovers fans and the vast majority of the football community in this country disagreed with. Your point about me stumping up 40 million has absolutely no relevance in anything, and there's no evidence that Phil Black had anything to do with Sam.

Kean spinning like a top in a pre-match interview I saw. Wolves and ourselves are apparently "two teams in top form".

Does he really believe this rubbish? We have 6 "positive results' out of the last 8 games but only 1 win!

We have 8 points out of 8 games-----relegation form!

By contrast Wolves have won both of their last 2 games, home and away, and scored 6 goals in doing it. That's form.

I would respect him more if he were more honest. But he feels the need to over-egg the pudding to a ludicrous extent.

Unless Venky's have been lying to Steve Kean then he is not getting sacked, he is totally and utterly convinced that he is not getting sacked, looks like whatever was said to him at the meeting is India has given him the confidence to come out at the pre-mtach press conference and say that his position was safe regardless of which division we are in.

Bloody good form compared to the dismal form before though. ;)

Shock horror.

You're an absolute joke.

Every manager comes out with this stuff. Is this the first time you've noticed that managers generally paint a far rosier picture of any situation their club happens to fall into? Really? I dont take exception to Kean being overly positive because every manager does it, but its another stick to beat him with I suppose so dont let that stop you.

If you can name an 'honest' manager, i'd be impressed. Allardyce came out with far more cr*p if i remember.

In the last month he's done alright. Doesn't make up for his disastrous start, but its something. He's done far better then most people on here thought he'd do in that period.

I dont understand why you make that comment?

Oh come on Kelbo, you read this forum.

In fact forget it. I'm not getting into it with you or anybody else today of all days.

Reading this forum has been much better since I started to use to ignore facility. Sadly there's no way to get around quotes.

The front page of yesterday's Times had an interview with the owner of Tata. I found it very interesting that one of the excuses (sorry, reasons) for cutting 1500 UK jobs was down to a lack of work ethic from managers. Seemingly a lot of his UK managers have a life outside of work (!).

It made me immediately think of wor Steve, and the fact that his is a thinker who 'works hard'. Putting in the hours regardless of the quality of output is clearly a cultural requirement for Indian owners. That being the case, as long as Kean carries on jumping on planes and clocking off after 10pm, he'll be here for a good while yet. I imagine he's the cheap option too - even with all that overtime!

Oh right! So its me, I'm the problem!!! And what's Allardyce to do with it? I thought he'd gone and wasn't coming back?

Actually I think Rovers have done better lately too. So why spoil it with all that verbal garbage?

If you read my post more carefully you'll see I mentioned that he spun "to a ludicrous extent". Sure all managers make the best of things to some degree but no-one gets close to Kean in this regard. The press have picked up on it lately (Guardian today) and laugh at him. As do I.

If your opinion is different , I'll live with it.

One win in the last 4 months, yeah he has done great.

Kean support now up to 11%, anyone who has changed their minds care to explain why they now want Kean to remain our manager?

I think there may well be a few managers in the prem moving to different clubs during the summer.

They are not the only two managers you're right, we'd both have Hughes back tomorrow, but sadly that won't happen.

Rafa is without doubt a cheque book manager, but 20m is good money, and i think he'd do ok on that if he could keep Samba and jones also.

Alternatives? Interested in coming? Not convinced we'll have many takers of decent calibre.
