  1. 1. Should Steve Kean stay or go

Recommended Posts

however I too hold reservations about Keans ability to take us forward.

Quite a large number hold the same opinion but If we all agreed then the world would be a boring place.

Hell some fans used to moan about King Kenny going defensive when we went 1 up

You spoke of 'the misery guts who wanted Steve Kean to fail". Pleased to see you are moderating your stance.

A large number wanted Sam sacked before he arrived at Ewood and, in the end, Souness was a very divisive manager so i think we are all going to have to live with it.

But we're not still going on about Souness these days.

Let's get over Sam, he's gone, Full Stop.

Tomorrow is another day, let's look foreward.

Happy and much relieved in relation to our form, we were sliding downwards so fast at one stage I thought it was looking very grim.

We ended the season picking up some vital points and yesterday turned out to be relatively comfortable.

Kean has certainly improved (he had to), however I am still not fully convinced him and his coaching staff have the necessary credentials to really take us forward - my thinking is also based in that we (apparently) have finance available for improving the club.

Kean has to go quickly. He brings no star quality with him at all....inexperienced backroom staff..we need a manager that's going to excite us and the players...I'd like to choose from;

Sven

O'Neil

Benetiz

The Chap from Porto

McClaren

Riikard - is he in a job?

Hoddle

All of these will bring in the type of signings we all want....would you trust £20m to Kean?

Well done Rovers yesterday and massive credit must be go to Steve Kean. The togetherness they have shown recently has been tremendous and I know he has doubters, buts its obvious the players are enjoying playing for him. Something that couldnt be said for Paul Ince and at times the 'messiah' that is sam allardyce!!

I was always confident we'd stay up, i posted before the city game that i didnt think we'd lose another game till the end of the season and bar a narrow defeat against city i wasnt far off.

I really am feeling positive about next season and think Kean will turn out to be a good manager. Its been a horrible season this season and thinks could and should have been done better but thats football. We have new owners who are prepared (I think) to spend money, and a manager who is trying to bring in players to play decent football. How long is it since anyone could say that about us

What we need is a few good signings in the summer, make J Jones loan permanant, keep samba and P Jones and add a couple of strikers and a midfielder and optimism will start to flood back in.

I can honestly see a top 8-10 finish next season.

To put it into context, we have finished 3 points behind stoke and 5 behind villa. Both of whom have spent millions!!!! We would have struggled this season whoever had been in charge because of lack of investment

Roll on next season

Remember joey big nose that it was always the strength of the players at the club that were here already, that carried or allowed Rovers and Kean to achieve safety in the end.

Not entirely true - J Jones has been an inspirational signing and Olsson, Hoilett, Nzonzi, Roberts and Emerton put in big performances under Kean that they has not been doing for Sam.

All I want to say to Steve Kean is well done.

The fella has been on a hiding to nothing since he took over but you have to give him credit for having the nuts to make regulars out of Hoilett and ollsen, something that wouldn't have happened under SA.

I also think that yesterday was a glimpse into what could be a very exciting future for Blackburn Rovers.

One love - BRFC

Like Blackpool Rover I have been avoiding posting over last few weeks. My Season Ticket has been unused by me...friends girlfriend using it instead. And the only match I have been to was Everton Away - lucky me!

For the first 4 weeks I did not even log on to BRFCS, the last 4 weeks I have been lurking. And avoiding the anti-Pune diatribes from Phillip L. and the constant negativity of Mercerman that has been making BRFCS a source of pain and not support in times of trouble.

Yesterday was the first day of relaxing(from Half-time onwards). I have taken nearly 30 flights in those 8 weeks and yesterdays was throughout the second half.I feel the team now has a new shape, a new feel to it and with 3 strategic signings(incl JJ) it looks one for the future. A rookie manager sure but in this league it is hard to experiment and he learned a lot this season.

Looking forward to a summer of Nicko, and Majiball starting to be analytically positive again.

AND PURCHASING MY NEXT SEASON TICKET!!

What did you expect?

You posted a nice reply which I was in the process of responding to civilly and you jump on another post and claim yet again I am upset we didn't go down. You question my motives, my love for this club and you didn't even wait for me to reply to you before jumped in again. Not on in my eyes.

You claim people scream and shout at you on here I can see why and that's exactly why you got the response you did. You show me no respect I'll show you none.

Your not a rover, you only come on here to try and provoke people who post things you don't like.

not nice is it when people who know precisely the square route of diddly squat about you question your values and believes.......

you reap what you sow.

Goodbye.........

Bit rich that coming from you. Callimg me a hypocrite because TGM just can't/won't drop the 'Sam would have done it better' mantra, which is quite rightly getting on a lot of peoples wicks as it's clearly old news.

Some of you need to move on and start to embrace the future rather than bleating on and on about how crap the last 6 months have been.

Totally unexpected half time result yesterday, no nerves for us, also quite happy that Wolves survived along with us as well, keeping the whole ground in a party atmos.

Really glad West Ham have gone as well as Brum, to be honest as for the other relegation place, no one wanted to see Blackpool down, but i couldn't care less as long as it wasn't us.

Steve Kean does deserve credit for yesterday, we had a job to do and went for it straight away. Wolves were down at half time so the only way the game was going to go was in Wolves favour from then on. We held on and didn't have to rely on other results to save us.

The season has ended and hopefully we can all move on, leave past behind and forget all the "what could have happended under sam" stuff and look forward to the summer, hopefully get some new players in and go into next season in a positive mindset.

Regardless of what we think of Kean, it looks like he will be the manager next season. Kean has told anyone who will listen that he has meetings already planned regarding the summer and that he has the full backing of the owners. He also got a nice "Thumbs up" from one of the brothers at the end of the game :)

I have read interviews by Emerton and Salgado recently in the LET that the club was looking good, with the owners plans and the really good set of young players we already have at the club, so hopefully we are moving in the right direction.

Oh--puhlese! Of course Sam's gone and isn't coming back but his name is brought up everyday by somebody or other. As the previous manager he acts as a frame of reference for what is going on now and that goes for those who disliked him as much as those who liked him.

Given time his name will crop up less and less frequently as happens with Souness and Sparky now. A decent manager would hasten the process (sigh).

Fools and their money are soon parted goes the old saying.

More incredible vaivety and stupidity! We at BRFC have surely learned through experience that the very last thing you do as a transfer window opens is broadcast to all and sundry clubs and agents that you have a big budget to spend. The thick ######! :angry2:

I'm tired of hearing Kean talk about us having "significant" funds.

Actions speak louder than words - and as 'Drog says it's not exactly brilliant business sense to advertise to everybody that we have a big budget.

Just shut up and get on with transfer business quietly for goodness sake.

Sigh. If you cant see that sometimes situations are sometimes beyond our control then I guess our debate is done.

It wasn't keens fault he took the job, it was a great chance for him if it had been offered to you would you have turned it down because you knex there were other better qualified people out there?

It was a difficult situation for any manager let alone a novice, he did okay go my eyes.

Anyway my baby daughter has finally stopped crying about her tooth coming through so I have a window of sleep which is roughly two hours so i'm gonna take it.

Really happy we're still in the premiership, it could have been a lot worse. Coyb!

You say situations are beyond our control and I say that's never the case as you are involved, you always have a choice and one man can make a difference. We obviously have had very different life experiences.

I maybe a sports scientist now, but before that I have had a very successful career in another industry. Have I been offered jobs that I felt I wasn't ready for, yes. Last year I turned down two clubs at premier league level, because I wanted to gain more experience at the lower levels after taking a year off from coaching. I did the same in catering and given by 24 I was running red star Hotels and Michelin star restaurants I'd say my method has stood me well so far.

What is the point of taking a job you are not ready for and failing? Your career will disappear in certain industries, so to answer your question I control my life, I decide when I am ready to step up and no miracle opportunity will influence my opinion on me and my ability.

I guess we just have different viewpoints on life and I respect you for coming out and telling me why you feel the way you do, it's refreshing. I too am glad we are still a premier league team, but I remain very skeptical Venky's and Kean are right for Rovers or right to take us forward. They have been proven to be liars (Venky's) - Sam, JW, so I worry massively about what else they are telling porkies about???? Their actions as well show me they lack bottle, running away after sacking JW, avoiding all home matches. If they change their tune and start to display attributes and traits that I can respect the evetually I my change my stance, it's not written in stone, but I do not forget quickly and never have...

PS I hope you got some sleep and the baby had a quiet night

I've edited my reply having properly read your's. You misunderstood me. I didn't accuse you of wanting Rovers to be relegated. I think some on here actually did but have never got the impression that you are one of them.

You clearly really dislike Steve Kean. I don't think that he should be Rovers manager either but the vitriol bordering on hatred for the guy puzzles me.

I don't think that you wanted us to go down but I do think that you wanted Kean to fail and, IMO, that is reflected in your posts tonight. You seem a bit angry and/or may have had a few scoops.

Firstly that was the second time I posted you were implying I wanted us relegated, so either A: you aren't reading my posts before replying or B: your back tracking.

I don't know Steve Kean, so I neither dislike him or hate him. However as a manager and from what I have seen both on the pitch and publicly I don't see a man that inspires me, that fills me with confidence. I see a man who looks so out of his depth he celebrates half a game, I can't get on board with that as one swallow does not a summer make and 21 in 22, alongside the worst run in 30 years, do not give me confidence for next season. Players may love him as some are saying but why do they love him?

Deryck do you understand that Kean failing means Rovers get relegated, so are you implying that yet again? What I want finally after 3 managers that have completely divided the fans, is one who will galvanise us. I wanted the same pre-Sam, after Sam and after Hughes so you can harp on all you like about my supposed dislike of Kean and trying to put words in my mouth. I know my own mind, you don't even know my hair colour...........

And I know what a united club can achieve.

I don't know, I quite liked hearing it, he was making a statemnt that we have ambition, doesn't matter who you buy in England their price will be stupidly high.

Delighted that we beat Wolves and stayed up, but I have serious doubts that Kean is the man to take us forward. We should have never been in the relegation fight in the first place.

I will not go into hypothetical scenarios that he may have lost the dressing room or that he stabbed Sam Allardyce in the back or even as to why a first team coach would need an agent, rather I will merely mention the facts that make me think that he won't make it as a manager.

- Kean didn't bother standing up for either Diouf after that clown Warnock launched a scathing attack against him nor Givet after he was unfairly sent off for yelling at the referee. Players respond to managers sticking up for them and going to bat for them, rather than letting the media and referees unfairly chew them up.

- Kean has been tactically naive- have people already forgotten the awesome diamond midfield formation he came up with.. The game vs Newcastle was one of the worst performances that I've ever seen - I don't think we even had anyone playing on the right side of midfield for large portions of the game.

- The signing of Myles Andersen which I think we can all safely say that he wasn't signed for his stellar footballing ability.

- The Lies or maybe some would prefer "the spin"- (In no particular order)

1) Right before signing Faxe Jensen we were told to expect a name that would make us stand up and take notice only for us to sign Jensen...

2) The so- called positive results, aka our worst run ever, and the fact that we are playing more attractive football and scoring better goals... Even vs. Wolves all three of our goals were from long balls. There seems to be a misconception that short balls = more attractive football

3) During the Givet tax story Kean proceeded to Big up Givet all week and say that he was ready to play, but then dropped him and saying he wasn't mentally there.

4) Saying that he didn't want to talk about a contract with Junior Hoilett as to not distract him towards the end of the end of the season, yet before the Wolves game thought it was appropriate to reveal that he had flown out to Pune to discuss a new contract for Hoilett.

I would really prefer an established manager, preferably with premier league experience, to come in and take the club forward, especially now that it seems that we have a transfer budget and that we want to challenge for a European spot. If, however, he is retained I will continue to support the team and hope that I am wrong and we do succeed next season.

Our play is more balanced than it ever was under Sam. We do go route one at times, but there's also a lot more ball retention and interplay in midfield, with an emphasis on getting the ball out wide. Also, with Pedersen dropped, it's brought an end to the incessant long-throws, which were always a waste of bloody time.

Yep agree with that. Olsson was injured though earlier in the season and Hoilett was still establishing himself but, even allowing for that, both have become key players under Kean.
