  1. 1. Should Steve Kean stay or go

You've completely misinterpreted those statistics though.

If you read then properly they'll tell you that we were a long way off being a relegation side under Allardyce over a full season, but would have been relegated under Kean over a full season.

We weren't though. If we extended Sam's record pre Christmas 2009 we probably would have been relegated.

I also think it's a bit false to assume that his record in his first half season will be the same as when he has a full pre season to work with the squad. We got results by maintaining a style of play that the players seemed to enjoy.

I think we will do pretty well next season tbh. I'm looking forward to it. I assume the players are as well.

Who says?

Didn't make much difference when we went on our worst run of results for 25 years...

Look at the time Kean started with the positive spin and how results changed.

Are you still giving up football? or has Kean convinced you otherwise?

Kean has remained the same throughout his tenure - of course you need to keep things upbeat and positive, especially with the players, however Kean went well OTT with his public comments (which made him open to ridicule).

If you look at my original comments I said unlikely I would……...don’t let that stop you though Gav, you have made a pretty good fool of yourself in recent times on this forum.

On the subject of Keans spin, if you remember the last manager, during a run of 9 games without a win, constantly came out to the press saying how crap we are. He never once put any postiive spin on it.............hang on.....he did.....but then again he's a Champions league and world cup winning manager.......he must be given all the hero worship of the last 5 months

Is this the best "spin" you can do, then you are perhaps the only poster on this board, who could learn a thing about "spin" from kean or even venky´s. (insert teen emoticon,as a sign of my superiority and me being on top of the world)

is it really neccessary to lie, when debating.?

kean has been trying, to put a positive spin on everything, since he took the job.

if this is his persona, then he should stick to it, but also be prepared for criticism, as not all want to hear him talking about dominating teams, when we played poor. Ofcourse kean cant reveal everything, but honesty is actually appreciated in some places.

Keans done a great job in keeping things positive during the relegation fight, I can’t recall another Rovers manager getting a response like Kean did after the Everton game, when we looked doomed, keep up the positive spin for me all the way John.

You made the comment about packing it in John not me, if you don’t want questioning on such remarks don’t make them.

As for the fool remarks, I’ll not lower myself John, trying to keep the warnings to a minimum :D

Question all you want - my stance has always been if I feel something is not in the best interests of the club then I will object to it.

Under Venky’s there has been plenty of poor, badly timed decisions IMO, however hopefully they learn from their mistakes and we can move forwards (onwards and upwards and all that). I think it is a fair assumption to say we all want a successful club which we can be proud of (even though sometimes I do find myself questioning that assertion).

As for the remarks, the number of "spats" you get in says it all.....

You really don't recall the Man City game last year? Seriously. It's no wonder Kean is now seen as some kind of saviour if memories are this short.

In general, the whole comparison between Sam and Kean is getting old now. What we should be doing is looking forward and deciding if Kean is the right man to be in charge of the team next season. My views are fairly strongly on upgrading our manager, but that is really the only worthwhile debate at this point.

Well I'm glad you're not packing it in, maybe Keans doing something right then eh :tu:

I have no idea what you're talking about and I never mentioned Allardyce.

The point was about Kean and his positive spin, seemed to work in my book.

My original comments, which I said at the time were debatable, were in reference to Venky's.

So whats changed your mind John? most people still seem to hold the opinion that Venkys have done nothing so far to change the negative opinion of them?

My feelings on the manager have steadily improved with every game since the draw at Arsenal (the Everton game aside). We had a run of games where people thought we would be going down, but we actually got plenty of good results (compared to how people felt before these games).

Yes, Kean got us into this mess but he also got us out of it. He acheived the absolute minimum that a manager of our club NEEDS to acheive, ie: staying up. He's established a fairly good way of playing and mixed it in with hard work. He clearly has the players behind him and they appear to enjoy playing their football (look at recent interviews with Olsson and Hoilett).

I still feel like we have a rookie and I also wouldn;t say no to an upgrade, BUT it would have to be a DEFINITE upgrade. Rafa? Yes. Ranieri? Yes. Jol? Maybe. McClaren? No feckin way!!!

Otherwise, I think Kean deserves the chance to see what he can do in the transfer window and over the course of a pre-season and in the early season (say 10 games). If we aren't satisfied (but most of our fans never are, it appears) then get rid. And by that I mean being 14th or below after 10 games.

I wish I had a £1 for each time Kean and yourself say the word positive, Positivity is fine but the word now is used to such a degree it has little meaning other than looking at other positive statements, the Titanic was unsinkable, Comical Ali stating he was positive there were no allied troops in the City with shells exploding all around him, indeed, if you say the same things too many times, you lose the plot and in the dressing room, should he continue to keep using the word, it will have little or no impact!!

My mind has not changed however I have seen small signs that Venky's are making sensible major decisions (e.g. season ticket prices). I was not adamant in my view however would have probably thought they could have been a considerable rise, thumbs up from me and everyone else. Even though it is not neccesaarily a major thing, thought the voucher was a nice touch too - a step in the right direction.

I am still not convinced by them (or Kean for that matter) but Venky's said they are going to commuicate more with fans in the summer.

As I said, I just want to see decisions being made in the club's best interests - now that the season is over, it can be a time for reflection and hopefully we can look forward to better times ahead.

I like to point out the positives Kelbo, it enables blinkered posters to see it’s not all doom and gloom, they do struggle on their own you know. Just for the record, I want Kean out, this seems to have been lost along the way.

As some posters will probably have forgotten/dismissed, I did the same under Allardyce you know.

Can't argue with any of that, with you on all those points.

It's going to be a long, looooong summer. :(

oh yeah it will be.:rolleyes:

I think it is time we move on from the debate.

the owners have said that Kean will be manager next season and I think it is time to accept their choice.

Not all fans will agree with their choice but we has fans do not only agree who we would want as rovers manager. we all have different views.

I wouldn't want kean as manger but have now accept that he will be manager next season. So I will judge him on next season and on his transfers in and out.

I hope that the owners do this.

I agree with you about them made the right decisions for the club. Also hope that we can look forward to better times ahead.

They will make the right decisions

They will communicate with the fans and everybody will love them

They will stick by Kean, he will become a world beater

They will move to Lancashire

They will supply mega finds for transfers,

oh forgot to mention

All pigs watered and fed and ready to fly

You really are a prat aren't you, you talk the most nonsense out of anyone I've seen on any Rovers forum on the internet (yes that includes Vinjay) and you never bloody shut up. Approaching 6,000 idiotic contributions and I'm amazed there's still anyone around on here willing to put up with you, I certainly can't anymore.

Bit harsh b&w. I'm sure it's not intentional cos in Gav's world he's a well renowned football expert.

More or less my views as well. I think Venkies would have kept him on even if we had have gone down so I can't see any changes on the horizon.

Don't know what you mean :D

Roberts has been great in the run-in, but like alexanders points out "We desperately need a new striker"

Nothing wrong with giving praise where praise is due Matty.

You praise the manager with an A* yet you stated that you want to bin him now we are in the close season. Has the wind changed?

I think with a good pre season plus the addition of 2 or maybe 3 quality signings and the fact that Rochina and Formica will have had a full pre season especially Formica (chance to bulk up a bit), we should give Kean a chance to really show us what he can do without the added pressure of a relegation battle on his hands.

ralfino... BRFC along with about 14 other clubs are in a relegation battle from the first kick of every new season.

:!: If I've understood that correctly that is taking positive spin to a whole new level. Disregarding the fact that the relegation battle was Kean's making in the first place we got 6 points from the 5 remaining games (3 home and 2 away) following the Everton match. Do I really have to point out that we got 9 points from the first 5 matches under the previous manager? ..... and thats with a totally demoralised squad after we had been on a horrendous run under Ince of no wins in the previous 12 matches!

So which one is it Theno? On the one hand you clearly state that Rovers and 14 other clubs are in a relegation battle at the start of EVERY season, then you say Kean took us into a relegation battle...

You have taken revisionist history to another level recently, you really have. First the half time team talk vs Blackpool where Samba took charge and Kean was pushed aside and subsequently the team began playing the way they wanted (your version- reality is it did not happen). Then the "Venkys mob" (which again your words- you think that they have criminal links) would be putting up season ticket prices because they are here for publicity but now they would have hiked up prices if we were in the Championship... could go on.

Mystic Meg is losing her powers :P
