Nice little stat here, if only the first 45mins counted in every game throughout the season then we would have finished 4th this season.

That is a pleasant number. If only we could stretch it out to a full 90 minutes. :)

I wish he would talk less to the media and work quietly behind the scenes.

Managers and clubs have little choice these days even in close season.

I understand what you mean though, he could choose his words better.

Right. The petty squabbling, name calling, valueless ad-infinitum case-stating and attempted point scoring stops here or I'll be encouraging the mods to hand out lengthy posting bans regardless of how long you've been around or whether you're capable off adding good content as well as drivel.

BEHAVE !

We have enough fun stopping the board turning into mindless drivel during transfer season as it is without those who should know better making it worse.

As with a good neighbourhood watch scheme, the problem has merely been transferred elsewhere, namely the Tom Finn thread!

Although I'm worried about Kean being able to attract players to the club with him being very new to football management, I've got to say I've heard some glowing praise for him coming from inside the club. Praise where it's due it sounds like he's doing a very good job behind the scenes. I can actually see why Venky's are sticking by him.

I can only imagine that the reason a few people here are coming across as apologists is because they have had a similar insight. And also why Nicko has been so supportive of him. All the best to him I say.

And no, I haven't been paid off! :D

What sort of praise has he been getting?

I can't say anything else other than he's very well liked, contrary to some reports. With some of the stick I've posted on here I had to write something as I feel kind of bad about it now! Let's just say the guy is trying his best to make Rovers a good team and if that doesn't happen I can't place the blame at his door. Just me personally that is, I don't expect others to take my word for it. I just needed to clear my conscience a little bit

I now appreciate a lot more that some of the insiders who post stuff on here can only post tidbits. If I post any more I will be betraying the trust of someone who I respect highly.

Ps, there's no positive news in particular - just that I've discovered a lot of stories about Kean, are not true at all. And the guy's bending over backwards, that is all. Sorry if I led anyone to believe we were about to make a huge signing or something

Pps, I still reserve the right to criticize his substitutions and/or team selections ;)

Excellent post. I really do think that we all need to be more positive about our manager. I still believe that most of the negativity comes from the owners sort of lack of straightforwardness. These constant conundrums and their contradictive interviews really have planted that seed.

Let's ignore the fact hat he's been as contradictory as they have and that much of what he's said has either been spin or nonsense.

It would, of course, be a first for us to have a manager who spouts spin or nonsense.

He's a complete novice at interviews, as indeed he is at managing, so I've been inclined to cut him a little slack at how he comes over.

Good to hear something positive about him as he is likely going to be around for a while, even though 'well liked' will no doubt be interpreted as him being a complete pussy letting players doze off in deckchairs while he fetches them beers during training.

The "negativity" comes from the poor results on the football field and the awful style of play some of which is worse than anything Sam served up.

Let's see how he goes next season and see if he can carry on the apparent improvement seen in the last few matches of last season. Until then there's nothing to be "positive" about a manager who still appears to be out of his depth.

Booth, I would never believe that you'd been paid off. :)

And if you are hearing good things, that is reassuring.

Unfortunately, its results that count. Kean's 2010-2011 season, standing alone, was not good enough. So if they want to get some positive feelings going, they need to: 1) make some solid moves in the transfer market; and, 2) win more often this coming season.

Granted. :)

Credibility once lost is hard to recover. So the owners need to be positive in this transfer market. Hold onto our youth, strengthen our back four, add a hard nosed midfielder or two, and a couple of quality strikers.

That is the true test. Results are the only thing that count at the end of the day.

Which is why Venkys have to protect their credibility by buying smart this transfer season. Kean can't maintain our status with the existing squad, based on the results he's posted to date. We need forwards that can score and midfielders who can both protect the back four and get the ball to the forwards.

After feeling quite reassured myself, I'm now considering the difficult task he had in Sam's absence. It must have been difficult to try and implement your ethos with all the trouble, and the changes. The wheels were bound to come off, but thankfully they managed to get a few results at the end of the season. It still doesn't explain some strange decisions in the transfer market, and some strange decisions in the dugout.

I would still prefer a more experienced "name" manager as I think any reasonable Rovers fan would, but at least I now have some optimism if that doesn't happen. I just hope he can bring in the players, that's going to be the tough part.

Steve is improving and will turn out to be a good manager in much the same fashion as Mark Hughes and Chris Hughton did (buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz).

eerrrr no he wont,

hes a very good coach and its ability as a coach that kept us up(just), but he doesnt have the abilities you need to be a very good manager, yes he could be a very adequate manager but thats not good enough if we want to move forward.

i dont think he should be replaced just for the sake of it thiugh, we MUST have a very good replacement lined up, COME BACK SPARKY.

How can you be sure of that? People can learn how to be managers, happens with ex-players all the time. In fact I'd argue the transition from coach to manager would be easier than player to manager as you already know all the technical side of things. The difference with a manager is you have to:

1. Inspire the players

2. Make the big tactical decisions

3. Use the transfer market well.

I'm beginning to think Kean has finally cracked 1, is working on 2 and 3 all depends on whether Mrs D and the brothers Rao want to sign Ronaldinho again.

I admire your optimism but if Hughes comes back to Rovers I'll pay for your season ticket!

if its true that villa don't want Hughes, that only leaves chelsea at the moment without a manager and i think Chelsea will look overseas for their new manager, so they could be a chance that hughes might come back to ewood if the venkys finally realise that Kean is not up to the job!!!
