jim mk2 Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Drama queens If he'd have said "We've no chance of making the champions league places, ever" you'd all have been hammering him for a lack of ambition. He's the manager of Blackburn Rovers football club and that isn't going to change, I suggest you support the guy for now. Don't you think he would be better to say nothing rather than omake outlandish statements about the Champions League just to please his employers ? I support Rovers - not the manager. Unless it's Sam of course. Keep spinning GAV.

Amo Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 I remember Sparky saying he was aiming for Europe the season after he took over when we were close to the bottom of the league. At the time I thought no chance, then we signed Bellamy, Bentley etc.. and the rest is history. It changed the mentality of the whole club to the point that we expected a top 7 position because the manager demanded it. I'm not saying that this is going to happen next season but I think Kean is trying to change the mentality of the club to think big. Whether it will work or not we will have to wait and see. But as you say, Hughes was actually able to back it up. Kean likes to talk the talk but he's yet to walk the walk.

Kean has been talking the talk but if he fails to deliver in his first 10 games or so and it looks like we are going to have another relegation scrap then I reckon he will get sacked anyway. This un sackable thing is balls, if Venkys give him millions to spend and he blows it then he will take the blame. On the other hand he might lead us to europe next season and we can stick two fingers up at everyone who has been taking the pish for the last few months. Until we sign some players its impossible to say what we expect for next season. Good post rovers_rob
den Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Good post rovers_rob There's a huge difference between qualifying for the europa league - and the Champions league.

Wasn't he talking about the Jones transfer? and the usual suspects have pulled 1 line out of the entire interview to hammer him with? No heard the interview myself, but I think thats the case?

rovers_rob Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 But as you say, Hughes was actually able to back it up. Kean likes to talk the talk but he's yet to walk the walk. Yes Hughes was able to back it up but when he said he wanted to finish in europe we had finished 16th in the league (I think) so he couldn't back it up at the time. If he talks the talk and doesn't walk the walk then I have no doubt we will be looking for another manager after about 10 games. No excuses, he has a full pre season, money to spend and the full support of the owners. Over to you Mr Kean, lets see what you can do.

BangkokRover Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Roberts and benjani does not equal champions league add RSC if you like. We are a million miles away from the CL
Blue n White Rover Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Yep. That's what I wanted. I mean, they were the only two choices after all; say he's sure we'll be in the Champion's League, or say we have nothing to play for. I'm going to leave this conversation now it's descended to this level already. Which ever target Kean had said, many on here would have disputed it. Champions League - Never achievable Europa League - Not a strong enough squad£ Top 10 - We've spent £x million, we should be aiming for higher, Sam got us their with no money. Bottom half - no ambition Relegation battle - Sack him! Them are the sort of responses we would have seen.

It's treating the fans like they're numbskulls. It's one of the main reasons why I can't stick the guy.

Remember BFS never really had money to spend. Also make or break for all his signings.

howzat Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Anyone else sick of kean saying these are exciting times for the club. Remind me what was exciting about staying up on the last day and what's exciting about selling your best player.

Kean took us backwards and got us into a relegation battle. Also, different circumstances. Time was, a side like Everton could break into the CL. Since then, the likes of Spurs & City have had to spend stupid money to get there. Ambition and forward-thinking is fine, but it needs to be grounded.

It's treating the fans like they're numbskulls. It's one of the main reasons why I can't stick the guy. At some point could be any time whatsoever, at some point before either football or the existance of the human race comes to an end, so technically it's not ridiculous to say. He isn't treating the fans like numbskulls but many are behaving like numbskulls.
BuckyRover Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 you're just trying to defend the indefensible Blue n White Rover. it's ridiculous to say we'll be in the Champions League at some point. It's treating the fans like they're numbskulls. It's one of the main reasons why I can't stick the guy. "I would be more suited to Inter Milan or Real Madrid. "It wouldn't be a problem for me to manage those clubs because I would win the double or the league every time." "Give me Manchester United or Chelsea and I would do the same, it wouldn't be a problem. "It's not a problem to take me into the higher reaches of the Champions League or Premier League and would make my job a lot easier in winning it." Even experienced managers say stupid things. Kean's was off the cuff. The above was in a pre match press conference.

Remind me what was exciting about staying up on the last day and what's exciting about selling your best player. No, because I'm quite enjoying it. Absolutely no Rover wanted Phil to go, Kean, the Venky's even the tea lady I'd wager, and most certainly not myself. But it's not the first time we've lost a coveted player and it won't be the last. However, there's no point in weeping and wailing about it like a spurned lover, because, like Allardyce, Phil is now part of the past. Get over it. And if, as looks likely, Samba is off too, ditto. We've got some money to spend for once, let's enjoy the feeling, at least it won't be disappearing into the trouser pockets of the Trust.
XLM Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 Roberts and benjani does not equal champions league add RSC if you like. We are a million miles away from the CL Everton did it with James Beattie (who might actually have been injured for much of the season, can't quite remember) and Marcus Bent as their main 2 strikers. Not saying we could do it but it's a bit of a stupid comment, especially considering it's June.

vintageadidas Posted June 14, 2011 Posted June 14, 2011 I am really looking forward to next season, more so than under BS. Expect the unexpected. I was in the changing rooms yesterday and his notes, tactics against united are all still up - very detailed and well organised. Both pre and post match. BS's just had an arrow pointing to the opposition half (hoof) Wolves first half was the best football we have played for years.

Beattie scored once every 6 games Cheers BKR I am really looking forward to next season, more so than under BS. Expect the unexpected. How were the first 45 against Blackpool, the second 45 against WHU and the full 90 against Everton? Apart from the Arsenal result there is nothing to say we will finish any higher next season. Cheers BKR

Let people have hope Mr. BangkokRover. Except for four places or so, the only way is up! My link
