CrazyIvan Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 I don't know why people are battering Kean (and Venkys) over the statement of Champions League football in 3-4 seasons. That's obviously ambitious and a long-term plan. Is it achievable? Yes. You saying you don't think it is, is purely your opinion. If Kean and Venkys don't have ambitions to take this club onto another level, why the hell are they here? It might seem unrealistic in many people's eyes but that is no reason to abuse Kean or Venkys for showing some ambition.

The only people left moaning are the ones who won't be moved from either side. Let's all enjoy the Summer and move on Because no-one believes them. Don't speak for everyone.
greco Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Hang on, this is the problem isn't it? As far as I can see there's nothing so far to suggest they're going to put in more than the 5m per transfer window. The rest is coming from player sales. If Kean and Venky's are so confident that we can get to the champions league, then they should tell us how they're going to achieve it - tell us what the plan is. They don't have to be specific about the funds that are available. It will take hundreds of millions to get even close to the champions league. If that kind of money is available then it would give far more credibility if someone from Venky's were to communicate to the fans and the players that they can find massive funds and that they can compete financially with the richest clubs in England. So, on the one hand we have this kind of story - yet on the other we have 5m per transfer window and don't forget how Mrs D's position was when she bought the club. She said we could get there with 5m and a few loans. This is all bullsh1t and they deserve all the criticism they get. Personally, Kean wont even begin to get my support until he stops talking to the fans as though they're a bunch of 5 year olds. Some of us have been around BRFC a lot longer than he has. We know what it takes to reach the top of English football. He obviously doesn't. As for your last bit in bold, well I simply want the truth from them. terrific post. some fans definetly need to grasp, the concept of reality.

You've seen nothing to suggest that they're going to put in more than £5m per window? Do you not read the transfer thread? Nixon and BPF seem to think that we've been given a massive budget regardless of sales, and any sales will only add to the budget. I don't recall the old owners giving us too much insight to the clubs plans. It was generally 'maintain our PL status.' They never told us the strategy to do this, though over time it became clear; sell our best players for big money and then give the manager peanuts to replace them. And do you really need a strategy spelt out for how they plan on getting us into the Champions League? I imagine it'll revolve around 'spend money on players and improve the squad season by season.'
Mattyblue Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 nicko has said repeatedly that without player sales we will have 5million per window- an extra 5 if necessary. How on earth is that going to be enough for a top 4 finish? Just look at it rationally.

I intend to fly to the moon within 3-4 years, building my spaceship out of a fairy liquid bottle, some sticky back plastic and using self produced recycled methane as fuel. How ambitious am I???? The last time they stated their ambitions they claimed champions league with 5m a window and ended up surviving on the last day, actions are needed not hollow words.

I have no problem with Venky's, it was Kean that came out with these comments not them. It would have been slightly better if he had said 'European football' instead of 'Champions League'. The Europa League might be possible with some decent but at the same time sound investment and the media wouldn't have jumped on it. If Venky's are serious about wanting to achieve Champions League football it gives me some hope they might sack Kean sometime in the near future, I just can't see Kean meeting those expectations.

Given our new clubs previous history with words and resultant actions surely people should see that their words can no longer carry any weight? The old regime made Rovers what it is today a stable premier league club, one of only 4 to win the premier league. Why would we question their plans? Respect is earnt as the previous Walker regime had proven at Rovers, this lot haven't even been here one year and we are meant to display the same? Because what has happened in that year that dictates I should display any?
thenodrog Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 I see the Steve Kean bashing is still in full swing even though the season is over and as such he hasn't actually done anything wrong recently. Funny how some people only seem to remember our bad run and not our superb finish in the last 4 or 5 games as well. What do you put that down to Simon? Congratulations on spotting the sarcasm you absolute moron The spirit of TGM is alive and well still on the board I see.
thenodrog Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Indeed. We performed when it really mattered. The performances of the players improved at the end but lets be honest we got lucky. Sure we had a fine 45 mins v Wolves but our finest and most consistent defender through the final couple of months was the woodwork. ...... Hey thats a athought..... I wonder if Arsenal would buy our goals off us for 10m?
Majiball Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Superb run? 1 win in 5? Given his prior record I would say 1 in 5 was superb by his standards. I'm so looking forward to next season, possibly, aspiring to back to back wins next year, now that would be progress. Who knows in about 3-4 years we may even reach the dizzy height of 3-4 wins in a row, if fixtures are kind to us.

Majiball Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 The Jack Walker regime and the Walker Family regime were two completely different things. Are you seriously saying the two aren't highly linked?
Gav Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 How much time ? I would suggest to the end of this window is long enough because it has been categorically stated that £40 - £50m is available. It would be great if that happens but the owners don't realise to achieve their stated ambitions they would need to spend at least that every window for the next few years. Anything significantly less than £40m and they would be exposed as liars and frauds. In any case, they would be better splashing out money on a top-class manager before buying any players. A successful structure needs solid foundations. I agree with you fully, the end of the window will give clear indication of intention. But you can't put a figure on spend Jim, whilst Nicko is the only person with insider knowledge for me on this site, these figures shouldn’t been replied upon, many things can change in the course of the silly season, but we need to see significant investment to take the owners seriously.
thenodrog Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 For the sake of it? Kean has a long way to go, but to suggest that the end of last season didn't mark a massive step in the right direction would be ridiculous. I like the way he's trying to play, and he's done just enough to have earned a crack at a full pre season, to bring in his own players, and to show us what he can do. You have to accept that some people are behind the manager, and some people have the brain span to be able to admit when they might be wrong. I was pleased with the way Kean started, but I wanted him sacked after the run of eleven games without a win. However, he finished very well, and the most encouraging sign was the fact that the players were clearly 120% behind him. Getting this kind of support from the players is tough for any manager at any level. Post any @#/? like 'the players ignored his team talks and did it all themselves' and it will fall on deaf ears; just as it deserves to. Complete and utter rubbish. I don't know where to start with that. Suffice to say that you are showing full support to a man that you would have sacked outright two months ago if your name had been Desai. Why on earth would anybody place any value in your opinions now? You're just as likely to do a complete about face by mid sept.
braddock Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 The spirit of TGM is alive and well still on the board I see. Suggesting I've scored an own goal when it's you who doesn't understand the obvious deserves to be pointed out. If you unsuccessfully try to discredit me, I shall let you know about it. You only seem to breed negativity so you can have some back.
greco Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 still no one able to prove, that kean was offered a job at chelsea..? ive only seen articles, where he claims it himself.

Nobody is allowed to change their opinion based on the evidence of what they see. They have to stick to their guns and never admit they are wrong. Maybe this explains your own stance noddy?
thenodrog Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 I don't think Spurs have spent hundreds of millions Jim, but I agree they seem to have spent heavily, but it would be interesting to see the net spend, they’ve recouped plenty also. He said Spurs spent heavily. This excellent site was posted on here yesterday and backs it up. (Shows Wenger in a good light too.) http://www.transferleague.co.uk/

Do you really want to get into a full argument? We can do if you like, I'm much better at it than you are.
PAFELL Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Are you seriously saying the two aren't highly linked? Yes there is a link. But it broke when Jack died. Jack liked football, but his family didn't. Apart from that of course they are linked.

Could you make a six seater and take Crazy Ivan and his oppo's with you Maj? Superb run? 1 win in 5? Top four form do you reckon Matty?
