  1. 1. Should Steve Kean stay or go

Recommended Posts

With sensible investment on the part of Venkys and with a decent manager at the helm we should be able to enjoy mid-table security and look for a decent cup run but anything more is still a big ask.

We did that without money to spend Parson, surely we should be looking a little higher with a bigger budget?

Fat head implied that he was stabbed in the back because an overinflated ego of gargantuan proportions like his cannot ever contemplate being sacked because he's a dour long ball merchant who's style could send a glass eye to sleep ;)

Not wanting to turn this into an Allardyce thread, but I was unfortunate enough to hear his press conference whilst having my tea the other day:

“I’ve given up my premiership status to come to West Ham”!

What bleeding premiership status? You were on the doal!

I agree, but the top 4? Something the Arabs have spent an absolute fortune on at Citeh to achieve?

Lets walk before we can run.

Every trace of the previous regime is gone, who's to say we can still achieve 'the Norm' without the team that did it?

This is a new regime, looking at bringing better players in, we SHOULD be looking higher shouldn't we? Maybe not top 4, but nothing wrong with ambition in my book.

I think the next few weeks will be interesting to say the least, with one of Europe’s hottest goal scorers on the radar, bringing him in would setout the clubs intentions, and put us on the map, let’s hope Kean can pull this off.

Exciting times.

Please don't tell me that saint Kean is now being compared to Jack? And people wonder why we have become such a joke to some. For any manager, outside of the top five or six clubs, to talk about Champions League is a joke.

Yes I am comparing Keans comments to Jacks. How dare I eh? :glare:

The WHOLE WORLD laughed, not just ginger and scotch gobshites on Talkcrap, at Jack when he said he was going to turn a SECOND DIVISION team languishing in the bottom half of the table into Football League Champions within 5 years......and he did it with a year to spare.

Just like with Jack the media muppets are laughing at Kean. I am in no way saying we are going to achieve what Kean claims, but there is nothing wrong with setting goals in life. Set the ambition bar to 'bare minimum' and you are more likely to fail.

There's something very wrong in promising to do what you can't do. The media laughed at Jack, but the fans didn't. The fans are laughing at Kean though - and rightly so.

Did Kean promise or just offer his hopes?

Why doesn't he just shut up or offer targets that are realistic? Then we won't be such a laughing stock.

Even hoping for Champions League is laughable at this time.

New doesn't mean they are as capable as what we had before. So that means we have no idea if they can achieve mid-table, and that's before I drag up the stat's. Signing players means absolutely bugger all if we don't have a strong team all over the background to get the best out of them and realise our stated ambitions. Ambition for me is great, but do they have the ability to back-up their ambitions? Given the last 10 months I favour 'no' as the answer. Words are cheap, actions mean everything, I'm still waiting and I'll wager I still will be in 3 years.

don't forget not that long ago spurs were relegation fodder even with a very expensive team, proving money is not enough.

Samba and Jones our two best players by a country mile are gone or leaving, forgive me if I don't get excited by that or the sorry saga surrounding it. I would ask where our Director of football is? They have had 10 months to recruit, perhaps it's not desired, who knows but no other club has taken that long to fill it's required job roles. That's the key role at present we need to fill and if being honest I'd rather a performance director as they are all about getting the back-rooms teams sorted and function collectively.

Which just goes to show you shouldn't judge anyone just yet.

The manager needs judging after 10 games of the new season when he’s hopefully got his players on the books and a pre-season under his belt.

Venkys should be judged at the start of the season, when funds have been spent and new appointments have hopefully been made.

Lets wait and see.

What exactly are you arguing?

That Kean was not offered the Assistant Coaches job at Chelsea? Well we have Steve Kean saying and it and the Chairman of Coventry City supporting that. You asked me to provide evidence there it is.

Now do you have ONE shred of evidence ANYWHERE that disproves the above? Ironic you are claiming that I am using my 'spidey' senses when in fact your entire argument is based on guesswork and you have created a narrative that Mr Andersen would be proud of

Occam's razor and all that.

your first question does come of as stupid, as you qouted me..

why would i need proof, when you dont.?

the funny thing is, that i on purpose wrote my posts, on the same basis as yours, without solid proof to back it up. So calling my point of view fictional, is actually labelling yours, exactly the same.

youve actually managed, to defeat yourself in a debate.

WERE you surprised by Steve Kean's suggestion that Blackburn Rovers will secure a Champions League place in the next three or four seasons?

SO what about last season, that never happened?

I'm not laughing at Kean, Den?

I like his ambition, much better than the usual "survival is success" line that most managers role out each and every season.

You can make up your own mind on whats possible and what isn't, so can the Roas, and actions speak louder than words, so lets see what happens.

Yup.

As for laughing stock references, who really cares what other teams think? It's only embarrassing if you agree with them, but when you actually read the comments and take them in the way they are meant to be taken you soon come to realise that there is nothing to be embarrassed about. You can also maybe admire his ambition.

We just have to agree to disagree as for me they have had 10 months and nothing they have done gives me any hope.

There latest ploy is to throw money at it and given the quality of people involved in it all, the risk is great. Lets say this doesn't work out and we spunk 40-50 million and get nowhere??? What happens next? Sack Kean and get someone else and give him another 50 million??? doubtful given their we have already spent 3 years funds in one season comment.

You see the 10 months for me shows quite clearly they are struggling and making bad choices, yet I don't see them being put right. RSC, flopped, formica now a shadow, Rochina we'll see and Jones did alright, so lets give them 50 million to spunk and the problem is obviously not enough money. Mmmm mid-table for the last several and some serious cup runs with peanuts to spend prove it's not the be all and end all.

You say wait and see, I say I've seen 10 months worth, football is about as forgiving as a woman scorned. If they were rectifying their mistakes I'd be more positive, but they are not are they? They are just making more.

As an aside, doesn't it show how much football has changed (for the worse), that the mere suggestion that a normal sized, proper football club, one that has rarely been out of the Premier League since it started and that pays absolute fortunes to its players could finish FOURTH should reduce the media to laughter.

Farce of a league.

Farce of a league.

Farce it maybe but it is predictable. Man City & spurs show exactly what it takes to break into that section of the league, 100's of millions of pounds just ask Villa. Everton who always came close slowly slowly building did it once in about 10 years, Liverpool fell like a stone with the wrong man in charge. These clubs highlight just what it takes to achieve these ambitions and the small changes that can ruin everything you had before.

Ambition is fine and having aspirations like that OK, but everyone knows a show like Talksport will focus on it and ridicule, the sheep then follow. Anyone with some savvy would know this, you only have to look at what happened last time it was mentioned by a Rovers owner. So we say it again after surviving on the last day, very astute. If those are the private ambitions fine, but previous history showed how they would be received and ridiculed, so statements of intent are needed and that means signing players to match those ambitions, but instead we see Jones gone and Samba next our two best players, with no incomings of any quality to date. Hardly the actions of a club chasing the champions league in 3 years time, as that's how long it took City and the best part of a billion quid to break in.

not all fans are laughing at kean. i remember when jack 1st came on the scene many fans were sceptical.. as to the scale of his ambitions and how much he would invest.

(yes he funded transfers and ground redevelopments in the 1990-91 season)

BUT it was only after he replaced don mackay with kenny dalgish that the majority of fans took his ambitions seriously.

remembering discussions with fans and mates at the time.. majority believed what the papers and media said about our over ambitious transfer targets.

rovers fans MAYBE trusted jack a lot more in the early days, because he local, known and well respected.. parallel can definetly be drawn with our new owners and fans views.

What never happened???

RELEGATION NEVER HAPPENED! :P

To be honest Majiball nothing will change your mind, you've made it up and thats that by the sounds of things.

I'm intrigued by this closed season and transfers, more so that I’ve been for years.

I can see what Venkys are trying to achieve, but they're new to this business and are bound to make mistakes.

I can see the manager wants to play attacking, attractive football, but he's a rookie manager and is bound to make mistakes.

Maybe I’ll look a fool in the coming months for backing both, time will tell.

On a personal note I’m enjoying being a fan again, and that at least is something of a bonus after the past couple of seasons.
