  1. 1. Should Steve Kean stay or go

Recommended Posts

For anyone who cares, there is an interview with Steve Kean on SSN - talks about Samba, Diouf and Benjani - nothing that interesting is said. Presume it is from HK.

Hi John. I couldn't find it. Does anyone have a link?

Edit : OK found it.

I must say, I disagree with thenodrog who said that Kean was looking 10 years older. After all the supposed turmoil down at Ewood he looks remarkably relaxed I reckon. If he can hold it together while the rest of the club collapses around him, we may well yet owe him a debt of gratitude.

Kean has said he has a sizeable budget just a few days ago. He has dismissed the money problem rumours. Only time will tell if he is right

Wow your a twitter machine, thanks for the updates really appreciate it..

Old news to be fair, the rao's said that kean is here "forever" back in jan, even though they contridict themselves all the time this is the one statement they will remain consistant with, for the simple reason, he is a yes man.

Can we not get kean a zippy costume, then when he started spouting that we're going to be in the champions league in 3 to 4 years time someone could lean over and zip his mouth shut!!

He's been saying it again. Direct quotes in the guardian. Starts off saying Europe in that time and then ends up saying Phil jones went as he wanted champions league football and we won't be able to offer him that yet but in 3-4 years time we would.

I know it's not a popular opinion but I like his optimism to a degree but he does go too far with it.

I hope he can grow to be a success here but will need backing from above for that to happen.

There's still a chance that on field the future could be bright, we are a few players short and Hoilett needs signing ASAP but you never know.

Kean is a dodgy talker, he is so over the top, I have bever really heard a manager like it, they are normally very real or defensive trying to protect themselves.

Funny enough I think people in the football world really fall for it with Kean, maybe the blind optimism is so rare that people can;t see it for what it is, a rookie claiming he can achieve champion league football.

Ofcourse we don't know just how much money Venkys are going to inject, maybe Kean knows something we don't because it will have to be a lot.

At the end of the day he can;'t run anywhere come August to October. He'll be under pressure to be maintaining a top 12 status at least.

Here we go folks, it's Champions League time again.

I had hoped that Kean had learned his lesson about making ridiculous statements, but obviously not. I am all for optimism but this kinda stuff is ridiculous given what has happened this summer. Kean just continues to lose credibility.

he lacks common sense, when claiming champions league as a possibility. There is nothing wrong with ambitions and optimism, but at some point they too need a touch of reality.

A very succesfull danish sportsman once wrote, that when you set yourself a goal, you would be wise to set the bar, so the goal is reachable. Reaching your goal, could then be classified as a succes and something you could build upon.

Perhaps i should send kean a copy of his book.

I think we should give him a chance. He's had a full pre-season so 12 games should suffice.

I hate how he doesnt have a go at refs. He's not even honest on the subject he keeps going on about they have a tough job etc.

The first time it was fine but but towards the end of last season we were on the wrong end of plenty of decisions and he kept protecting the refs.

Expect to see much more of this.

I will also say - what would you want him to say?

We'll be in a relegation battle in 4 years time, or in the Championship ??

He wants to build, let's see what happens. No doubt he will still be here then whether we do make the CL or have back to back relegations!

What a bell-end.

I think what annoys me most is that this is the kind of stuff he'll be saying the owners and, in their naivety, they'll be falling for it hook, line and sinker.

Just shut up, admit that you've got everything to prove & learn and get on with it.

If you really are up to the job, it'll show by Xmas.

Hopefully by then it won't be too late for another Big Sam-style rescue job.

If I had a choice between hearing what Kean said and say Souness or Allardyce attempting to lower expectations by saying "the target is survival" every close season I'd take what Kean says every time.

If you set your sights high and fail, it's not necessarily a disaster. If you set them too low and don't meet them ,it is.

Anyhow what he says is largely irrelevant. If he fails to deliver results wise, he'll be out of a job no matter what he has said. If he does deliver results, I'm personally not overly bothered what he says.

You don't live in the real world.

Souness wasn't my favourite manager but at least he was realistic while with Sam I stand to be corrected but I cannot recall him saying "the target is survival" - although he was entitled to do so considering the position Rovers were in when he took over.

Kean has again made himself and the club look foolish with his latest remarks - I thought you had more sense than to agree with him.

Edited to please an over-zealous moderator.

Your forgetting that it's not just about what they say is it? What they say and what they do is what you need to look at.

Souness got us a promotion and won us a cup but tempered expectations beyond that, Hughes had us pushing for Europe and talked about pushing further. Both were fair enough.

Kean dragged us down the league, got done for drink driving, has let our best player run his contract down and still hasn't signed anyone, yet is talking about getting in the Champions League. Oh, and our best board and backroom staff have all left under his regime but don't put you off wearing those blinkers!

Is that the only choice?

Blimey jim, I had to double check the date of that article. I could have sworn that I read the same thing before the window opened. At least the guy is consistent!

Oh! hang on - maybe nothing has happened since then? Maybe all the doom and gloom was an illusion?

Nobody wanted to buy the club? Players are not embarrassed to be associated with the club? We do have money to spend? The manager is being backed by the owners? The bank aren't calling the bailiffs in? We will have some decent new players before the big kick-off?

You don't mean to tell me that I've wasted all these hours reading about how the sky is gonna fall in?

Dammit!
