  1. 1. Should Steve Kean stay or go

Recommended Posts

I think we are between the rock and the hard place with regard to the manager. The form record for the last 6 games would point to certain relegation. Having taken 2 points from the last six games we now need to find another 8 points from the remaining eight games to give us a hope of survival. Since Kean took over in mid-December we have won only three League games and two were against a WBA side on the brink of losing their manager and one against a Liverpool team who were also about to sack their manager. In terms of results and performances there is no doubt that Kean is out of his depth in the Premier League. I will be delighted when he leaves and yet, if he went tomorrow who, in their right mind, would want this job?

I honestly believe that sticking with Kean will see us relegated at the end of the season and yet, with hand on heart, can anyone suggest a name who could come in and get the players organized and performing well enough to get those all important eight points or so?

It is still unclear if Venkys have the type of money required to fund a Premier League club. Indeed, we have no idea what their long term plans are for the club. I would suspect that the penny might have finally dropped for Mrs. Desai that owning a Premier League club is a costly business and one that is a continual drain on resources. Do they have the money or the stomach for the long term? Do they realise how relegation will simply drain away even more money and give them very little in the way of publicity in return. Do they actually want to own a Championship club? Indeed, can they actually afford to own a Premier League club?

I suspect that money will be the deciding factor with regard to Steve Kean. If we survive then I have no doubt he will remain in post. If we are relegated I suspect that Venkys will lose any interest in the club and allow Kean to continue - it will be cheaper than sacking him - while they look to make what they can from selling players before retreating to India with the parachute money.

Good post, you put into words my thinking on this issue. How long will the chicken chokers stick around when the ###### hits the fan ? My betting would be they'll take the money and run.

I doubt there are many Kean supporters left to be fair... but, realistically, what chances do we think there are of him getting the boot? 0%?

I'm not sure there ever were any were there? I'd never heard of him until he was appointed, tho I had wondered who the bald bloke was on the bench.

He won;t get the boot now - we just have to hope we have the players who have the desire

The one bright note is that after that 2nd half performance it appears Kean has not lost the dressing room and the players seem to be behind him.

I am however worried, really worried but think we will survive but only just I really hope we dont need any points going to Wolves on the last game of the season

I'm not too sure about the dressing room to be honest. Seemed to me that the players just sacked the 1st half tactics off completely and reverted to hoof ball in the 2nd half. After all, both our goals came from that very tactic.

The question is, did that change of tactic come from Kean, or the players themselves?

Too long now Rovers fans have been undecided about the manager, the fans as a whole find it hard to agree on one thing but when it's your manager your always going to have trouble.

Since Hughes we have had the abomination that was Ince and then the controversial Allardyce, now its its the coach come boss who is Kean, we need a manager and we need one fast.

As people have noticed today the players resorted to route one Allardyce tactics today in the second half which got us the point, did Kean have anything to do with it or did the players do what was needed.

I'm not sure a change in manager at this stage in the season will do us good but I dont think it will do us any harm, the owners have'nt got a clue with talks of Maradonna and players like Ronaldinho we can but worry, but one thing is for sure with preformances like today we are one of the worst teams in the league and our form says the same.

Please Venky's pony up the cash and get a us a decent manager who can get the best out of our players and someone who is realistic to our position.

We as fans have been devided for far too long, unite us so we can roar the blue and white halves to safety this season, we like security here and talks of fifth and sixth are very unrealistic and flair players like Formica must be brought in during the summer when we have time to work with them.

Do yourselves a favour and the fans, leave the football decisions to guys in the know like the John Williams who you shoehorned out of the club, they have more experience than you will ever know, you like 30 + million a year? Well employ a manager who will get it for you.

Kean looked nervous and very unsure of himself on MoD - a different man to the cocksure one interviewed after the Liverpool match. For his and Rovers' sake and I hope he can turn this round but luck is not going our way either at present - a sure sign of a team in trouble.

The more I see and hear of Steve Kean, the more I am convinced that this is really Brian Laws in disguise.

Our season is panning out uncannily like Burnley's did last season and we know where they ended-up.

Venkys - PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, end the madness and axe this chump.

He always seems really nervous to me, like he's trying to get his words out as fast as he possibly can.

I don't really care how he interviews though tbf, all I want is results on the pitch and we all know he's not the man for that. Problem is it's probably too late to change now.

If Kean does stay to the season end, he will have cost the people who appointed him their £50m.

That is quiet right philipl but can you honestly see him leaving now?

Of course he is nervous he may have no clue as a manager but he cant be so stupid not know we are are in deep doo doo.

Was really bizzare how no mass anti-Kean chants were started today. His core support has always been amongst people who hated Allardyce but surely even these fans now must realise he is now 100%, guaranteed, without question, taking us down. It is for the good of the club if people unite to force him out but his biggest critics left at half-time and everyone else stood/sat there in inept silence. The only thing I can think of is if people are confused whether they should be chanting anti-Venkys or anti-Kean. In the long term its Venkys, in the short term its Kean and if hes not sacked before Arsenal then we are down. I hope the fans decide to go out with a roar of anger against the people who have led us to this situation rather than the dissapointingly mute acceptance seen today.

When was there a point to vent any anger towards the manager - not during the game, because we were trying to encourage the team at the start and then we were so shocked by going 2 games down that nobody said anything. At the end of the match we'd just scored a last minute equaliser and wanted quite rightly to let the players know that ultimately they had sorted themselves and we were happy with their desire to put things right. Then we left the ground and went home. Perhaps at that point we could have all hung around and protested in one of those demonstrations we've seen at St James's park where they chant "Sack the Board" etc but then we've laughed at plenty of those in the past. If we thought protesting would do any good I'm sure some would have done it but when your owners are thousands of miles away and the people who report to them probably only tell them what they want to hear it's hard to protest. They won't sack Kean anyway unless someone who has their trust can get them to see that they need to, and who do they trust - Steve Kean, it would appear.

Good post gumboots. I expected protest and was really shocked by the dumb, as in silent, acceptance of the 0-2 scoreline. Sadly though the people accepting the situation are right, there is nothing we can do.

My only thought is now the table is so tight a few teams are going to get lucky. I hope one is Rovers.

I think I posted something similar a few days back. The frightening truth, I feel, is the answers to those points are all negative.

If we are relegated there may not be anything to watch in the Championship. There are plenty of reasons to believe the Raos will simply shut up shop and disappear.

I'm not a Kean man by any stretch - I'd prefer him gone, but I was more angry with Howard Webb than Kean when we were 2-0 down. We had done all the attacking and it was neither a penalty nor a free kick that led to the 2 goals.

I wouldn't have started Diouf or Emerton, but I thought Kean's substitutions weren't too bad.

I'd prefer Kean gone, irrespective of what league we are in next year, but I doubt the owners will dispose of him at this point and Ithink some perspective is needed today.

Dont worry Philip, they will recoupe their £50m in the summer, selling players.

I'll leave it to the members of the board to make budget estimates on player value and agent % in a summer clear out.
