Gav Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Well we know that GAV, but was he not suggesting that we would be up there in the next few years? Up where

philipl Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 This video confirms that Kean has gained about a stone since last season, and he can also now count to six. What a little biscuit barrel!
tonyoz Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 He also never mentioned champions league in his interview, I'd go as far as to say he never meant champions league in his interview at the back end of last season either. Regardless of that, I’d much rather hear him striving for Europe rather than the usual survival line thrown out time and time again. He's got a hard enough job as it is with those idiots running the club and telling him porkies week after week, we should back our manager, not hammer in at every opportunity. Funnily enough I just re-listened to that interview to check what he did say and I think there is little doubt that it was just a clumsy answer. He has certainly had cause to regret it! I notice that the Guardian and several tabloids are repeating the claim that Kean has promised CL football in his recent interview. He did no such thing - he said that European football in 3 or 4 years is achievable. I think it is wise to stick with the good old LT (with all its faults) if you want a balanced view.
thenodrog Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I'm not sure what that brings to this debate, Theno. Humour dave. Is that such an alien concept down there?
dave birch Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Humour dave. Is that such an alien concept down there? If you think that that vid is funny, theno, you've got a problem. Should we start taking the p1ss out of rangas?
John Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Steve Kean's Blackburn recruitment drive needs action, not words
Guest Rovers4Good Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Did anyone read the Daily Mirror today? There is a piece on page 62 Kean Sets Sights on Euro Spot. Come on is he deluded. He goes on to say there is no reason why we should be able to sustain a top half finish and build on that which in my eyes means Champions League. This guy is starting to really get on my wik and i must say i love the enthusiasm to keep the fans onside but this really is getting into cloud cookoo land
PAFELL Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Kean has the Rao family all around him in HK so he is simply telling them what he thinks they want to hear. What a shining example of integrity. Not using many subs today was bad in my opinion. Taking into account the heat etc.
Mattyblue Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Not using many subs today was bad in my opinion. Taking into account the heat etc. Can't say I'm fussed. It got 90 mins in for most of them and he can play a pretty much different XI in the next game.
Kamy100 Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 This is what happens when you make daft comments - Ridicule
howzat Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 This is what happens when you make daft comments - Ridicule Don't care its talkshite they hate all the smaller clubs. is'nt this old news anyway i think kean said the other day they were targeting european football within 4 years although that looks a long way off at the minute.
PAFELL Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 This is what happens when you make daft comments - Ridicule I think his days are numbered anyway. Hope he is gone after this hong kong trip. Don't think venkys will be happy if Rovers finish bottom in this tourmanent.
John Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I agree with most of the Gurdian article you can be ambitious but what is he basing his (so called) ambitions on? Is it his ability as a manager, or the ability for us to spend £50 million year to challenge for the Champions League (obviously we wont spend this).
chris Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 The possibilities I see are: 1) Kean knows he is going to fail and hit a run like last season and will never make the champion league and he is buying time and collecting as much money from his wage as possible because he will never get such a well paid job again. he really doesn't believev in himself and is putting on a front. 2) Venkys are planning to invest some serious cash. He will have enough money to form a strong squad, we are talking at least 20-30 million investment every summer. 3) Kean is actually mentally deluded, boarder line insane. 4) Kean really is actually a genius although failed in three assistant managers positions was never really given a chance. He will keep finding players for 2 or 3 million and turn them into stars. Should have a good idea of the likely answer by October.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Championsleague football Stevo?....... puddled.
Ferrit Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 The guy is literally deluded. It's no wonder we get ripped a new one when our manager is coming out with statements like that. If we are in the Champions League in 4 years, i'll show my rear in Woolies window.
LeChuck Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I honestly don't think Kean is deluded because I don't think he believes the things he is saying. Venky's want Champions League football on a shoestring. They want a manager that believes this is possible. Kean has to say things like this to hang on to his job - it's how he got it in the first place. Kean has nothing to lose really. He wouldn't get a managerial position elsewhere so he might as well do everything he can to hang on to the one he's got.

chris Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Yep! If he can stick it for the next couple of years he is set up for life. If he can last a few years then he will be doing decent job surely He has already taken us to the boarder of relegation, Venkys will not tolerate another flop season.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Anyone else think he's eaten a few too many pork pies since last season?

I'd like to hear some of these 'searching' questions he put to the owners. "Nice jewellery Mr Balaji Sir, where did you get it from?" More Lorraine Kelly than Jeremy Paxman I would wager.
brian nelsen Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 What do any of us know really. I personally prefer a manager that sets his priorities high. But a few of us have been saying that for a bit and just get shot down. Who cares. Sod off you negative plonks. If Steve Kean feels he can get us into Europe in 4 years, then I say, go for it. Fed up of all the no we won'ts and no we can'ts. Come back at me with loads of negative pap. Don't care.

Of course we COULD get into 'Europe', we get a decent run in the cups, or we end up 6th/7th after a few years of decent investment, we would be in with a shout. But oh no, Keano believes we arent 'quite at Champions League level', but soon though! Without City esque spending it will NEVER happen, I know it, you know it, he knows it. So don't say it!

I'd like to agree with you on that, but sadly Venky's blind faith means it's impossible. His 6 month spell last year led us to the brink of relegation with a mid-table squad and saw us have our worst run of form in over 20-odd years - and the Venky's still back him relentlessly.
