  1. 1. Should Steve Kean stay or go

Recommended Posts

I know it's a bit tiresome to remind everybody but, in the Guardian article, Kean did not hint, suggest or promise that we would be in the Champions League next season or any other season. His goal is a top half place next season and maybe a European place in 3 or 4 seasons will be achievable.

Chinese whispers and all that stuff.

Generally this was an opinion held by some season ticket holders who pay Hard earned money to go to ewood, who found hoof ball to be the most dull, un entertaining drivel which made going to our beloved rovers a chore.

Saturdays were great  , yes we could win, but Christ it would be painful to be there fo 90 min.

Then there were those that mock those that moaned about bfs and hoof ball, but unsurprisingly,

A lot of them were not paying week in week out to watch that sh@te, as they watch on streams or checked messageboards etc.

Funny how the crowds never dropped though, isnt it?

I remember walking up Bolton Road after a hard fought victory feeling very happy, in fact. Don't remember that feeling much at the back end of last season though.

Oh wait, yes. Once.

I think Saturday will be a big test for Kean. Bit of a lose-lose fixture for him really, unless we score at least a couple - and win.

You can't let that stop the anti Kean brigade though tonyoz ;)

"Phil wants to play Champions League football now and we're not at that level," Kean said.

"I'm sure we will be in the coming years, and we gave it a real good try and made him a fantastic offer, but I understand why he wants to go now.

So that's not a hint of CL? You often put words in the mouth of our last manager, but there it is in black and white.

Not really. Not when it cost less to see the likes of Arsenal, Manyoo, Chelsea and City for less than a Stanley season ticket.

Well it is really, as the price isn't an issue if people just don't want to go. Look at the loss of ST sales this summer- still cheap.

I suppose the attraction of cheap season tickets is a topic for another thread. That said if you truly believe that there was not a significant proportion (probably a majority) of Rovers supporters who hated the football served up by Allardyce then I'd have to say that you are wrong.

I'm not wrong, I would say about a third just hated the bloke, a third were not enamoured with the style but got on with it as he got results and a third (like me) simply enjoyed winning football matches and the club's stability.

Fair 'nuff. I'd disagree with your figures but each to their own. I took a pragmatic view of his tenure. He was about the only manager who could have kept us up with the Trust in charge. I could just about stomach some of the prosaic fare that was served up by way of survival but jesus, it was purgatory at times.

“Both the Rao brothers were here and we’ll see them at the hotel tonight to have a chat. It was a positive day – we had more shots than Villa." Says Kean

Even if we had lost 7-1 Kean would have turned it into a positive day.

Reality its a disappointing day we lost again and didn't score, obviously need players, but we can take a few positives e.g. Formica.

You reckon chris? I'm always ready to slate Keano, but it's pre season, they did ok and no injries picked up.

Wait for Wolves.

Maybe, or maybe I'm just worried this is the start of things to come, Kean drove me mad last season.

Results business Kean, results please.

Wasn't mentioned

No way. That was certainly not reflected in numerous polls when the Venkey mob axed SA matty. The vast majority thought it was wrong and that was before the 3rd team coach and brown nosed Kentaro boy was named as his long term successor. I'd love to know how the voting would have looked if we had been informed that Kean was the long term successor to Sam at the time his sacking was announced.

Not the prettiest football and in fairness it was never going to be given our circunstances but the worst games last season by far were those under Kean..... Even with the benefit of 3 signings. If Allardyce had sent out the team and formation that Kean and Jensen did against NUFC then I'd have wanted him sacked too.

Does it really matter what Kean says about the Champions League or whether we are going to win the World Cup 24 times on the trot? The only thing that matters at the moment is the Wolves match and then every other game from then on. If we a languishing at the foot of the table he's out, if we are rinding relatively high and looking good for it then we will all breathe a collective sigh of relief

If you had asked them prior to the sacking you'd have had a different reaction to his management.
