braddock Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 No one would give a toss about Big Sam if Venky's had hired a proven manager. This also.

den Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 No one would give a toss about Big Sam if Venky's had hired a proven manager. The majority didn't care who we got Topman, because they were happy to "sack him in the summer" - even without a replacement. Only since, did they see the gamble backfire.
Amo Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 The majority didn't care who we got Topman, because they were happy to "sack him in the summer" - even without a replacement. Only since, did they see the gamble backfire. He wouldn't have been sacked in the summer, Den. His contract was up, which made it even more ludicrous, as it not only disrupted our season but saddled ourselves with a needless compo package. In the summer, Venky's could evaluate where we stood and take advantage of post/pre-season to build a new managerial team. Plenty of managers on the market who could do a good job. Kean/Venky's are just furthering the myth of Allardyce with their own incompetence, tis all.
MarkBRFC71 Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 There was plenty. The problem was the timing, not the act. Absolutely spot on. I'd say 90% of the 20 or season ticket holders I know were at best not bothered if he got sacked, and at least a third were just plain fed up and wanted rid. No one would give a toss about Big Sam if Venky's had hired a proven manager. And there's the rub. We replaced an average manager with a cone monitor.
Mattyblue Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Absolutely spot on. I'd say 90% of the 20 or season ticket holders I know were at best not bothered if he got sacked, and at least a third wanted rid. See it all depends on who you know, doesnt it? The night of the sacking my phone didn't stop with people FURIOUS, at that stage there were rumblings about Jol and Steve Kean was just a twinkle in Jerome Anderson's eye, but they still thought it was a shocking decision. Your mates thought different, game of opinions and all that.
SD4E Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Exactly. Thats SD4E's daft and inaccurate opinion trumped good and proper. Daft and inaccurate opinion... Wow thats some irony coming from you That time coincided with the cheapest season tickets rovers had ever offered, remarkable 3 for 20 deals etc but clearly that had absolutely no impact on crowds
Mattyblue Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 So why is the first noticable decrease in ST sales hapenning AFTER the era of hoofball?
braddock Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 So why is the first noticable decrease in ST sales hapenning AFTER the era of hoofball? I imagine disillusionment at the ownership. Not because Allardyce himself isn't here.
SD4E Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 So why is the first noticable decrease in ST sales hapenning AFTER the era of hoofball? Because the novelty and attraction of the cheap tickets wears off. You drop your prices, you pick up lots of new customers. You Keep your prices low, and people get used to it,, and it becomes the norm. The more fair weather fans attracted by it initially don't have the inbuilt loyalty and drive to go to ewood each week, and some drop off. That along with new Indian owners who are constantly tripping themselves up, while the fans dont feel any connection to the direction the club seems to be going in, means lower crowds.
Mattyblue Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 I would agree with that, however my point being Venky's/Kean have put off many more than the Slug ever did.
braddock Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 I would agree with that, however my point being Venky's/Kean have put off many more than the Slug ever did. And my point is that I'm glad Allardyce was sacked, glad he's at West Ham, and glad he's not here under Venky's as I'm not a fan of his big money signings on the whole. Not that him and Venky's were compatible, which may indeed be to his credit as well as his plight.
Kelbo Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 I imagine disillusionment at the ownership. Not because Allardyce himself isn't here. No, because Kean and Venkys are here!!
braddock Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 No, because Kean and Venkys are here!! So not because of a lack of Allardyce.
cruz Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 When I read 'proven manager' I read it as 'failed plenty of times elsewhere'
thenodrog Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Kean/Venky's are just furthering the myth of Allardyce with their own incompetence, tis all. There is no myth Topman apart from the one in your imagination. Allardyce is 4th/5th in the list of current managers with most Premier League matches under their belt. Even a complete fool knows that no one survives that long in the Premier League without masses of managerial quality and a real talent for the job. The Premier League has devoured many managers, to survive for so long takes a special ability. Your arguments have become so thin that you are entering the realm of fantasy. God only knows what rubbish you will be spouting by the time the clocks normally go back.
thenodrog Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Daft and inaccurate opinion... Wow thats some irony coming from you That time coincided with the cheapest season tickets rovers had ever offered, remarkable 3 for 20 deals etc but clearly that had absolutely no impact on crowds Wow.. Very funny SD4E. Obviously it amuses you. However I feel that your hilarity might be short lived. The tickets are still as cheap so do you think the total sales will be up or down and what conclusion will we draw from that? I imagine disillusionment at the ownership. Not because Allardyce himself isn't here. Surely there is a massive link there!! You've scuppered yourself there Braddock. Thanks...Saves me typing a long reply.
braddock Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Surely there is a massive link there!! You've scuppered yourself there Braddock. Thanks...Saves me typing a long reply. Considering it seems common belief in this thread that it was either the way he was sacked or who he was replaced by that made people not trust the owners, no, I haven't scuppered anything you old fool.

'old fool' is it? I think you need to be taught some manners.
braddock Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 'old fool' is it? I think you need to be taught some manners. Fair enough. I think you need to follow the thread better.

Kelbo Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 When I read 'proven manager' I read it as 'failed plenty of times elsewhere' Yes, Kean has been a failure at most of his clubs, even as assistant manager! Edit, all of his clubs!!!
cruz Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Has he failed at Rovers yet? I must have missed his sacking So McDonald was a failure? You know, the assistant to the object of your obsession.
Andy Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Has he failed at Rovers yet? Big time - look at last season's performances and results under Kean.
SD4E Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Wow.. Very funny SD4E. Obviously it amuses you. However I feel that your hilarity might be short lived. The tickets are still as cheap so do you think the total sales will be up or down and what conclusion will we draw : As per my last post, clearly I believe ticket sales will be down this year for a couple of simple reasons. -cheap tickets novelty is draining each season, cheapness attracts new customers, but very quickly you devalue the product and that base price becomes the norm. Then fair-weather fans lose the novelty value and go shopping on a Saturday etc. - our new ownership and the general feeling around the place. Nothing to do with hoof ball, which any SANE PAYING CUSTOMER would have wanted in a perfect world, tthe issue was not bringing in a decent manager. My hilarity was in general aimed at he irony in your post (which I quoted).
