RovertheHill Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Go on then, I'll put myself in front of the lynch mob. I suppose most of you would be happier if he actually came out and said it's all a pile of steaming sh*t and we're f*cked. I think it's right that he sets high expectations - it's something Hughes did when he came here and we were languishing in the bottom three. I don't agree with the comment about Jones or Anderson, but he's spot on about Kalinic who has been a big disappointment.

brian nelsen Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 I don't really get what he's said that's wrong. But I think Kamy is right. Probably best if he says nothing. Most of our fans will see the negatives in anything our manager says.
philipl Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 The audience is four dreamers in Pune. As long as Kean is still coming out with this stuff, we will know that they have not yet cornered into reality. All football owners have to live the dream or they wouldn't do what they do but most are more rooted than our's

brian nelsen Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Haha brian, we had this debate last week, shall we resume? Or wait till next time he opens his gob? No your ok mate. Not really much point. I'm ever the optimist.
roverthepond Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 I think we can be a better judge of his comments after the transfer window and we have our club in place. Personally, I'd rather he be optimistic about a top 10 finish with eyes towards the Champions League. We need some positives and some dreaming around our club. I don't want our coaches goal to be avoiding relegation. If that's it, we need a new coach. But it all comes down to the same thing: Sounds good, but are they empty words?

Hughes didn't make any outlandish claims that he knew he couldn't keep. He aimed for Europe, which he achieved. Because of his realistic aims and because of his abilities as a manager, he was well respected. Kean would have turned around a lot of fans who were aghast at his permanent appointment, if he had followed Hughes's lead. A manager will get far more respect by telling the fans exactly how it is. They might not like some of it, but if there's no argument against it and it's the inevitable truth, he will get respect for that. This fella is getting what he asks for....... Oh, and a good CEO would tell him that. ... John Williams told Souness that he had to leave it out when Souey was going through his "only aim is to stay in the league" stuff. ...

If/when it goes tits up, then Steve Kean can explain where his plans for champions league went wrong. He's our manager. Venkys are our owners. The shirts are still blue and white. Ewood Park is our home. Steve obviously has faith in his ability. Let's see if he has it.
chaddyrovers Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 only 3 signings Kean, we need at least 5 signings kean before the transfer window shuts. We have almost sign Goodwillie and Petrovic. so only 3 signings to go. we need at LEAST another Striker, Defender and a winger of a Full back depend whether we sign just a centre back or a defender who can play anywhere at the back.

Definitely. Hopefully, the irons are in the fire. From what's being said on here and from the club, more signings are on the way.

What do you reckon Philip - are we looking at dreamers, incompetents or outright rogues?
imy9 Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 That's one poor interview. Actions as they say will speak louder than words, maybe when we finish in the top half you should talk about Europe Steve? Then onto cl? I agree with Den- that must be a first.
BuckyRover Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 No comment (what Steve should try saying). But as I said before, it's his reputation. He can do what he likes with it.

At the time Hughes made his claim about Europe we were in the bottom three and in free fall. He set high expectations. Now I take the point that he was a far better manager than Kean, and I didn't want him as manager and I still don't, but I fail to see why he is being pilloried for trying to be positive before the start of a new season. It's what every single manager does. If we had a CEO and Kean was saying that it's going to be a terrible season do you think he'd get patted on the back and respected? I doubt it...
Mercer Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Come to expect nothing other than drivel from this man. We were a regular top ten team before he took charge. How bad is Anderson - IMO, without daddy's influence, he would not have been offered any contract by any team in the Football League. We are a joke.
den Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Which bit is OTT? At the time Hughes made his claim about Europe we were in the bottom three and in free fall. The targets that Hughes set were credible and attainable RTH. You only needed to finish in the top 7 then - and outside the top four, there wasn't any other team so far ahead of the rest as there is now. There were no Man City's, nor were Spurs as far ahead as they are now. In fact, as you will remember, we had already been in Europe under Souness. The thing is, if Kean continues with these outlandish claims, that he can't back up, then he wont get the fans onside and he wont get the media off his back. He's not doing himself any favours.

I don't agree with the comment about Jones or Anderson, but he's spot on about Kalinic who has been a big disappointment. He just needs to be realistic - and a bit more savvy around journalists. If he is not careful, he is going to become a characature of himself. If he came in to a room wet through and said it was raining, I'd be going outside to check. Right now he's patronising you, me and every other Rovers fan with his comments.
JAL Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 How serious of a risk to Blackburn Rovers football club has Stephen Kean become.
Mercer Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 How serious of a risk to Blackburn Rovers football club has Stephen Kean become. Hasn't become a serious risk, has always been a mega risk since appointed manager.

T.J.Newton Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 id rather we aimed for a champions league place (not this year obviously) and ended up with a uefa spot than say where aiming for uefa spot and end up with nowt, clubs have to set targets so may aswell set them high.

Why not to win the league then? For the kind of investment that is needed to get us into the CL, we might as well go all out so we can have a title shot. Can you not see how utterly ridiculous it sounds?
OJRovers Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Right now we've heard far too much 'positivity' from Kean's mouth, we need ACTIONS, then people might start to believe. Also 3 extra players (presumably consisting of Goodie, Petra + AN Other) is not enough to take a squad that escaped relegation on the last day of the season into the top half after losing P.Jones, J.Jones, RSC, Mama, EHD, Benjani and Kalinic from the squad. We need more like 3/4 permanent + 2/3 quality loan signings.
Taggart Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 I dont think Champions League should even be discussed until we can at leats prove that we can challenge for a top ten finish, let alone a top six finish - barmy and scary - soudn sliek thta is what he has sold to the owners and they are bought in to it. nonsense, we are never goign to break in to the top four unless the owners are goign to spend money like City are doing, and then we would still have to wait as no-one will come to rovers with the talent to take us in to the top six, let alone Champions League. Little at a time, with no talk of European football until we at least stabilise the club FFS
