  1. 1. Should Steve Kean stay or go

Recommended Posts

It still doesn't make it right though does it?

Well, on one hand the league table is how our progress as a club is judged.

But on the other hand the biggest test of a manager is their ability to win football matches and Steve Kean seems even worse than Paul Ince at this.

It's two different ways of looking at it, but there must be a reason why everyone uses win percentage?

There's no need to compare Kean's record to anyone. His record is ###### - fact. His continual insistance on putting a positive spin on it was just nauseating. He might be a fantastic coach, he might be a fantastic person, but I can't stand having him as our manager. We'll see how results go for him in the coming season.

I am beginning to hate Kean.

Exactly. If/when it goes tits up, then Steve Kean can explain where his plans for champions league went wrong. He's our manager. Venkys are our owners. The shirts are still blue and white. Ewood Park is our home. Steve obviously has faith in his ability. Let's see if he has it.

We've seen Kean's ability demonstrated over 21 PL matches. He is lacking.

I will judge him on results not whether i like him or not, and the last game i went to was the last game of last season away at Wolves and we played some tremendous football.

Add to that Rochina, Formica and now Goodwillie and I feel every reason to be optimistic for the coming season.

No doubt we will mis PJ, but i am prepared to give him time to prove himself.

It would be difficult to be worse than Ince, and we recovered from that debacle, so theres hope.

Goodwillie hasn't signed yet.

Just caught some of talk sport discussing Steve Kean and Blackburn Rovers. Both presenters having a good old laugh at the managers claim we’ll be in the champions league in 4 seasons......

Ronny Irani then went on to say he knows a couple of people who work with Kean and they cannot speak highly enough of him, wonderful in the dressing room and on the training ground.

They also mentioned Roberts lost 3kg during one game in HK, anyone seen Steb since he got back :D

Shock horror, I think I agree with Bucky!

It's his reputation, he flops here, he's a Phil Brown-esque figure of fun.

Perhaps he can follow Brown to the lower leagues, where he should be anyway.

Has bucky even posted on this thread of late?

Think that Kean is under enormous pressure at the moment. Seemingly, has lost the Kentaro crutch, is getting buffeted about over players and faces his drink / drive charge next week. Then has to deliver against Wolves.

No pressure there then ! A test of his mettle and character me thinks.

I think deciding between liposuction or having a stomach band installed can't be helping.

Rochina, Formica and now Goodwillie and I feel every reason to be optimistic for the coming season.

No doubt we will mis PJ and JJ, but i am prepared to give him time to prove himself.

Corrected it for you Roost.

John Terry hails Villa-Boas' modern management.

"Andre’s a modern manager. He understands the players. He’s not old school.

I’ve been speaking to a couple of the other lads at Villa and Blackburn. They’re on double sessions and they’re busting their guts basically every day."

Hmm. Nothing wrong with getting fit, but that's a bit worrying. We're desperately short of quality coaching staff.

It was the same under Allardyce and Hughes LeChuck? not sure what point you're making?

I'm not sure about other managers, but it was the case under Roy Hodgson - morning session and then afternoon session, where most other clubs were doing just a morning session.

Started to work out pretty well, we were up with the top few in the table until after halfway when the players grew noticeably tired and we dropped down the table pretty rapidly.

I think I had flashbacks to Ince, Archie Knox and "drop and give me 20!" and panicked a bit.

You're right, there is little point to my post, other than stating the lack of quality in the coaching staff.

You're right there Andy, That's how I recall it.

Interesting. Aston Villa are also mentioned there - managed by Alex McLeish. Birmingham capitulated at the end of last season, that's why they were relegated.

Given the new style Kean is apparently trying to adopt, I would have expected him to take a more modern approach to training sessions.

I understand Jensen is organising the training and it is three sessions a day.

1 and 3 are fitness and 2 is ball work.

Nzonzi seemed to be more comfortable on the ball and his distribution improved in HK.

It is going to be critical that we have got the pre-season right for the big kick-off because so much else has gone wrong this summer. At KO -9, we have nothing like a PL strength squad currently under contract.

It all depends on the intensity of the training rather than the frequency/duration, until we know those facts which I doubt we ever will its hard to compare or criticise. Since when did John Terry spouting in the press become gospel too, he is talking up AVB at every opportunity and no doubt Rovers and Villa were two names that came into his head when promoting AVB's methods and criticising other teams.

I'd very much doubt we'd be doing three sessions once the season gets into full swing.

Does modern training methods mean giving the chelsea rent boys the afternoons off for shopping and secret adultery?? ;)

I wonder which Rovers players are friends with a snake like Terry?

I was at a question and answer session awhile ago with Kevin Gallager & Jason Wilcox. They were asked who was the best manager they had worked under. Both said Roy Hodgson. This was due to the preperation that training sessions (2) per day gave them. They also praised his man management of players.

Bunkum

His first season we qualified for Europe didn't we? So hardly dropping down the league

Second season he wouldn’t change formation or tactics and fell out with the players, wasn’t fitness at all from memory.
