  1. 1. Should Steve Kean stay or go

We DID lose our way badly in the new year. Going from title contenders at Xmas to scrapping into the Uefa Cup on the last day of the season proves that.

We just didn't have a good enough squad to maintain a serious title challenge.

If I remember right we were still doing pretty well before collapsing in April and May and only a very late free kick from Sutty confirmed the 6th place.

A combination of the squad just not being good enough to maintain a title challenge and the start of Woy losing some of the senior players imo.

I am not getting carried away plus I have not seen any of these players play however it seems like we are doing some good business in the window?

Goodwillie seems promising and is an extremely hard worker, Petrovic seems solid and Vierhinia is highly rated. A quality striker along with potential loan deals and this could make a massive difference to our fortunes.

Potentially well done to the manager as on the face of it some shrewd business?

Goodwillie's in the bag. Just hope we can wrap up the rest of these deals.

Still needing that main striker, yet. That will be a real test of Kean & Venky's pulling power.

Goodwillie, lets wait and see he works hard which is great but stepping up to the BPL from the SPL, something else, just ask fletcher. I'd be happier if he excelled in one given attribute, I'm reserving judgement on him, but it is good to have a jock in the squad again. Petrovic well, again can we help him adjust to life in England and can he step up to the level required? Hopefully we manage him better than our last eastern european signing. Veirinhi looks good in greece, but never quite made it in Portugal, has his time there helped him progress we'll find out if he signs. But greece is a weak league compared to ours and Derb's even manged to socre frequently over there when played, so again lets wait and see.

But that's my main issue, we need proven quality for our 1st 11 not hopefuls which is what we are signing. It doesn't need to be a Ronaldinho, but a top player from say Italy, Germany, Spain or here would give me more confidence as what we have at present are in essence gambles. Obviously I realise every player is a gamble but better players less of one.

Could be right, I heard rumblings at the time that Sherwood and others were at constant loggerheads with Woy.

Thought that myself, however Sherwood has said on numerous occasions that Woy was the best manager/coach he has played under!

I doubt that. Sherwood openly admitted he played a part in getting Woy the sack.

When is Kean's court case? If he is found guilty is there a chance that Venkys will sack him?

The conversation was did Woy's methods mean we ran out of steam in the second part of the season?

The points tally proves we badly lost form after Xmas, if it was due to fitness, morale, who knows?

Hodgson had the team doing double sessions, in the morning and afteroon all season. This was the norm abroad. So effectively when the team reached Christmas they had already done a years worth of training. The players fell out with Hodgson over these sessions, so in effect it was a culmination of the fitness/morale issues you mentioned above

According to the Lancashire Telegraph the court date was set for 15th August, after Kean told the court the new season starts on 22nd August.

Ha ha ha, fantastic. Does that mean he wont be at Ewood on saturday? How on earth does he not know that start date of the league, goes to show what input he has had in pre-season

Are we sure about that? Surely he knew the season started August 13? Is it on tape, or is it merely reported that he said the 22nd?

C'mon Steve. 99.9% of what we refer to on here is newspaper reports. Did you read the link? It'd be pretty incomprehensible for someone to record his response and get it wrong!

Having read the sunday paper sports supplements, it is clear that Kean is the much favoured for being potted first in his role as manager of Rovers. quite sadly, the pundits are also putting Rovers down as favourites for the drop.

Kean may be in court on Monday but for me, I just dont see him sirviving the hot seat past September unless we get some big points on the board from the first 5 games.

I don't think many would want to see him survive past September if he doesn't get big points on the board from the off. He has to carry the form from the back end of last season into this season.

He is on his final chance.

Correct, there are not many that are going to be sad to see him go. One note of caution though, who on earth would they get in to be his replacement. They might hand over the reigns to the pistol loving brother

Court date is a week on Monday.

Kean's only hope is that the recent feel good factor that appears to be around the first team is a.) real and b.) sufficient to translate into performances and wins early on (we have one of our better runs starting next week).

Oh, and keep Samba.

I read the article. I can't believe Steve Kean would get the date the season starts wrong. It is his livelihood we're talking about and preparing for the first game of the season should be always in his mind, the center of his universe. Far more likely that the reporter got the quote wrong.

At least that is what I would normally think. With the circus Venkys management put on pre-mid July (my opinion), I suppose any mistake is possible from them and Kean, even the most basic such as the season's start date.

That's because the two are strongly linked.

I could put it down to two things. It was either a lie to make the hearing as late as possible. Although this would be extremely risky so I doubt he would have risked making things ten times worse.

That only leaves a genuine mistake due to it being so early in the year (before the end of last season?) and he simply got confused. The last game of last season was 22nd May.

I'll be surprised if he's found not guilty. I just hope that it doesn't further disrupt the start to our season. If Venkys do relieve him of his duties they'd better have someone lined up.
