  1. 1. Should Steve Kean stay or go

Recommended Posts

It seems that Kean is renowned for liking a drink or two or more.

Nothing wrong with that at the right time, in the right circumstances and with the right responsibilities.

Talking to two solicitors over the weekend and schools' of thought were at different ends of the spectrum ranging from not having a leg to stand on to alomst certain to get off as something up his lawyer's sleeve.

Interesting to learn who he thinks spiked his drink. he should not have a leg to stand on.

May be we should have a 'who do you want as a new manager' poll, in case Kean is either sacked or jailed.

Please don't.

The only trick Keans legal team could have is if they prove the breathalyser machine that was used was faulty, not calibrated or that there is a techinicality with the paperwork filled in and completed by the traffic cops. it is my experience that trtaffic cops do not make such mistakes with the paperwork, the machines used are calibrated and in date and the new radios they use do not cause any problems with the reading obtained in the final analysis of his breath test. if he has blown over the legal limit it is simple, he is guilty.

As for spiking his drink ? Well his word is simply not good enough on its own. Anyone could use that defence and as of this date the only way he can get that excuse accepted in court is if he is lucky enough for the spiker to get in the box and admit it leaving themselves wideopen for prosecution for administering noxious substances ie alcohol. I dont think anyone would readily admit to that offence.

I think even Nick Freeman would struggle

Should have been sacked last season after presiding over the club's worst run in 25 years. Survived because he is a puppet of the owners.

No excuse for drink-driving either - should lose his licence for at least 5 years.

Agreed Jim.

Don't be silly PAFELL, he won't be jailed or sacked, and doesn't deserve to be either.

I do not think he will survive if Rovers go on a run like they did last season. All drivers driving whilst over the limit deserve jail - should be the minimum punishment.

You could be right, but the law doesn't send people to jail for drinking driving in most cases, so that law should apply here.

It is dependant on how much over the limit a driver was. Judges have guidelines on what sentence can be given.

The punishments range from just a fine and a ban, to community service and a ban, to jail.

Sentence can also be reduced if the driver does a drink rehabilitation course. Even a defence of saying the drink was spiked has serious consequences. First it has to be established that the person was not over the limit when the drink was bought.

Kean was found to be 65 with the breath test - which should mean a 24 month driving ban. But making the spiked allegations could make things worse. Under the judges guidelines he should avoid jail - sadly.

I did it years ago. 15 years ago. Got a 3 year ban and 400 pounds fine. Luckily, I didn't hurt anyone. I was told, I was lucky that I wasn't sent to prison for a three month period. I didn't drive again til about 5 years ago because, personally, I didn't think it was right that I should be allowed on the roads. But, you constantly see, on the tv (police, camera, action et al), people mowing into other cars, pedestrians, property and everything else and getting nowhere near as much of a penalty that I got. I can't really understand how that is. I personally think Steve Kean will be whacked with, what is to me, a heavy fine and a small driving ban.

What 'spiked' allegations? Last I heard, someone on here made that one up...

More unsubstantiated tittle tattle being peddled as fact. Good old BRFCS :glare:

Mercerman was probably with him, he was telling us the other day he was off to the pub at lunch time.

Kean would not be welcomed into the 'Friday nine hole ale crew'. We are rather choosy as to who we associate with !

Couldn't have put it better myself.

I wasn't aware I was the lucky member of a site where everyone is whiter-than-white,has no skeletons in their closets and have never made a mistake or done anything wrong/illegal.

Self-righteous barely covers it to be honest Otto...
