  1. 1. Should Steve Kean stay or go

Recommended Posts

I've grown a bit tired of the Sam vs Kean debate, but what has been clear as of late is that under Kean we have suffered trying to play "better" football and only after reverting to Sam's direct style of play have we been able to get results.

Now that we have a frontman like Santa Cruz in the team, we should be taking advantage of his ability in the air and start sending crosses in and getting the ball up to him because he can bring it down and bring the wingers and midfielders into play. Hoilett and Olsson need to start marauding down the wings and sending crosses into Cruz to score. Pedersen could even be of use now on the wings and play a Bentley role. Likewise, keep using set pieces as a method of attack. We have N'zonzi back now, both Joneses are fairly good in the air now as well. Get the ball into the box and create havoc in there, any means necessary.

We have the tools at our disposal to obtain the results we so desperately need, but Kean has to use them.

None of the players we have possess the ability to put in decent crosses on a consistent basis, Pedersen 4 or 5 years ago yes but he is a shadow of the player he once was. Hughes saw that and as a result started to drop him often towards the end of his tenure and Allardyce moved him into the middle of the field because there was just no consistency.

I think Olsson can do the job well enough. Hoilett probably not so much, but both those players are capable of getting past defenders on the wings and putting balls into the box. Doesn't matter how accurate they are, just get them in there.

Sent another e-mail telling them to sack Kean and get an experienced and decent manager. Won't achieve anything but it's good to get it all off your chest. I'll post a copy of it for you to pick apart if you like.

Well done Billy, as you said we all doubt it will happen but at least you tried.

Just more bullsh1t. Failed to beat West Ham, Stoke, Newcastle or Blackpool at home - some home record Kean has !

Big question is what is Venkys' tipping-point ?

Next match up is Arsenal away who now have only one focus this season. If we lose 4 or 5 will that be enough ? Sure as hell can't see Mrs D and her brothers having a party and watching the match like they did with Man. U !

You wouldn't have Howard Webb's address would you?

Put like that there is no debate to be had Miker.

Rubbish. Sure we miss Bentley but MGP is a good crosser of the ball, as is Salgado and to a slightly lesser extent Olsson.

When MGP is feeling his oats his crosses are deadly.

I wish Olsson would take the ball into the box more often than he whips the ball in. Don't get me wrong some crosses are sublime, but some have fans diving for cover.

Complete rubbish. If that was the case he would still be playing on the wing, Sam moved him from there because he was inconsistent. He can put in balls from a dead ball situation but moving or running with the ball he fails to deliver.

Festering refuge dump. Compared to pretty much everyone else on our team he is like Beckham.

Agree he had wilted on the wing and that is why our fantastic gum chewing guru moved him there.

Hah, just heard Kean's post match comments on the highlights show. Something along the lines of "It would've been easy for me to change the shape and sub some players, but I just told them, stay positive lads and we'll get something out of it."

Sounds to me like Kean's taken the management out of management. Does he actually do anything? It seems all we ever hear about is him telling the players to express themselves and stay positive. His management style pretty much involves throwing candy at the players, stroking their backs and telling them they did good and hoping that they'll perform well enough to get results.

Agree, this home record that KEAN has is pretty poor. Of the three teams mentioned you'd expect around two wins, or at least 5 points. Kean is talking out of his backside trying to claim he is responsible for a great home record. The man utterly infuriates me - does he genuinely not see that there are problems?

The bit I've put in bold is the key question to me. And tbh I think that this HAS to be the tipping point. Any less time and any new man will not have enough time to do anything. Given that results would struggle to get any worse - although facing the teams we have coming up I wouldn't like to bet on that - we utterly have to get rid of Kean now if we are to survive.

I'm desperate. Benitez, McClaren, Coco the Clown - anyone could do a better job then Kean seems to be doing. People who I wouldn't have wanted particularly near rovers at any point previously in nearly 20 years of supporting rovers I'd be happy to see at the helm because they cannot be anywhere near as hopeless as that usless excuse we have for a manager at present.
