  1. 1. Should Steve Kean stay or go

Recommended Posts

Kean reminds me of John Major, overpromoted beyond his capabilities, out of his depth, doomed to failure and will be forgotten when he's gone. Hope he's enjoying his brief moment of fame before he slinks back into the football undergrowth from where he came and where he will be remembered as a puppet for owners who are slowly destroying our football club.

Unfortunately jim, I feel we will remember the Kean 'era' all too well in the future...

So, Kean has now signed versions of Batistuta (Formica) and Smalling (Anderson).

If this guy is such a talented spotter of potential, wtf has he been doing until he landed this job, allegedly, in the most controversial of circumstances.

I would mortgage my house on Kean having seen neither player in a live competitive match for 90 minutes.

My personal opinion of Kean can go no lower and I wouldn't trust the guy as far as I could spit.

Dont say things you'll backtrack on. I'm sure your personal opinion can still nose-dive.

You can, but you can also add that he clearly knew what he was doing and that was evidenced early on in his reign when we became extremely organised and were able to grind out results.

Plus had a highly rated coaching staff working with him.

Completely agree - I've always said a big part of Hughes' success was down to his backroom team, just as most of his transfer 'finds' were as a result of the scouts doing their jobs properly, rather than Hughes somehow magically producing these players from nowhere.

If Kean had a team of that quality behind him, I'm positive we wouldn't be performing as poorly as we are right now.

There's a much more recent and pertinent example, surprised you missed it really - Gordon Brown.

Kean and Gordon Brown would make a excellent team. 2 muppets together!!!

2 people who wreck things. Kean is wrecking rovers and Brown wreck the country by over spending massively!!!

Can i just say that Hughes was known to be shockingly dull, boring and methodic.

A natural leader all the same. He had a massive presence on the touchline, as did Allardyce and Kenny (in his Kenny coat). Alpha males all of them. Compare that to the images of Paul Ince and little Steve Kean.

A natural born leader/winner who was tough as hell. He demanded control/respect and ensured all tasks were delegated appropriately amongst the rest of the coaching staff - whilst manager, here, he defended the club/players to the hilt.

Can I just say that Kean comes across as shockingly dull and boring because he is but without the redeeming qualities which made Hughes one of the best managers we ever had. Possibly the best ever, given the problems he faced when he took over, the heights he took us to and the lack of finance for transfers.

Kean is not fit to be mentioned in the same sentence as Hughes.

But you just did anyway :D

Can Hughes speak portuguese? Well, I ask you. And we all know that the main criteria for a decent manager is giving a great press conference. Don't want to be worrying about selecting decent transfer targets, setting up a team for Saturday, making astute substitutions, when you can instead just BS your way out of it with some media black arts.

the tandem of kean and jensen, does not give me any confidence. Both have failed miserably as managers, actually their records are quite similar and in an awful way.

It does speak volumes, that kean is close to ince statwise, as another poster wrote. horrific.

It's your tactics!!!

hehe just love it, when the tactical gurus, on the official fm forum, use that exact frase.

Just for the people supporting the last manager, a few choice words from our resident reporter from another thread, that sort of goes some way to explaining why I have ill feeling towards the guy that are not just on the pitch related:

Sam got the huff because he was sacked and started making allegations without naming anyone regarding kean back stabbing him. He could have been referring to someone else, like the agent he had criticised by his mate Fergie.

If Sam KNEW that something had gone on and who did it he should have said what happened and named names rather than just farting in an empty room and letting the smell stick to anyone nearby.

You may recall Sam going all huffy after leaving Bolton and a similar war of words breaking out.

Can I just remind you that Sam wanted out last summer because there was no money available to spend.

We had the Middle East carry-on among others.

Now this is all speculation and conjecture, I fully accept that, but if true we have a man here who has touted himself around in the summer without managing to get a move. We also have a man who has actually gone out of his way to destabilise the club once he's left, and people still support the man :angry2:

More straw clutching than Rumpelstiltskin there Gav.

What would you say?

"Yes I deserved to be sacked and Kean jetting of to India was a superlative show of support"

You bet I do. The guy would have kept us in the Premier League and the welfare of the club is far more important than the individuals involved. Kean has managed to take us to the bottom of the form table and possibly into the Championship. Whilst I respect your opinion, you'll never convince me that Kean is in anyway an improvement on Sam.

People support the man because in general, he did a good job and it is a reasonable view to take that we wouldn't have relegation concerns if he was still here. Plumping for Kean when they did was a reckless gamble even if it comes off/doesn't end disasterously (and I say that as someone who likes a reckless gamble!). We'd have been better off parting ways with "The Expert" in the Summer.

He's long since gone mind and I find the Groundhog-day-esque "what Sam would/wouldn't have done" after every game tiresome. We'd have 40 points or there abouts and be looking forward to getting absolutely spanked at Arsenal. It's not news, I don't need to be reminded every week.

As it stands we've less points and still looking forward to a probable spanking at Arsenal but might give it a go and defend like muppets further up the pitch than cowering in the penalty area punting it to the half-way line.

Most people would probably swap that for the points at this stage. Probably fair enough.
