Are you sure about that? IIRC they were in freefall and it took sacking Sam and appointing King Kev to save them from relegation. Such was the perceived mess he made, Allardyce was virtually an football outcast until we offered him a chance to resurrect his career.

Keegan left in the summer, they appointed Joe Kinnear then Shearer (in that order I think) and they went down the following season.

EDIT: Beanie beat me to it.

Talk about re - writing history. NUFC were 13th when they sacked Allardyce.

I bet you deny the holocaust too.

that we will probably be playing in the Championship next season because the stupid owners failed to adequately replace Allardyce.

I've corrected this for you.

Until you stop posting rubbish like this people who understand football on here will continue to knock you down.

Yawn. More boorish, childish insults from someone who really should know better. I understand just as much as you, but don't share the same opinion. Try to deal with that like an adult instead of a petulant 5 year old.

It's called negative spin. Someone needs to add a bit of balance to the Samettes' constant barrage of positive spin being applied to his time at Rovers.

I bet you deny the holocaust too.

The fact that you made this connection says more about you than any of your posts ever could.

Leave the rubbish about Sam to the likes of MarkBRFC1971 and move on.

Please stop stalking me - it's becoming borderline obsessive.

No idea if it's a self fulling proficy, but there does seem to be a flurry of betting on keano today.

From PaddyPower on twtter

Punters piling in to #rovers Steve Kean to be next Prem Sack Race victim. Now 4/9 from 6/4. Guess he won't be feeling like chicken tonight

Sam had 10m to spend in his first season and more cash to spend in his second season? Isn't that hiding the truth that he had in fact a negative budget, rather than a positive one? In other words, he had to take value out of the squad.

He had 10m to spend Den and brought Kalinic and a few others in, all of which have proven so far to be far from premiership quality in my opinion.

I really doubt Kean is going anywhere now, and its probably just people who think they've heard something. Bookies bets at these prices.

Also as pointed out, it doesnt take much in this market to reduce the odds significantly

He was sacked because he was cr@p, you don't get sacked for doing a fantastic job.

But to answer your question, if I was sacked It would be because I wasn't doing my job, I'd walk away and get another job, not blame everyone else because I’m so arrogant that I can’t see myself doing anything other than a great job.

The mans an arse.

So ###### what? Who cares? We want a top quality football manager at BRFC not a winner of a bloody popularity contest! We can no longer afford top players so it's even more important to employ a top manager. Mark Hughes was probably an arse too (certainly very dour and uncommunicative), so too Ferguson, Wenger, Mourhino, Clough, Revie, Benitez, etc etc etc. It appears being an unpopular arsehole with everybody but your own players seems to be a primary requirement of being a top manager. So why get so rude personal in such an immature fashion?

btw Do you even know Allardyce personally Gav? Did you spend much time in his company? Or are you merely involved in clutching at straws like a man drowning in a sea of his own stupidity? I'm sure Allardyce can be arrogant, rude, single minded etc etc but ask me if I care so long as little town club BRFC with no fans and no money are dining at the top table?

You must realise that you have become a comic figure on here with all but a handful of your cronies. Your credibility is shot on here, my lad and his mates laugh in the pub at what you and topman etc come out with. If we are relegated that laughter will soon stop.

Good grief! The fact that we had finished last season as 10th and were again midtable and in front of the season before in Dec proves that those players are indeed of Premier League quality and that your opinion is completely worthless.

You just keep digging that big hole ever bigger don't you? Will you never learn to read what you have written before posting?

I wondered if the increase was people realising we are going to be smashed by Arsenal next week and getting bets in early. It must be a decent amount of punters for it to be tweeted about and listed on the paddypower forums.

It is entirely unfair to judge Kalinic yet. He has shown he has a fair wack of potential and his finishing is pretty good. He, like Hoilett, needs fitting into a formation that suits him and a run of games. Kalinic is the only goal scorer at the club at the moment, yet he sits on the bench.

Sam's purchases at Newcastle haven't done too badly and his Bolton team was superb.

Maybe it would help the overall discussion if you could acknowledge the things SA did well, as it would demonstrate the balance of your thoughts and posts. Providing he did anything well in your eyes of course!

It is clear he must have done something right to firstly keep us up and then get us to 10th and then steady away this year. If all the players he bought are as bad as you state, the tactics he employed as bad as you state, and his methods prehistoric, how could he possibly achieve all he did?

Changing tack, on the subject of Steve Kean, my friend has just rung to tell me to lump on him being sacked this morning!! Fingers crossed. I want my Rovers back.

Matty - Mark believes, like many other people, that Allardyce was past his sell by date, taking us nowhere only backwards, thats his opinion, it may not be in keeping with yours or others on the site, but all the same its a view he holds, so why should he eat humble pie? Just to fit in and agree with the 7 other people on this thread that disagree.

I was stood at half time on Saturday with a group of lads, around 20 or so, who to a man all agreed the manager had to go, but not one person agreed that Kean should have been brought in to replace him, I think thats a good place to be, and firmly where I am at this moment in time.

Agreed. That's my opinion (although I would say we'd stagnated a bit, rather than going backwards), and echoes the majority of Rovers fans that I know.

Come on Jim don't resort to calling people names like the usual suspects that joined us more recently, you're better than that.

Read his posts - he really isn't. Shame really, because he obviously is passionate about Rovers as much as we all are, he just seems unable to accept that people have different opinions without recourse to insults.

I've been debating on here for many years Matty, but I won't change my mind because a few fellow posters tell me too, thats not how debate works is it?

Unfortunately Gav, there seems to be a partyline on here, and rather than enjoy adult debates and sharing of different opinions it seems the more vocal pro-Sam element would prefer to insult and shout everyone down who doesn't share their worldview.

Mods - can we ban any talk of Allardyce now from this thread - he's got his own. If people want to go and worship at the Big Sam altar then let them do it there. This is the Steve Kean thread, so we should be looking at the present and future, not the past.

I think Kalinic is a victim of the Allardyce style of play, expecting him to control the ball around his shoulders and head week in week out isn't playing to his strengths, but from what I see he isn't good enough, and how much time does he get? Allardyce even hammered him in the press if memory serves me correctly.

Hoilett on the other hand is a very good prospect indeed, but Allardyce chose not to play him, opting for safety instead, good idea or bad, we’d have lost Hoilett to another club under Allardyce.

No, its an entirely fair to compare the current manager to previous managers.

If people like yourself mark, ate a bit of humble pie and stopped coming out with utter rubblish like 'Sam was an average manager' we would be able to move on.

oh aye your right lad we'll all eat humble pie just for you. After all "The Expert" was way too good for us. He should have been managing Inter, Barca, Real, Juve or some other "top" team and he told eveyone so whenever he could. The fat one WAS average like it or not AND he wanted out of Brfc or is your memory so clouded by your worship of The Majesty that is Sam? Where is he by the way? Who's he managing now?.... No one?......Must be recharging his batteries ready to replace Cappello or some other top manager eh? In fact I bet Mourinho is clearing his desk as we speak!

I have never said he should be managing a 'top club', I have repeatedly said that for a club of our budget he was a top manager. To say he did an 'average job' at Rovers or is an 'average manager' is going against the facts of his tenure here and at Bolton.

a lot of the anti-Sam brigade seem to intently dislike the man, whilst the pro-Sam brigade didn't give a feck about his personality and judged him on his results and the improvement of our fortunes.

If you took time to read what I actually posted (#946) you’d realise that in 51 pages of this thread, I’ve mentioned the very same probably once, so calling for the mods like some child in a playground calling for his teacher does you credit whatsoever.

Over to your smart arse.

I think you're a troll who hated Sam with a passion just like your mates and you keep making that point over and over to wind the Board up. You enjoy crowing about his sacking even in the predicament we face. "He had to go" you said. Not "He had to go in the summer". This is a bit you added after, like a few on here.

I won't be feeding your face again no matter what you write.
