  1. 1. Should Steve Kean stay or go

Recommended Posts

My agenda is the long-term future of the club.

Forgive me for not doing cart-wheels on the back of one very good performance. Having Phil Jones back should help us a lot. But there's no denying our form has been awful and at times the manager has been far from perfect.

I want Kean to succeed but only for the sake of our club but I think a reality check is needed in some quarters.

Last seven matches reads P7, W0, D3, L4, GF8, GA14, P3.

Yes, he's had injuries to deal with but nothing as horrendous as Sam's first half season.

One swallow does not make a summer and there is a long, long way to go.

If we lose to Brum, it would be far more catastrophic than had we lost yesterday. It's the games against these type of teams that matter and where, since Kean took over, we have struggled.

On the difference a striker makes...

Is there another club in the Premier League that has had LESS goals from its forwards this season?

THAT is the story of this campaign and how you finish.

Steve Kean put out a well-organised side yesterday and does not lack commitment from his players. That has been the case for quite a while despite the garbage that some spout.

However you won't find points easy from now in because the strikers are so poor at scoring.

It doesn't matter how good your defensive tactics are. If you can't score, you don't win.

Just remind me nicko, how many firing strikers did we have last season when we finished 10th?

Mercerman record over the last 7 games, that's a new form guide, thought it's over 6 games... Oh yeah that would not support your agenda, made me laugh. :)

Well, if the next six match the last six, none of us will be laughing !

Well following on from your example, we are undefeated in two games and have kept our first clean sheet in a while :)

I have seen a lot of progression in the last three games and hope this continues in the final run of games.

Ah-that old desperate chestnut--------performance over points! We're all delighted to see any progress at all. Let's hope it does continue.

Interesting that people are praising Kean for his tactical acumen yesterday. What system did we play------4-5-1!

Yet when Sam played it, we got hordes of posters on here screaming 4-4-2! It was even chanted at games.

We don't get them anymore!!

I was one who always argued that we hadn't the talent in mid-field to play with 2 strikers on a regular basis. I was howled down as were others.

Common sense really---it just taken so long for Kean to realise it.

Ok--lets look at it over 6 games then. Bloody appalling isn't it?

That's exactly what Sam used to say - a proven striker would have enabled us to finish top eight.

So we gave him 6 million to buy one and he blew that on Kailinic ;)

I've just said on the Arsenal thread that Kean deserves nothing but credit after the performance yesterday. He picked the right side, got the tactics bang on and we came away from the emirates with a point, which is as rare has hens teeth.

I think we all agree he isn’t the answer to the managerial position at Ewood, but well done Steve Kean, praise where praise is due.

I prefer to comment on games I have seen or go to. Blackpool was a fair-enough display to me too. Arsenal was a rather gutsy evening's work.

But if you prefer to be driven by your own agenda, that's ok...

To be fair Alan, Kalinic is the striker who shows the most potential of our current crop. With a decent run in the team he may well net 8-10 goals a season, but under Kean and with the team struggling, he seems to have no chance. Kalanic is more of a goal poaching type that would rely from the service of midfield. He now looks short of confidence which is unsurprising.

I have a bad feeling that Kalinic will end up going somewhere else and scoring lots.

In my opinion of course, no agenda, just going off what I have seen in the games I've seen him play in.

From what I have seen Kalinic is weak physically and weak mentally. I can't get the picture of him giving up the chase for the ball at Liverpool this season out of my head.

Sam saw as much in him which is why he kept leaving him out. He wasn't even on the bench for a spell, notably the key 7-1er at Man U.

To suggest Kalinic is out of the side because he has 'fallen out' with Kean is the usual drivel from the usual quarters.

He could be worth a go in a two up front, but you would be watsing your time with him as the one.

Because of lack of options Kalinic may get a game or two before the end.

However he isn't the long-term answer in my view. He does not look like bulking up and gets sickened too easily.

Not really.

Villa have Bent but are still unconvincing. West Ham have strikers galore but can't defend. Fulham should get goals out of Zamora once he is fully fit. Wolves have just lost their best one. Wigan struggle because they play one up top. West Brom have goals and look like escaping. Blackpool have had goals from Campbell but may still come up short because they lose goals. If Rovers had a striker who had netted eight to ten this season they would be in on around the top eight.

Getting a bit Mystic Meg with how the game is going at Craven Cottage at half-time!

Can't be much to do with him he was in India.

It's not rocket science. Fulham would be safe if they had a goalscorer - same with Rovers. Blackpool leak them, but they still have winnable games.

Think my half-time full-time is quite safe in the meantime.

You really are a sad old blether.

But you don't need me to tell you that.

Kean was in India at a time when his players were on international duty.

He got back in time to get their game plan right - as did the players who were immense.

But it is clearly choking you.

Which is an unexpected bonus.

Sam's tactics, eh? Like the 7-1 at Man U or the 6-2 at Arsenal.

Make your mind up.

Golden rule of survival.... Beat the clubs around and below you.

Nothing at all new about that but it appears you and a lot of others seem to have forgotten it. Good display though it was at the Emirates the match v Brum is miles more important.

Strange thing is, there is still this idea from loads of fans, that he's quality and a great finisher. I totally agree with you on this one Nicko. Two years and he's done nowt in my opinion. He's 23 now and not improving at all. He's not quick, not strong, doesn't have a great shot on him, isn't a good header of the ball and his hold up play isn't great either.

Blowed how he's got this reputation.

Totally agree. I can think of 2 good finishes in 2 years - 1st against Chelsea in the cup and Baggies away, the rest have been scruffy or tap ins. Obviously they all count, but having just watched Zamora run 40 yards and smack one in, that he ain't. He falls over, traps like a concrete wall, scuffs shots, can't muscle past a defender etc etc.

Slaven Bilic.... "Kalinic is the future of Croatian football".

That OK? Now Mr Agent here is the number of my bank account.... <_<

Ahhh, but that was probably like the quotes outside West End theatres that miss out some crucial bit of added context, e.g. "Kalinic is the future of croatian football, which shows just how far we have plummeted."
