  1. 1. Should Steve Kean stay or go

Recommended Posts

Hmmmm....

You mean the manager that signed him didn't think he was any good?

Sam signed him as an [expensive] gamble.

As I recall Kalinic was behind the on-loan Di Santo in his first season as work was done to make him more physical.

Sam gave him his chance this season, he looked better occasionally but his limp performances in away games made him unpickable.

His best game was at West Brom - under Kean ironically - but they are a defence that you have a chance against.

The bottom line is that the guy has not lived up to his potential.

£6 million is a lot of money for us and obviously we cannot afford to make mistakes - however in relative terms it is not a lot of money to buy a (proven) goal scorer.

Think Sam made is pretty clear he was in the market for a Darren Bent/Crouch type striker etc as he knew they would come in and score goals

His track record of signing Anelka at Bolton shows he has a good signing, once in a while, in his locker

I think Kalinic best performance was at WBA apart from the red card.

Maybe Kean will bring him back next week against Brum. Him and RSC might be a good partnership. played well together when we played WBA at home!

i think Kalinic would play better if he plays in a 2 up front.

who does Kalinic play up front with for Croatia?

what baffles me nicko, is your constant bigging up of kean despite the fact we have fallen from 8 place into a couple of places above the relegation zone. You cant honestly think hes doing a good job can you? what do you see in him that so many others dont? i normally respect your opinions but on this instants your way off.

It's not 'bigging up' - it's thinking he deserves a chance and is doing ok in tough circumstances.

If you ignore all of the sniders and the back-stabbing allegations [which have never actually ever been said or identified by Sam] plus the puppet stuff [which is equal tosh] then he is making a fair attempt of a tough ask.

This is the hardest survival fight in history. There isn't a poor team at the bottom. Nobody is adrift.

You will need seven to eight points to survive from here. That's the reality. Not all of the garbage that gets chucked in the guy's direction.

Anelka was already proven in the PL. It was a no-brainer.

Kevin Davies was a far bigger accomplishment from a managerial POV.

If or when we stay up. then Kean will need to look to sign about 5 or 6 players!

A proven PL striker (Crouch for me)

A ball winning midfielder

A goal scoring midfield

A right back

A left back because I think Givet will leave

Maybe a striker with pace.

This summer transfer business will be massive for us and for Steve Kean! Massive test for Kean and the owners for where will finish! we need to be sign Quality Players and not players for the future only!

More like a massive test of Venkys's pocketbook. Quality in those 6 positions should cost us at least 25-30 million, unless Rochina and Formica are truly the goods.

i think Kalinic would play better if he plays in a 2 up front.

I agree with this. Hopefully Kalinic will be given a run out with RSC. I think they might be good for one another.

It's not 'bigging up' - it's thinking he deserves a chance and is doing ok in tough circumstances. What had he done to deserve the chance ? Do you not think that Macdonald had done more and at least had some sort of track record in management. If you ignore all of the sniders and the back-stabbing allegations [which have never actually ever been said or identified by Sam] plus the puppet stuff [which is equal tosh] then he is making a fair attempt of a tough ask.

Have you ever met Neil McDonald or Steve Kean?

why? have you? sure NM is more experience than Kean as manager

NM did a good job at Carlisle according to what some Carlisle fans told me!

anyway the owners were never going to keep him when they sacked SA!

Strange that he does well for Croatia and had an equally impressive record at Split. Yet he comes to us gets thrown in every now and then plus played in a system that isn't suited to his way of playing and he is suddenly rubbish. I suppose Torres is crap to by the same logic.

Benjani is a poor striker, Roberts works, works, works and works but can't score, Santa Cruz can't do it with no decent crosses coming in, Kalinic scores goals but doesn't get a chance. Crazy.

Ince had experience, look how that turned out

SK did a good job on Arsenal

just maybe he his getting it right, you have to learn somewhere

due to circumstance he is learning at Blackburn.

The crunch is at the end of the season, if we have a good finish it will be a tough call as to wether he stays or goes.

The Raos paId their money so it's their call

I have met Steve Kean a couple of years back and he is a nice guy - he was on an evening out with Chris Coleman (who was also decent to talk with).

Actually, yes. Met McDonald at a charity dinner and met Kean & Coleman at Coventry post match on one occasion. Not sure what that's got to do with it.

The facts speak for themselves Modes, I don't have to put a case forward.

Absolutely.

As posted on the other thread, Niko is also an intelligent player who finds space for himself in and around the box with good movement. He would have had a field day against Blackpool in the 2nd half when Hoilett cut ball after ball back but unfortunately, no one could either time their run or find the space.

Wasn't he sacked?

In his 1st season, he took Carlisle to top 10, their highest league position for many a year if my memory serves me correct.

The following season, the chairman did 'a Venkys' and sacked him for no apparent reason just as the season was about to start or had just started.

Golden rule of survival.... Beat the clubs around and below you.

Nothing at all new about that but it appears you and a lot of others seem to have forgotten it. Good display though it was at the Emirates the match v Brum is miles more important.

Both the arsenal game and the brum game were and are as important as each other. Rovers gained an unexpected point, just as wba got an unexpected 3 points v liverpool. Every single point in my view is vital to Rovers survival.

In my view Rovers did well yesterday. But the reality to me was that arsenal were, using wengers words flat. To me that was down to the international matches, which, rovers were able to profit from - thankfully. but Arsenal also had some vey good chances that they missed - on another day they would have gone in. Rovers as good as they were, also rode their luck.

Down to the international matches - and the Man Utd result. I think if Wham had held out for the win, we would have seen a different Arsenal yesterday.

I'm not certain about that, what would make them perform differently? Perhaps Kean adopting different tactics, Rovers players below form, Arsenal being more direct? I favour Kean and the team as much as a poor performance from Arsenal. Last ditch heroics from the likes of Olsson gives me the belief that the team are together and that Kean is a positive, not a negative influence.

Not true. Losing to Brum would hurt us far more that defeat by Arsenal - a classic 6-point swing against a rival team.

A point was welcome yesterday but not losing to Brum is more important.
