  1. 1. Should Steve Kean stay or go

Recommended Posts

Great performance against Arsenal by the Rovers at long last!! The first time under Kean that I have felt he set the team up not to concede a goal. Clean sheets guarantee points! Halleluha! I know it is not rocket science, but it is pleasing that the penny is starting to drop for him, albeit 4 months too late. I actually enjoyed watching us under Kean in this game, which is a first!

One up-front is clearly and has always been the way forward for our squad at this time and at long last our players looked very comfortable in the roles they were asked to play. Experimenting with two upfront for me is the single biggest reason we are in trouble at this time and it was pleasing that Kean avoided the unneccessary squad changes employed previously. Consistency is the hallmark of class!

Jermaine Jones was outstanding. Along with Ryan, Samba, Phil Jones, Ollson, Hoilett, Robinson and Nzonzi for 70 minutes or so. Impossible to pick a Rovers MOTM and some absolutely immense displays by all. Our younger players deserve massive credit for the way they have been performing. Clearly the players have realised the depth of our problems and do not wish to play in the Championship.

Pleasingly, the players have also shown of late that they are willing to give everything for the cause. You could argue this is the influence of the manager....or simply the fact that we have experienced professionals who know the dance, that understand and know they have badly underachieved under Kean this last few months and do not wish to play in the Championship. Take your pick.

However before people get all excited and trembly again, we hoped for at least four points from Blackpool and Arsenal, but only realistically expected three. We got two. So we are still performing below expectations (points wise) and STILL have it all to do.

Sorry to point out the blatantly obvious, but I make that 13 points from 14 games from 42 available under the new manager. It has been very poor. Relegation form for sure.

At the end of the day we got one point only from Arsenal. Dress it up how you like, but it added one point only to our tally. However, I am hopeful that this performance gives the squad huge belief and confidence again and it may well be a turning point. I hope so, as we simply cannot allow this manager to relegate us and the Birmingham game now is our biggest match of the season and one we simply must win.

The pressure been obviously been getting to some more than I thought and people have clearly been waiting for a decent result and an opportunity for some pedantic point scoring.

Now however is not the time for hasty conclusions or getting out the flags and banners celebrating. Many fell for this after the Liverpool game and we need to take it slowly, step by step. Arsenal were very poor and showed an amazing lack of fight for a team supposedly desperate to win to maintain a title challenge and I doubt we will benefit from such a lacklustre display off Birmingham where the emphasis will be on us to take the game to them.

I'll leave the imbecilic accusations and comments to Topman and yourself.

If you cannot tell by my knowledge and history that I am a Rover then your intelligence is even lower than I first thought.

For someone who has not made 1 positive comment about Black burn Rovers since returning to site after being banned, I have my doubts as to your validity mercerman.

I’m not going to waste my energy you, I think you’re an imposter like a few others do, if you’re not I apologies, but I think you are.

Ps - I'm an expert on the carrots, just look at some of my comments on the carrots site :D doesn't make me a fan, quite the opposite in fact :o

If he hasn't got one, the football authorities will care !!!

You mean the same authorities that we have to register him as manager with, and presumably they would need clarification of his qualifications in order to approve his role?

The FA are hardly likely to approve a manager with no qualifications if it is a requirement in the first place are they?

I will stand corrected if this is not the case, however I find it very hard to believe that the FA and the press are unclear if he has the relevent badges, particulary when they made such a big deal over Ince.

As Rovers fans (I use the term in its very losest form in your case) are we really that desperate now that we will use any stick to beat the manager with?

Perfect he aint, but this is going way past a joke........

Besides which, the players are still playing for him - yes, they do actually like him - and that is what matters. He has not, as many of us, believed lost the players and therefore deserves, whether we want him as manager or not, to be cut some slack. He wouldn't be my choice of manager but he's what we've got at the moment and apparently, though we all know that our owners have been known to send out, to put it politely, mixed messages, he's likely to remain what we've got for a while yet. Therefore it seems churlish in the extreme to keep questioning the validity or existence of his paper qualifications when you've seen it in writing that he has them and presumably those who need to have asked to see them, just like employers in other walks of life ask to see your A level or degree certificates. If not then they are being negligent. As I said - he's not my choice of manager, but I've always felt he deserved a chance. A few weeks ago I thought he'd blown the chance he's been given and would have gladly seen the back of him there and then, but it's too late now for this season - the upheaval caused by yet another change would do us no good at all - so we need to put personal preferences behind us for the next few weeks and let him get on with the job.

Kean OUT! It was only one match - I love the fickleness on here! Ohh kean is crap bla bla bla, we DRAW a game and most on here want to have his babies

Hardly, I think you will find that most would like to see him replaced in the summer, me included.

Besides, my post had nothing to do with the well earned draw against little old Arsenal, my post states that the constant attempts to belittle and undermime his position by suggesting he does not even have the qulaifications to be in the post is wrong.

Gumboots put it well, the players are playing for him and as long as they continue to do that then replacing him before the end of the season is not going to happen.

Not at all...I've not been shouting for him to be dumped..I still think he might have something about him but unless he keeps us up he's unlikely to be allowed to prove it one way or the other and quite right too. You seem to assume everyone wants him gone- I don't believe that's necessarily the case, rather a core group of agitators go on and on about it ad nauseum and basically bully those who are prepared to wait & see how it plays out.

Regarding Mercerman..I've suggested previously what several posters are alluding to.Namely, that it's hard to believe he's a Rover, such is the depth and consistency of his negativity. This badges nonsense is just the latest in a long, long line of s**t-stirring....

At least he has a badge - but Rovers should be aiming for a world class manager seeing as we play in the top league in Europe/World if I am not mistaken, not some lad that wasnt even assistant manager at the club. You wouldnt let a nurse operate on a patient because they had good ideas now would you? No I think you would be a bit worried if you were the patient

I prefer the word "cell"

Only a few key men know who the man at the top is, pulling the strings (and I don't mean the strings on Nicko).

They don't know each other, just their handlers. And if anyone is found in possession of a chickenshit handbook, there is plausible deniability.

Yeti-Dog, stalking and spouting more shyte about me yet again. You are rather sad.

It's a pity that this MB wasn't up and running during Kenny's successful reign. I think that you would have seen a much different tone from many on here including myself. If you had followed the club for as long as I have including when we were relegated from the old First Division in 1965/66 and when we were rock bottom of the old Third Division in the 1970's, you might understand a little more about how painful all these present shenanigans are to some of us.

As regards "This badges' nonsense", please at least get your facts right. I was responding after it had been raised by two other posters on the Paul Ince thread yesterday. As others have pointed out, no one can recall seeing Kean's name on any official list of UEFA Pro License holders which does seem rather odd.

Most FAs publish lists of their UEFA Pro License holders and I have not seen Kean's name on any of them yet. I agree he must have one as there is no way the football authorities would have let him take the post without the valid paperwork.

PS Just seen Steve Moss' post in the Ince thread that SK was due to get his license in Scotland in 2001.

Kean had his qualifications before the Pro License and so doens't need them because of his experience in the game. Quite a few Prem managers don't have one.

Kean was the "manager" at Fulham because Coleman didn't have the qualifications needed.

Can have all the pieces of paper you want mind you, you can still be rubbish.

For me rovers have issues getting players heads straight especially on foreign players.

I have to say I agree.
