[Archived] New Car!

Recommended Posts

The leg-iron got a new Peugeot107 this time last year.

She does 70miles a day & puts about £45 a week petrol in.

£35 a year road tax (it`s 1.0litre) & low insurance.......she loves it  it`s very girly (bright yellow)

Only problem she`s had is getting it broken into a few weeks ago. The thieves damaged passenger door lock & nicked both airbags!! (there`s a joke in there somewhere <_< ) & both seatbelts (the entire units) Police say it was all stolen to order.

She totally recommends the Pug107......but advises on getting one with alarm fitted!!!

It might be worth checking Perrys Mazda website for their Brownhill, Blackburn Garage.

That's a bit of a trek for me! Currently playing erdington Mazda off with Coventry!

Now can't decide on whether to get white or red one!!!! It's too hard to decide!!!!!

Hunt it over!!!!

I have just agreed a price with the Coventry Mazda for a Mazda 2 Takuya in Crystal White!!!! They think I will be able to have it in a fortnight. Think I have got a pretty good deal as it beats the target price on What Car by a couple of hundred and they have up'd their offer for the price of my current car.

Mrs Sidders has exacly the same model in silver. She moaned to the sales team at Perry's that my 3 Takuya had more bells and whistles so they gave her a free parrot thingy for her ipod.

I'm sure you'll love your car as my other half purrs about hers and talks to "him".

My plate ends in "OYY" so it's called "Delihla"

Think Tom Jones. Even though it went "Why why why Delihla?"

If you want to call him "Colin" I'd be honoured :brfcsmilie:

Cheers

Odd and irrational thing to give a car a name. I think it's an age thing. My first car was a mini van which I christened Ludwig. Since then they've all had the same name.... micar. Even odder is that I can easily rem the reg number of my scooter and Ludwig but I cant rem the reg of any car since. Even with my current car I don't know the reg unless I take a look.

btw Lad I knew at skoo was called Colin and we amended that to Niloc.... had a much better ring to it. ^_^

Currently driving a VW Passat 1.9 TDi. It's done 131,000 miles and I keep losing water. Got it checked out by 3 garages. 1st one said my head gasket has blown, the other thinks it's the heater matrix and the 3rd thought it was a faulty water pump.

So got my water pumped checked and heater matrix. Heater matrix seems fine, can't be the radiator as it was only replaced a few months ago. Water pump had minor leaks which were then sealed and a broken peice of plastic was found in my thermostat. This was removed but my water level is still going down gradually.

I am not losing as much water as before, however, whenever I do open my water cap, a thrust of pressure is released (like opening a bottle of pop). Rang the garage up again this morning, and now he seems to think it is the head gasket. There are no visible leaks either.

VW specialist said he's never come across a blown head gasket on a VW Passat.

Anyone know the costs of replacing one?

Don't know your circumstances pal but I chased good money after bad when my trusty Citroen started to die. The french wagon had gone round the clock twice and was in terminal decline. For a poxy £180 a month I got an almost knew motor with every bit of it working and guaranteed.

They give cars away these days, sack the VW

It's not cheap. They have to skim part of the engine. I think it's the engine block.

He said as a rough estimate I am looking around £500. It will be cheaper for me to sort out the head gasket than to buy a new car. I only need my car for another 4 months, and buying a new car will cost me more than the repairs, and on top of that I will have to pay more insurance money for the new policy.

If I was to sell this car I'd get next to nothing with the head gasket blown.

Just my luck I guess. Most people I've spoken to have said they've never seen head gaskets blown on a VW so just pot luck.

Other than that, it is a fantastic car to drive. Never had any major problems with it or costs. Would love to keep hold of it, but may have no choice.

I wouldn't dive into the chg changing option until I was sure that thats was the culprit. If the water temp is warm or hot there is always a release of pressure when the rad cap is taken off.

1. If car stuff works as they used to a blown head gasket would prob show a creamy deposit inside the oil cap. A simple check would show it.

2. Did it leak before the rad was replaced? If not most likely thing is a hose damaged or wrongly fitted. Even a faulty radiator could be the culprit. Never discount this as radiators are paper thin and are easily damaged when being fitted etc. This would most likely be shown up by a simple pressure test.

3 Heater? Again at that age it could be the hoses persishing and leaking through a hole the size of a pin prick.

Thanks theno.

1. I have been told that is one of the signs of a blown head gasket, and when I have checked the oil cap it seems to be fine. No creamy deposit as you said.

2. It did leak before the radiator was replaced, however, once it was replaced it was fine up until 2 weeks ago, when I started losing water. The garage which I am going to take my car to tonight said they will conduct a pressure test and he has looked at every possible option before opening the car up to check the head gasket. They've checked the heater matrix, water pump, water cap, radiator and checked for visible leaks. None of this came up with a problem other than the water pump, which was sealed in the 2 areas that it was leaking.

I don't check the water when the car is warm, I checked it in the morning when the engine is cool and still this pressure was being released. I have another Audi and VW Passat in my garage, and when I open the water caps on these cars, no pressure is being released.

Hannah they are cool now on the 'drog scale' of coolness. I'd have had one in December except they had a 5 month waiting list! Ended up with a Subaru Outback instead..... I just hope nothing breaks for a while given the possible problems with spare parts.

Mercs, BMW's and Audi's are only desired by flash gits, pushy upwardly mobiles who know the cost of everything and the value of nowt and young taxi drivers who like to share car ownership between half a dozen of em. Uncool and turning to cold in this neck of the woods. ;)

Wow, first time I have been called a flash git, pushy upwardly mobiles who know the cost of everything and the value of nowt and Uncool and turning to cold in this neck of the woods.

I am flattered. Not that I need to desire a Merc having already got one and so-well engineered as to be left in awe of the thing.

Sounds about right.

Does your car have a cam belt or a chain? If its a belt then it might be worth getting a new one fitted at the same time as they are taking the head off.

I'll second that. My son had a cam belt break on him a month ago. He finished up having to buy a reconditioned engine. Cost him over a grand. A new cam belt is as cheap as chips.

Thanks for all the input guys!

On my way to the garage, going for a pressure test first, if no leaks are apparent, the head gasket will need skimming.

btw ... The garage next to our office had a top of the range Merc 320S that (some flash git owned :P ) and was in dock cos it kept losing water and overheating. Turned out it was a faulty water pump which had been very difficult to detect cos it didn't show up with a normal pressure test and the water was leaking out only when it was running. No idea why that would be and I'm past the limit of my mechanical knowledge now. Good luck.
