[Archived] Rovers to Play in India - Pre-season

Recommended Posts

Out of interest was it ever announced who we were playing and at which football stadium the game was to be played?

Before we go blaming "Senior Pros" for the postponement perhaps someone can tell us which team we have let down at the 11th hour. Anyone?

Or who were planning on playing?

I've got to say, Nicko's articles are becoming more and more sensationalist at the moment. I've always had respect and shown gratitude for the inside info he has been able to provide but his recent articles are beginning to show an agenda outside of the usual gun run, news reporting. Although, there is nothing to suggest that his story is false by any means, the angle he has decided to choose shows a hostility and contempt beyond what I would consider 'healthy', for the lack of a better word.

I am sure in a situation such as this, the players have every right to say they don't want to be going to a country where attacks have recently taken place, that would have been respected and understood by the club, I am sure. In a situation so delicate where senior pro's have children and family to consider, football has to take a back seat and obviously this has proved to be the case.

So, coming back to my point, why should the article take on any other 'aggressive' stance over an issue which is actually quite sensitive? Nicko's loyalties clearly lie with some party, however, I would try to persuade all Rovers fans not to allow an article such as this, to disaffect their own opinion any further. Things are already difficult enough without every issue actually taking on a venomous spin.

I respect Nicko for the accuracy of his stories, and for sharing them with us, but to take on such an aggressive angle over such a delicate issue, is actually quite disappointing.

Maybe there are reasons for doing so. You only have to read this MB to know people have aggressive feelings towards the owners etc (as an example).

I agree in the circumstances not wanting to go to India due to bomb scares etc, isn't a reflection on the owners or the club. But India/ political situation / and the idiots setting bombs off. None of this can be laid at the feet of venkys.

What it does do is call into question venkys plans for Rovers to be big in India. Until the situation in India is sorted out once and for all, then the trip should be cancelled, not just postponed.

JR has been hanging out with some Bollywood celebs in Pune, now heading to Mumbai.

Sounds very positive, maybe Jase could become one of our embasadors or something.

I'd rather Kean be back sorting out the transfers (or lack of) and Jase be practicing his finishing.

Jase doesn't need to practice his finishing

I've got a feeling that the trip to India in October is going to have a disastrous effect on us, if were on a bad run, a free week should be spent on the training pitch, not on a PR stunt halfway across the world!
