tcj_jones Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 PFA Player of the Year Nominees: Bale, Van Der Vaart, Tevez, Vidic, Parker, Adam, Nasri. I'm really surprised that Nani hasn't been nominated for the main award. He's been fantastic all season and, prior to the names being announced, I thought he'd be one of the front runners. I'm finding it incredibly difficult to choose a winner, or even a top three. I'd go for any one/three from Tevez, Nani, Vidic, and Adam. PFA Young Player: Bale, Nasri, Hart, Wilshere, Coleman, Nani, Hernandez. I think it's really stupid that a player can win both awards. I don't think the likes of Bale, Nasri, and Nani should be included. Therefore, I think it would have to be one of Hart or Wilshre. What do you guys think?

beerwins Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Parker, the job he has done down there has been massive for the club, he, for me has given the team hope (worse luck for us) not Grant, add to some good January signings which could well see Wet spam stay up. The others, Well maybe Van der Vaart has adapted very well to the pace of the prem but the rest have had the performances that should be expected of their salaries, Adam is a very good passer of the ball but fades in and out of games (highly overated) Vaughn for Bpool is a better player as many have suggested. Young player, Bale, been by far the best player on his day and even not on his day is a constant threat.
Roversi Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 PFA Award: Scott Parker Young PFA Award: Gareth Bale
Backroom Tom Posted April 8, 2011 Backroom Posted April 8, 2011 Not sure about player of the year it's hardly been vintage for anyone but Bale for young player. Wilshere should win the 'over rated because he's english' award
Stuart Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Very poor list of nominees. Not really seen enough of Parker and don't have any soft spots for West Ham. With possible exception of Mick Brown. If he was a Rovers player he wouldn't have made that list. Vidic is a rock for this season's probable league champions and has been missed when injured. I've struggled to pick a "best player" this season although Tottenham have surely been "most improved team". Hence two players nominated. Prediction: Scott Parker Oh, and Gareth Bale is a shoe-in for YP. What a shame Phil Jones didn't stay fit. It would have been great to moan about his omission. He'll probably win next year for being on the bench at Chelsea.
tcj_jones Posted April 9, 2011 Author Posted April 9, 2011 Hmmm in retrospect I think I might not have given Bale enough credit because he was unstoppable first half of the season. However, like Van der Vaart, he's faded second half and been absent through injury. I think the likes of Nani, Tevez, Parker, Adam, and Vidic have been excellent thoughout the season. I'm edging toward Vidic for the main award and I guess Bale for young player, though I really think he should only be nominated for one of the awards. Jisty, I actually disagree on the quality of the candidates. I think it's a very strong list, but many have come from some unlikely sources. Vidic has been unbelievable, but is forgotten about because he is a defender. Adam and Parker have played just as well as many past candidates playing for top clubs and have been absolutely integral to their club's fortunes. Tevez has been brilliant and banged in the goals. Nasri and Van der Vaart were exceptional first half of the season, though both have faded. True, there isn't an oustanding candidate like there was with Rooney last year, but it's a strong list IMO, and it's extremely difficult to call.
Stuart Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Fair enough TJ. But for me these aren't anywhere near as strong as previous seasons and there are plenty of high profile absentees. Rooney's form has taken a big dip this season. Drogba is past his sell-by date. Gerrard and Lampard are shadows of their former selves. Most of the list are half season wonders and there has been a massive absence of consistency - save Vidic. Tevez could be up there but hasn't really stood out this season possibly due to being in a defensive style Mancini side. Adam is a free kick specialist in a Championship side. Plus we no longer have anywhere near the class of Ronaldo, Henry, Bergkamp, Shearer. The " Best League in the World" should be showcasing better in it's end of season hall of fame.
RIML Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Not sure about player of the year it's hardly been vintage for anyone but Bale for young player. Wilshere should win the 'over rated because he's english' award Totally agree, one of my friends (a United fan) voted for Wilshere instead of Hernandez on that question on facebook. I asked him why and said he's a good passer and he'll be the next Gascoigne but the least I expect from a midfielder playing for Arsenal is to be a good passer, he's scored one goal and assisted in two others in the Prem and for a team like Arsenal who create loads of chances that's really poor imo. Looking at Gascoigne's record when he was 18 playing for Newcastle......9 league goals. Even if Wilshere's supposed to be a holding midfielder or whatever he is, I still expect him to chip in with a few more goals. Maybe he will next season, I must say I like the way he seems to glide around the field but that's about it, nothing special imo just another over-hyped English player
Billy Castell Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Tevez/Hernandez In reality, I'd give Phil Jones both awards because I am biased.
RIML Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 I forgot to mention this stat regarding Hernandez - Javier Hernandez has scored 11 goals from just 15 shots on target in the Premier League this season. He already has a decent goalscoring record in his first season in the Prem and that goal he scored against Stoke, I've never seen anything like it.
RibbleValleyRover Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 I would probably pick Parker or Vidic as player of the year, they have been consistent pretty much all season so far unlike Bale and Nasri. Young player will probably go to Wilshere though I think he's well overrated. I agree with Jisty and others about the lack of quality this season.
Ste B Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 The PFA votes tend to cast just after halfway through the season - i'd be expecting Bale / Nani to win based on that. If Bale doesnt win player of the year, he will win the young player award.
Guest linganzi Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 tevez/ vidic from the players young player, well thats just a rather tedious shower of flavour of the month f##kards
LeChuck Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Nani easily. Consistently scored and created goals all season. No-one else comes close for me. I dare say he's entering Ronaldo territory in terms of effectiveness, I think he's that good.

Couldn't agree more. A poor show from the Premier League Vidic or Parker for me Probably Bale for young player but you can't overlook Coleman at Everton who has had an outstanding first season.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted April 10, 2011 Moderation Lead Posted April 10, 2011 Parker- -player of the year Nasri-young player of the year Adam is so shockingly over-rated, I can't believe he's even in the running. I only assume it's because he plays for Blackpool and their 'breath of fresh air' brand of football........
Hughesy Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Do not agree with the list - when Nani isnt on it.....he has been superb this season when it matters, where as Bale is a one trick pony. Its bizarre that hes included in the young one, but not the main one. So for that reason id name him the young one. Give the main one to Van Der Vaart

Wilshere is clearly quality - if you can't see that then there's no hope for you.
Roverdale Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Mauro Formica for young player of the year for his unparalleled ability to cause so much publicity and subsequently reveal he doesn't actually play football.
RIML Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Oh dear. Wilshere is clearly quality - if you can't see that then there's no hope for you. What is so quality about him? He got another assist against Blackpool today by the way and I think he tried chipping the keeper, was unlucky not to score but he also made a bad tackle and was rightly booked. He's ok but nothing special. I just don't get my hopes up with these English players, people go on about them like they're world-beaters and when it comes to World/European competitions we then see how good they really are. EDIT: I've just read this and the reasons why he should win it are rubbish imo Why Jack Wilshere Deserves the 2011 PFA Young Player Of The Year Award "He is calm on the ball, and his pinpoint accuracy when passing is at times breathtaking" Is that it

To be playing week in week out for a top 4 club at his age shows he is world class
