Gav Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I don't like him,I don't think he's a good manager, and very often wastes money. The guy won La Liga twice, the Uefa Cup and champion’s league from memory, so to say he’s not a good manager is mind boggling Jimmy. He won’t come here that’s for sure, but if he did, we’d have made probably the biggest managerial appointment in the clubs history.

RibbleValleyRover Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I don't like him,I don't think he's a good manager, and very often wastes money. I'm not his biggest fan either due to the rotation policy, overly defensive tactics and doubts about his ability in the transfer market. That being said if it was a choice of Kean or Rafa it's a no-brainer, Rafa all the time.
Mattyblue Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I'm with Gav (shock horror ), despite all the rumours I would be amazed if he pitched up here. But for those saying he's a bad manager, come on look at the bigger picture- big name, can attract players, won't be pushed around by know nowt owners and Agents and after this utter shambles of a season I would be cock a hoop.
Gav Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I'm with Gav NO YOU'RE NOT I hear Benitez is being lined up for the City job.
Jimmy612 Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 NO YOU'RE NOT I hear Benitez is being lined up for the City job. Good, he can have it
Guest linganzi Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Were you drunk when you posted this nonsense ? 1 Munich, bradford etc course we hear about it, but not an annual witch hunt, just accept tragedy the way others manage to and move on. Typical scouse way, Michael shields ? Who can we blame for that one, heysel too. Boris Johnson was right scousers love a bit of tragedy 2 Roy had a fair amount of time with us, and we had also won the big cup recently unlike Lpool. 3 they are currently closer to us now in the grand scheme of things , well we played them off the park.
Hughesy Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Gotta laugh at the scousers One minute they bang on about the most titles....now thats about to go pop they change to '5 European cups'. We could do that....how about '1 premier league' or '3 FA Cups in a row'? As for '5 European Cups'.....check out Real Madrid they have more....oh and guess what, "Special one" is still in, Rafa is no longer even in a job!
Mattyblue Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Who says he is a Scouser? They have as many plastic fans as Man Yoo By the way, you would never see a Yernited fan on a Rovers board giving it large, theres the difference!

If this was true then I hope both play well into their 50's, horrible club.

Not sure he's wrong though, although it's an entirely different matter which I don't want to go into. At least once United wrap up the title this season that's one less thing for Liverpool fans to bleat about. I hate arrogant fans of teams like Liverpool and even West Ham who think their clubs are somehow special, 'The Liverpool Way' my arse.
A cup of beans Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Not sure he's wrong though, although it's an entirely different matter which I don't want to go into. i agree with you, put people cant go on about "scousers loving a bit of tragedy etc..." its indefensible. i agree with you other points TCO. i had friends that attended the champs lge final in athens... they witnessed lfc fans stealing tickets for their own supporters, some of them children, and flashing a cigarette packet to gain access to the stadium, because it looked like a ticket. but as in the other bit about tragedy, you cant blame people, all fans and the city as a whole.
Guest linganzi Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 It's just a case of their martyrdom when somehow there is more tragedy associated with others combined, its no coincidence and don't they like to remind us how hard they have it. Your point re Gerrard etc is a good one too
tony gale's mic Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 The guy's pretty much won every major trophy possible in the two leagues he's spent significant amount of time in (Inter he only had half a season) apart from the Premier League title- and even that he got far, far closer to than Liverpool ever got since their heyday. It's not like he took over a Chelsea, Man U, Barca or Real Madrid either. Yes, he had some bad signings. The transfer market wasn't his strongest point, but then he made plenty of good ones too - and there's a very long list of poor SAF signings. Yes, he spent quite a bit of money. But he got results with the money he spent, and when he got Liverpool to two CL finals and won La Liga twice with Valencia he outperformed sides who'd spent a lot more than he had. But at the end of the day the guy is very good at winning football matches. And that's all there is to it. If he'd come it would be a huge moment for Rovers, but I don't see it happening.
imy9 Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Just to highlight how good Rafa's Valencia were in Spain, in the last ten years in Spain, Real and Barca have won La Liga 8 times the other two times Valencia won the title under Rafa.
47er Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Rafa would not be the biggest managerial appointment in the history of our club. That accolade will always rest with King Kenny. I see Rafa as a "cheque-book manager" without the skills and patience to develop young players. Not right for us. Anyway, since we have the little matter of staying up to think about, its all irrelevant at this time.

Every manager who has achieved what Rafa has achieved in the game has spent vast amounts of money, at least in the era of the Champions League. Most have spent a lot more than Rafa.

tony gale's mic Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I'd hope they have achieved more with it then. Rafa won everything there was to win in his time in Spain and England apart from the Premier League, where he got Liverpool much closer than they ever got since their glory days.
tony gale's mic Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 ...."apart from the Premier League"!! Yeah, so? He was up against Mourinho and Ferguson, who are both better managers (all time greats) and who both spent more money too. La Liga twice, Champions League win plus one runner up, FA Cup, Spanish League and Premier League runners up. That's a mighty impressive haul for Valencia and Liverpool.
Gav Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Rafa would not be the biggest managerial appointment in the history of our club. That accolade will always rest with King Kenny. I disagree, to attract a manager with Rafas CV would be a much greater achievement in the current climate, than when Kenny came. Not that he's coming here anyway, but still. Rafa won everything there was to win in his time in Spain and England apart from the Premier League The premier league is rather important trophey missing though TGM
Mattyblue Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 How many PL winners are we going to attract? Christ, after Ince and Kean over the last 3 years. I am aghast people can knock a possible Rafa appointment.
