[Archived] Sam Allardyce Messiah or simply a good manager?

Not sure what all the fuss is about.

Sam obviously peeved last summer as not backed in the market. Had to feed on scraps like Benjani & Diouf. Did he walk out like many other managers have done when there have been attractive offers, no, he buckled down to honour his contract and continue the great progress made in the previous season and a half.

Not rocket science but new owners, new agenda and the rest, most unfortunately, is history.

IMO, he';s done nothing wrong, however, unfortunately for the club and supporters, Venky's will reap what they have sown.

I think once money was available (if it actually is or not) Allardyce would certainly have be much more interested in keeping this job. He never had a chance with financial backing, shame really because I think he would do ok. Managers never get long enough to build a team these days

Maybe, maybe not. He was out of contract in the summer and he clearly fancies a job managing in UAE, giving him funds in January would have been a waste as he wouldn't be building a team for the future, just a team the rest of the season.

Or they could have held back on the funds in January, going back on their word (not that they haven't done that before) and still come out looking like the bad guy.

He got financial backing at Newcastle.

Of course Venkys could have just offered him a new contract to see where his loyalties layed

Yes but thats my point, I think with financial backing he would have wanted to create something at Rovers, tried to do what he did at Bolton. I think in the summer when no funds were made available he would have been ###### off. He had already mentioned that he wanted Raul and Guti, and that those deals were done if it wasn't for a lack of funds.

His financial backing at Newcaslte lasted all of about 4 months. The stupid fans started protesting and he was sacked. I'm talking about proper backing. Owners allowing him to build his team, rather than expecting him to do wonders with players which aren't his.

I think that Sam would have done well but we will never know.

The only way we will ever know if is he does it at another club in the future.

Come on Jimmy, he took the job on the understanding that he'd be working on a limited budget, then we get the takeover and funds are frozen, quite rightly so, and he tries to jump ship! That alone is reason in my book to sack the guy, he's hardly committed to the cause now is he?

Should Hughes have been sacked when he was sniffing around the Newcastle job?

It'll take relegation for some to learn their lesson it seems.

Also zacc we will not get a high calibre manager even if we sack Kean. We will get a Kentaro / SEM yes man and thats that. There is big money to be made by some if we stay up and BRFC is a long way down the list. Mrs rao is out of her depth and from the noises that I am hearing still trusts her advisors implicitly.

Like Gav, waggy, topman etc you simply are not able to see beyond the end of your nose.

the summer and next season will see who's correct, wont it gordon ? ;)

i didnt say we definetly would get a high calibre manager, but if we do, and

if rovers stay up and start well next season, the sacking of the fat man will be forgotten... thats the nature of football.

oh BTW. what noises are you hearing from mrs rao ???

Newcastle didn't want Hughes, Allardyce asked to leave, big difference.

I bet Inter were just about to sack Mourinho when he said he was going to Madrid.

I bet we were desperate to sack Hughes when he expressed an interest in both the Chelsea and the Man City job.

It happens all the time Gav, managers want new things for their own reason. Quite obvious that Allardyce wanted to leave (whatever his reasons were), I don't understand why this is such a big problem

Funds frozen rightly so? What, so we could give our money to this clown? doing everything that Anderson tells him? (Please don't use that word again) me

Sam's ego wouldn't let him bow out quietly. He has to have the last word.... again...and again.... and again.

Same with most top managers

Really? I don't see Chris Hughton going on and on after he was kicked out of Newcastle in a similar situation. The man's got class, that's why.

Sam wanted that particular job offer partly because of the money and probably partly because he felt that without further investment, he'd taken Rovers as far as he felt he could. Certainly Birmingham aside, us finishing above any of the other teams last season would be unrealistic without much more investment.

cos he'd taken rovers as far as he can.... ???

dont agree as that contradicts many of Sam's press and tv interviews.

sam has gone on record as saying he was disappointed not to being given the chance to invest in the squad and see how the young players introduced by him would develope in the future.

i believe the only consideration to move to the UAE would be (drumroll).....................

££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££

i dont believe anyone honestly believes sam wouldve gone their for footballing reasons... but many will use it as an excuse to aid their own pro- sam arguments.

Yeh he said that after Venkys had bought the club. He wanted to leave in the summer, keep up Zacc

When has Sam 'gone on and on'?

numerous examples... tv, radio and newspaper interviews, since his sacking.

on tv; most recently, on espn before the arsenal game.... and everytime ive had the misfortune to hear him on talks**** on the radio

Gav, when did Sam try and leave? Don't recall any proof of that?

have you read the gulf press matty ? there's quotes from the man himself.

so you dont see any contradictions! ?? in what sam has said in his interviews about wanting to stay and the argument that he had taken rovers as far as he could! ?:rolleyes:

no i said 'top managers' topman

i agree 100% with topman... hughton has conducted himself brilliantly. sam has not.

i'll forgive him the outburst immediately after the sacking... but to continually bring it up at every opportunity is a bit much.

as i said last week.. id be very surprised if a big club eg an everton or aston villa type club, appointed sam.

from what we read and hear on radio phone ins, he is not well liked by the majority of football fans... for the image he portrays of himself and his brand of football.

What that he thought money was going to be available so that he could build a squad and progress it? Rather than in the summer, being rejected any wage allowances to bring in his two main targets, therefore preventing further progression of the club?

I repeat--we were constantly told on here not to bring up the subject of Sam again. It was boring, he wasn't coming back, we should get behind the new manager, time to move on etc etc.

Until you find something you think discredits him of course!

Sam's ego wouldn't let him bow out quietly. He has to have the last word.... again...and again.... and again.

Unlike yourself!

I don't care what you said. Hughton did a superb job of rebuilding Newcastle, as Sam did with Rovers, and got booted by the owner in favour of their 'chosen one'. Yet I don't see Hughton popping up every two seconds to remind us what he would have achieved at Newcastle, or how he was planning to leave all along, anything to save face etc.
