Not sure about one that gives football updates but some good android apps i have are:-

Opera Mini (better than original internet browser)

Double Twist (Music Player)

G Tunes (Free Music Download Service)

Tapatalk (Forum Browser, this site is compatible)

Tube Mate (You Tube Downloader)

My Player (BBC IPlayer)

GameBoid (GameBoy Advance Emulator)

Cheers Brian, just installed DroidWall. No more turning 3G off every time I want to play Angry Birds. I'll have a look at more of those when I get home (Audiogalaxy Music sounds excellent if it streams over the network and not through internet usage).

i currently have the Blackberry 9700 Bold. I also now have the HTC Desire, so yes on Android now. :)

will be getting rid of the Blackberry, as somebody knocked into me and my screen went blank. managed to get it back to normal again, but it will now and then go to a white screen. Oh well.

i wasnt too sure Lechuck of what i really wanted in terms of an Android device, but ive settled with the Desire, as the guys around here seems to be loving it.

have you installed this Lec?

App 2 SD Pro (move apps to SD)

"App 2 SD helps you to move apps to either external or internal storage thru' the system Settings. This app is crucial to anyone who has memory management issues."

seems this has been an issue with the Desire, where you cant install apps directly onto the SD card.

ESPN Goals is good for score updates. also gives you tables, fixtures and results over a season

You can have apps on the SD card if you've updated to Android 2.2 or higher.

You would need to "root" the phone to install App 2 SD pro.

is Froyo now available via OTA on the Desire? i checked updates, but nothing, unless my network has not made it available. Any suggestions if i could upgrade to 2.2 Froyo via the HTC website?

Posted

froyo 2.2 has been available OTA on the desire for ages and 2.3 is due out in the next few weeks...

do u have WiFi hotspot? one way to check if u actually have it... it will be down by the bottom of your apps? u might already have 2.2 if ur checking for it and its not coming up?

as for the apps2sd... the won't move everything to SD card nor with the version in the 2.2 update... I find them both as useless as each other

how do you completely close an app or browser? Ive heard advanced task killer, but also heard that it is not a good idea to use it.

Posted

on the HTC Desire

menu > settings > applications > manage applications > running > then choose the desired app > then force stop, this will force the app to close... no need for any advance task killer that will just add more power in eating ones battery

Posted

is this like on a pc/Mac, where if you cannot close a program, then you force it to quit? Sounds horrible though, and the one thing i didnt like about Winmo devices and task manager.

Posted

Why not just try Advanced Task Killer? You can get rid if you don't like it.

I use it and it keeps my phone running smoothly. I haven't looked into the effects on the battery, but surely it will improve battery life by making sure less processes are running in the background?

il give ATK a go, and see how it performs. Ive read that it is heavy on the battery, so the guys suggested not using it. It was said, that Android normally will auto close apps, that are not being used.

Posted

my htc desire doesnt close things if not being used i wish it did... i just see no need in a task manager if i can close them myself by following the simple steps i posted, each to their own tho i suppose

ATK kills about 20 apps in one go for me, it's amazing how many things start running that I don't want. It would take a while to manually close those.

Perhaps it's less important on the HTC, but the SF isn't as powerful so it does make quite a difference on my phone.

is Astro file manager the only way to install apps via pc? are there other ways to just install via pc? im liking advanced task killer, but i normally just switch off my 3G connection, o turning off internet when i dont use it

no you can use adb which comes with the development kit (or with firmwares from xda-developers) or I believe there is a package installer option with the HTCsync software.

Personally though, I do dump the package on the SD card and then install through Astro. Far less hassle.

anybody using juice defender?

All it does is to tell you how to save power, all the "tips" for doing this are obvious anyway. Don't pay for it.
