Hughesy Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Simple really.....should Rovers find the points needed to stay in this league, which players would you keep and who would you look to get rid of (yes we know we need to find buyers/ other clubs for the players). Also what positions do you feel we need to improve on first??? Key to future: Robinson, Samba, Jones, NZonzi (would sell if deal was right), Olsson, Hoilett, Rochina WILL be staying anyway: Roberts, Nelsen & Salgado have all signed extensions Keep to give potential a chance: Hanley, Formica, Bunn, Kalinic, Ramm The rest: Andrews, Grella, Brown, Emerton, Dunn, RSC, E Diouf, Benjani, MGP, Givet, Doran, Benjani & Goulan could all leave for me if the deal was right for the club..... Key areas of improvement - Central midfielder, striker (ideally 2) & both full backs (or left wing if you shift Olsson to Left back) Id also like to see us take on J Jones on a permanent deal if hes not too expensive.....possibly Mame Diouf dependent on how much they want.

ABBEY Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 keep andrews ...we have not won a game since you praised the lord about him being injured
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 I'd like us to keep as much of the youth kids as possible, especially Jones, Hoilett etc. If we got promoted straight away their value would triple, look at Andy Carroll. The likes of Emerton, Roberts and Pedersen would destroy the Championship imo.
LeChuck Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Not really worth thinking about. If we go down we're not coming back up. Everyone will be gone within a few years if we go down. Look how quickly Middlesbrough team has become void of PL quality players.
RevidgeBlue Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 The likes of Emerton, Roberts and Pedersen would destroy the Championship imo. . Would destroy us more like. They would need to be the first three out of the door. Overpaid past it and not up for rolling their sleeves up in a lower League.
A cup of beans Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Not really worth thinking about. If we go down we're not coming back up. Everyone will be gone within a few years if we go down. Look how quickly Middlesbrough team has become void of PL quality players. middlesbro invested in substandard scottish premier league players. rovers wont. but we may have 2.. with blackman and diouf returning!
vintageadidas Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 It's a little like when i tidy the house. Should i keep it? Should i bin it? In most cases i bin it, never miss it and buy something better further down the line. I would build a team around the youth with some new faces that have pace.
LeChuck Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 middlesbro invested in substandard scottish premier league players. rovers wont. We wouldn't because we don't have a dedicated owner like Middlesbrough have. Gibson is still putting in cash to try and sort problems. The top end of the Championship is full of stable Championship clubs, teams that have been built over long periods of time to be successful in that league. It's incredibly naive to think we'll come back up if we go down. Very few clubs do.
chaddyrovers Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 I think we should try to sign PSV winger Balazs Dzsudzsak for the left wing. very good player. would cost about 10 million pounds
LeChuck Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 This is supposed to be if we stay up, right guys? Oops. You're right! Apologies for that extra bit of unneeded negativity. So..errr...who would I keep. Robinson, Bunn Emerton, Samba, Nelsen, Jones, Hanley, Olsson, Morris Hoilett, Dunn, N'Zonzi, Formica, Jones (if possible) Kalinic, Rochina, Benjani That leaves us needing a quality striker and a lot of midfielders. So same as every transfer window for the last few years then.
RevidgeBlue Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Stay up or go down, the answer really is the same. Would definitely like to keep: Robinson Phil Jones Samba Olsson Hoillett. Nelsen and Givet are ok at their best but one's fitness and the other's commitment may be in question. The new lads Rochina and Fornica might also be ok but we haven't seen enough of them to make a decision. The rest......dear me, a huge rebuilding operation is needed whichever way it goes. The problem as always will be that if we go down the first players we'll lose are the ones we want to keep and the ones we want to get shut of we'll be stuck with.
BangkokRover Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 I think we should try to sign PSV winger Balazs Dzsudzsak for the left wing. very good player. would cost about 10 million pounds Let us know when you wake up.
Alan75 Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 It will be difficult to get rid of a number of players - didnt Kean renew a number of player contracts as soon as he was appointed.
philipl Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 What a dumb thread. Let's divide and demotivate the players so they cannot keep us up as we have created yet another reason for some of them to perform poorly.
Amo Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Like Revidge, ideally I'd like to keep the same players either way. It would be easier to post who I'd ditch next season: OUT: Andrews, Grella, Pedersen, Goulon, E. Diouf, Benjani, *Kalinic. * If he isn't going to get look-in next season, might as well cash-in while we can. I'd add Roberts to that list, but there's only so much money to go around and he has signed a new contract. Of course, finding homes for these elite will be a nightmare.
Mafioso Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Robinson, Samba, Jones, Olsson, Hoilett, Nzonzi, Rochina. (No Brainers) Nelsen, Givet, Pedersen, Dunn, Formica, Hanley, Diouf, Salgado, Roberts, Benjani, Kalinic. (Rotation or squad players) Emerton (only at RB and far away from set pieces) Morris, Lowe, Blackman (All 3 for the future) Grella, Andrews, Goulon, Brown, Zurab (Can all leave) I know Middlesbrough and many others have been relegated and have failed to regain promotion, but we must also look at other teams such as Newcastle, Birmingham, WBA, Wolves, Sunderland and of course OURSELVES! Teams that have all been relegated and regained promotion. Middlesborough had their squad built around Downing and once he left his replacement was also snapped up. Newcastle managed to keep 2 full Argentina internationals playing in the championship so I doubt it will be such an impossible task to keep some of our talent. It wouldnt be fair to call Hoilett an uncapped player, and Olsson a Sweden newbie. however keeping 2 players like Coluccini and Jonas, regardless of them not being Samuel and Messi, representing a nation such as Argentina at a world cup while playing in the championship gives me that little bit of faith. Anyway as others have said this is a "If we stay up" Thread. So I'll try to keep the faith in the team.
Backroom Tom Posted April 19, 2011 Backroom Posted April 19, 2011 Let us know when you wake up. He's like this every transfer window, if someone scores a goal on TV you can guarantee he will suggest him the day after, I think a break from this site will be needed during the summer for me, it will drive me insane with the speculation or the mood will be so low after relegation it will drive me to depression. On topic it's hard to say really because you can only sell who people want to sign, my first bit of business would be to try and tie Hoilett down though. If we could find a buyer then I'd get shut of Grella, Emerton, Goulon and potentially Pedersen if suitable cover for the left was brought in. I'd offer Benji a year extention and get rid of either Roberts or Niko if we could bring in 2 new strikers.
rebelmswar Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 I think we should try to sign PSV winger Balazs Dzsudzsak for the left wing. very good player. would cost about 10 million pounds Its like shopping with my wife.
chaddyrovers Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Its like shopping with my wife. you must be skint then
rebelmswar Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Good comeback! Please explain. I have no idea what was meant by that.
Steve Moss Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 I'd keep most of the youth, including Linganzi, Doran, Gunning, Fielding, Blackman, Lowe and Alley. As to the loanees, I would part with M. Diouf and RSC. I would try to keep J. Jones. As to the regular first team, I think we should keep the following: Keepers: Robbo, Bunn Backs: Salgado & Nelson (both as a transition into coaching year), Samba, Hanley, P. Jones., J. Morris, Mid: Hoillett, Olsson, N'Zonzi. Forwards: Kalinic, Rochina. I think the above would form strong core for a very good squad. We would need 1 RB, 1 LB, about 5 mids, and 2 forwards to round out the squad. If we focused on quality, we're about 60 million away from having a top 8 club. Less if we had Hughes and his eye for inexpensive talent. To make room on the wage bill, and to get rid of the slackers, emotional basket cases, over the hill, and/or unlucky, we need to show the following the door: Givet, Emerton, MGP, Dunn, Grella, Andrews, Benjani, Roberts, Goulon, EHD, Zurab, Brown and Rigters. A big question mark next to Formica's name.
LeChuck Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Please explain. I have no idea what was meant by that. I think the joke was that you'd be skint if your wife's shopping list had $10 million items on it.
rebelmswar Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 I think the joke was that you'd be skint if your wife's shopping list had $10 million items on it. Gotcha. I wouldn't be skint I would have a warrant.
