patrickvalery Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Sutton wasn't there for us in 1999, his injuries are why we got relegated, if he was fit and Gallacher we would have never gone down. Maybe he and RSC have more in common than they realise. On ability alone he was a superb player for us. That whole side looked beaten in 99. There was a sense of impending doom about the place. I can't work out whether its the same this time around. Certainly amongst the fans it is, but up until the Goodison collapse, the players looked up for it. We shall see i guess.

steverovers Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Would love to have seen Shearer and Garner in the same team! Goal machines the pair of them.
chris Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 WAG for me. Ward and Grabbi Ward got 6 goals in 4 months and would equal 12 over a season.
Torgeir Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Ward got 6 goals in 4 months and would equal 12 over a season. Scary that it's better than anyone in our current squad. I'd have Shearer of course.
den Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Shearer and Fred Pickering together, would have been absolutely enormous.
Waggy76 Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 This one is easy Alan Shearer , without any thought , I would even play him at his age now ... Sutton wasn't there for us in 1999, his injuries are why we got relegated, if he was fit and Gallacher we would have never gone down. Very True ,,
yoda Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Simon Garner, Shearer or Tony Field, Any would keep us up
Waggy76 Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Simon Garner, Shearer or Tony Field, Any would keep us up Tony Field , a genius on his day ..
Majiball Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Shearer and Fred Pickering together, would have been absolutely enormous. i realise this is a bit off topic and Fm isn't everyones cup of tea. But I once way way back on the old amiga got a regen come through called Fred Pickering Jnr. You are dead right him and shearer were golden and young pickering ended up Rovers highest ever scorer with about 1200 career goals. Best career game I ever had on FM.
bigbrandjohn Posted April 23, 2011 Author Posted April 23, 2011 just seen Bellamy score a trademark cracker. He wouldn't put up with slackers in the team that prevented him getting goals.
Fife Rover Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 The really is no other realistic answer than Shearer. Nobody else compares. Just compared the records of Briggs and Shearer. Shearer just shades it with 130 goals in 165 appearences = 0.788 goals per game Briggs with 143 goals in 204 appearences = 0.7 per game
Backroom DE. Posted April 23, 2011 Backroom Posted April 23, 2011 Just compared the records of Briggs and Shearer. Shearer just shades it with 130 goals in 165 appearences = 0.788 goals per game Briggs with 143 goals in 204 appearences = 0.7 per game I'd argue Shearer would adapt to the modern game far quicker. Depends how deep the question goes I suppose
yoda Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Tony Field , a genius on his day .. Do you remember a home game, Field won the ball on the right in our half, he lofted the ball forward( to himself!) ran past everyone and cracked a thundrous shot toward goal, it was pouring down as well. The crowd was in stunned amazement.
bazza Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Statistically it has to be Jack Southworth, surely.
FourLaneBlue Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Ashley Ward and Nathan Blake. Just like last time.
chris Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Ashley Ward and Nathan Blake. Just like last time. Only cost 9 million in total
BRFC1995 Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Ashley Ward and Nathan Blake. Just like last time. with ostenstad on bench
FourLaneBlue Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 with ostenstad on bench We didn't get Ostenstad until the season after. We had Kevin Davies at that time instead.
broadsword Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Do you remember a home game, Field won the ball on the right in our half, he lofted the ball forward( to himself!) ran past everyone and cracked a thundrous shot toward goal, it was pouring down as well. The crowd was in stunned amazement. Only Rovers player to play with Pele?
chris Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 7.5 million for Davies 4.5 for Blake 3m Perez 4,25m Ward 4 m McAteer 4m carsley 4 m Jansen 2m Gilespie 3m Davidson I bet our return on these purchases in 1999 season were under 7 million
