snatchymcsnatch Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Love me some Monkey Island, hope Episodes gets released on XBL. Get yourself on Hector: Badge of Carnage if you like adventure games - really good stuff.
Wilko Rover Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 The 'Condemned' series on Xbox. Recently new compared to other titles mentioned in the thread. Discovered it last year, was on sale at Game. Incredible games, couldn't believe i'd never heard of them before. Full of suspense, horror and a bit of detective work... hunting a serial killer who kills serial killers... what's not awesome about that
bluebruce Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 Love me some Monkey Island, hope Episodes gets released on XBL. I tried the first Monkey Island on the repeated recommendations of this thread...have to say, I wasn't very impressed. And no, I'm not vacuous enough to be referring to the graphics, and yes, I like that genre of games. It had its moments but overall, just ok, because at times it really didn't inspire me to play it. Nonetheless I'm going to give the next installment a go in the hope it gets better.
Biddy Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 It's like every game of their time, fantastic then, but a bit pap now. We look back fondly with rose tinted specs. I used to love match day on the spectrum. Best football game ever. I fired it up recently on a speccy emulater and found it hardly payable. Same with Target renegade, although that did still play ok, it was just a bit boring.
beerwins Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 I used to spend my Blackpool holidays pumping 10 pences into double dragon when I was a nipper, had a speccy as a young lad and used to hammer Daley Thompsons decathlon and spy hunter. My mates used to have two amigas linked and we would play rainbow islands and red alert, God I used to love sending my tanya into his base as he was working hard building it. Happy days

See Monkey Island has held up brilliantly for me, still think they're great although I tried SWOS and Speedball again over the ast few years and aren't nearly as playable as I remembered. I think a problem with the current generation is on the most part gameplay is second to graphics, once the games look dated then there isn't enough about the games themselves to stand the test of time. Kind of related, does anyone remember being wowed when leaving the sewers for the first time in Oblivion? Well don't go back it's horrible!
Clitherover Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 Kind of related, does anyone remember being wowed when leaving the sewers for the first time in Oblivion? Well don't go back it's horrible! I could never get into Oblivion in the first place, the first few hours were brilliant but after a while it all got way too repetitive, particularly trying to close all of the portals to Oblivion. Fallout 3 is a better game by the same developers imo, although i doubt many would agree.
American Rover12 Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 I used to spend my Blackpool holidays pumping 10 pences into double dragon when I was a nipper What a fantastic game. Great (re)call.
Hasta Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Anyone remember Paradroid on the C64 and then later on the Amiga. The Amiga version is still great fun now when emulated.
