[Archived] Sony Playstation PSN Hacked

Recommended Posts

Sony Online Entertainment has admitted that personal details from 24.6 million accounts have been compromised in the same security breach that took PlayStation Network offline last month.

"Customers outside the United States should be advised that we further discovered evidence that information from an outdated database from 2007 containing approximately 12,700 non-US customer credit or debit card numbers and expiration dates (but not credit card security codes) and about 10,700 direct debit records listing bank account numbers of certain customers in Germany, Austria, Netherlands and Spain may have also been obtained - we will be notifying each of those customers promptly.

"There is no evidence that our main credit card database was compromised. It is in a completely separate and secured environment."

When the shop comes back you will have a choice of free games:-

PS3

LittleBigPlanet

inFAMOUS

Wipeout HD/Fury

Ratchet & Clank: Quest For Booty

Dead Nation

PSP gamers have the choice of:

LittleBigPlanet PSP

ModNation PSP

Pursuit Force

Killzone Liberation

From the above I would recommend Infamous for those that haven't played it. Graphics are not brilliant but the gameplay is. Infamous 2 will be out next month and they have sorted the graphics out so good timing really.

Non PSN Plus users will also get 30 days free so that should mean you should be able to download the previous games that were up there aswell for free - such as Sonic 2.

Anyone that was already paying for it will get 60 days for free.

No, not done again but they've had to take all systems down again because the method they implemented for users to reset their passwords meant that the hackers who have the accounts could quite easily reset all accounts themselves via the website.

Sony have now fixed the issue (they reckon) however there is now a new problem for them. According to reports, the new enforced firmware (3.61) is causing older PS3's to overheat, redlight or just turn off whilst playing games.

This is confirmed by Rockstar themselves as it appears to be affecting LA Noire PS3 firmware causing systems to overheat
