Every good player MUST play for the 'big' clubs? In fact they MUST play for the big teams before they've even completed a full season for the club they supposedly 'love'.

So, why do we even bother?

Yes you are correct but if we had not had such a poor season last season maybe PJ would be thinking maybe we can get in to Europe. But lets be honest that is a million miles away at the moment.

Thing is BKR, I am not realy disagreeing with you. We have got to a situation in this country in which clubs like us don't have a chance to progress, as the whole football culture is completely biased to a select few clubs.

there's only one reason why the £16M clause has come out - Phils agent, whoever that is.

Whoever agreed to a £16 million release clause in the contract is massively at fault here, ridiculous.

What if he had an 8 million release fee before he signed his new deal ? Then you could say it was a good business to offer him a new deal to increase the release fee.

I guess we will neer know if this was the case but it makes sense.

What would have made sense would be to not have any clause, considering Phil is one of the most promising young English players in the game. New contract, perfect opportunity to remove any such clause.

Now, it looks like we will have no choice but to sell for a price that the club might not be happy with. Rubbish by whoever at the club agreed to it.

I honestly don't think that is true.

We need to build new team.

Yes we have new owners and they have put money in to the club which is great. its defiantly a step forward than where we were treading water.

Now its up to the Manager to spend that wisely. For me we need a new strike force ASAP. Roberts and Benjani are not a premiership strike force.

So Jones will go and hopefully the manager will get all the Jones money and what ever the new owners are putting in.

If that money is spent wisely there is no reason to think we can not finish higher in the league.

The higher in the league we finish the more money we get. The higher in the league the better players we can attract. With the more money we get from bigger gates and the extra from finishing up the league allow us to buy better players.

This is how its work. Yes if you can short cut it if you have bags of money. But then you pay over the odds for players and their wages like Man City.

If you look at it from Jones point of view moving to one of these bigger teams does not come around often.

He could have an excellent season for Rovers and his value would rise and maybe the Bigger European teams will come knocking.

or

He could get injured and he has lost his chance.

As long as Rovers get a fair price we should all move on.

Cheers

BKR

I don't understand why a player would want to leave his 'boyhood' club at such a young age. He won't come back if he lives. And the grass isn't always greener. Not many players leave and go on to better things. It could be a massive mistake for him to leave when still developing as a player.

Yes that is 100% correct but for all we know PJ might not have signed a new contract with out that clause.

I've spoken out against get out clauses on here, many times. Why rovers continue to use them I don't know. Well, I suppose I do really, - but the problem is that once the player has signed that contract, the future is in the hands of another club's manager. Seems to me that rovers use these clauses more than any other Premier League club.

Im with you Ferrit. I wonder who inserted that clause.

I think its already been mentioned that he possibly had a release clause in his deal already, this one safeguards the club even further if so.

It’s hard for the club really, in that they wanted to reward the lad for his performances, and the only way to do that is improve his deal, Jones will have wanted a clause inserting, we had to agree, or he’d not sign the deal.

I have to say I think he’s getting bad advice from his agent, the move to a bigger club will happen, but he needs to continue to learn and develop with us, not warm the bench at a top 4 club.

Also a Rovers fan, he should be showing some loyalty to the club he supports, I know if I was in his shoes, I’d without doubt give the club another 12months, but that’s just me I guess.

BangkokRover.

If a club wants to strengthen the playing staff, they should start with replacing the weaknesses in the squad, rather than replacing the better players. That's how successful teams build sides. There's only one outcome from continually selling your best players.

Because there's nothing to report Kelbo. All this "Rovers in crisis" stuff is complete fabrication, and you're a part of it.

You pushed the "Kean backstabbed Allardyce" angle relentlessly last winter. Now that would be a MASSIVE story - back page nectar for the NOTW or People or Mirror to break such goings on at a PL club. The red tops all have people reading this messageboard and yet NONE of them have gone anywhere near your claims.

The biggest red top story involving Rovers this season has been Givet's underwear receipt. You seem to think there's much more to be told. Well - let's hear it then.

Now read my post again, you are quite correct, so why arent the newspapers publishing anything regarding what occurred, that was my question, you are indeed correct, the red tops would be queuing up for the story, so again I reiterate, why??

I agree completely agree with Ferrit, but like others said most players won't sign a new deal unless there is a clause in there.

Trouble is most players see us as a stepping stone...even Phil Jones who is a Rovers fan.

This is the question that I am sure PJ is thinking about by leaving the small pond of Ewood he is going to have to fight for his place. Half a season of not playing at his top level and he will be replaced, maybe loaned out or he will drown in the reserves.

This is why having a plan and being clever in the transfer market is the only way for Rovers to move up. Which is why Hughes was so good for the club, he had a very good back room team with him and in general he bought well in the transfer market.

Thing is. Phil Jones would have more than likely grown pretending to be Rovers players on the playground at school and with mates. Now he's got the chance to emulate his heroes - to consider to leaving is something I just cannot understand. The club nurtured him and helped him be the player he is today. Owes more than a season and a half. Of which half he was injured.

I suspect that he feels the club can not take him where he wants to go or of course it could all be down to money?
