imy9 Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I'll be amazed if that happens LeC. Junior has said that he wants to sign a new contract so I am more optomistic about him signing.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Very sad but what can we do as fans?....a sigh and a shrug of the shoulders. I do believe that if we do lose Samba as well we are in the brown stuff up to our eye balls come next season.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I really hope it works for him. I'm fed up of seeing players who I have enjoyed watching, who have played great at Blackburn, go on to ruin their career for the sake of "better" football elsewhere. Obviously if he joins United then at least he has a great teacher in Sir Alex and he really does have a great opportunity to improve and become a world class defender at a major club. Saying that, I am totally gutted that he hasn't stayed for at least 1 more season because he was guaranteed to play every week at Rovers next season and really improve at a club which has taught him so much.
RoverInWigan Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 9 years at the club played a handful of games and he is off at the first opportunity. If one of our own local so called supporters has no loyalty what sort of message does this send out to the likes of Hoilett and Olsson
Dan Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Gutted, I guess I should be used to it by now, but it doesn't get any easier. It's such a great thing a a football fan to see 'one of your own' come through the ranks and make such a great impression, possibly makes it harder to swallow than Bellamy or Bentley going in recent times.
Exiled_Rover Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Well that's me holding off on my season ticket renewal then. Let's see what the colour of the Rao's money is.
den Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Junior has said that he wants to sign a new contract so I am more optomistic about him signing. So did Phil Jones.
Backroom Tom Posted June 8, 2011 Backroom Posted June 8, 2011 If I had to pick one to keep and one to lose between Junior and Jones I'd keep Junior anyday he is far harder to replace for the team. If Samba stayed (unlikely) we could be fine even with Givet slotting in, when Hoilett doesn't play there is a huge void in the team.
imy9 Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 So did Phil Jones. Well if Junior signs a long term deal we can price him out- with one year left we can't.
ThatRabbitsDynamite Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I do believe that if we do lose Samba as well we are in the brown stuff up to our eye balls come next season. I agree and if Arsenal ARE trully serious about a defender then i am very fearful about the upcoming season.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Well that's me holding off on my season ticket renewal then. Let's see what the colour of the Rao's money is. For the first time in 25 years I'm thinking the same thoughts Exiled,I'm really sorry to say too.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I'd be happy to see Givet at centre back as long as we can find a proper left back. Nelsen, Samba (IF he stays) and Givet are still strong. This season is going to be an even bigger season for young Hanley. Maybe it's time for him to step up and make a name for himself at Ewood. At the moment I don't think he's impressed me enough but I hope he's going to prove me wrong next season!
roversmum Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Nice to see the 'true' fans standing by the club. Did someone mention Jones being disloyal?
Rovermatt Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Furious about this. Livid in fact. I think the blame rests with the club completely. A 16m release clause is nothing when you're talking about young English talent. Releases clauses should either deter suitors or assure the selling club silly money. This has done neither. Sure 16m is a lot of dosh but frankly we could have got a lot more - United weren't phased in the slightest by the figure. To see our finest young player in years turning out (from time to time) for that shower of scum will take some getting used to. At we can now believe our apparently wealthy owners when they say they've money to spend. Who is next I wonder? Samba anyone?
Gav Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 9 years at the club played a handful of games and he is off at the first opportunity. Its a great point, typical modern day footballer, simple as that. I'm not the least bit bothered by the fact he's gone, it’s not worth getting wound up about. Phil Jones you're nothing more than another premiership mercenary, motivated by money, and care nothing about the club that developed you or its supporters.
Rover & Out Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Could we buy a better centre back that Phil Jones for £16m or less? YES Could we buy a centre back with more 'potential' than Phil Jones? NO
True Blue & White Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I feel sick to be honest. I fully expected to lose Samba this window and hoped we could hang on to Jones but now I can't see us keeping either of them and with Nelsen getting older we will need a whole new defence for next season. Firstly I'm sick of people saying "you would move to a bigger company on more money if offered". Being a footballer is not a normal job and no one grows up supporting or having any love for the business they end up working for except in football. If I grew up loving Barclays bank, following everything they did and admiring them as a company and I got a job with them then no, I don't think I would automatically jump ship if Lloyds TSB offered me more money. Jones is 19 and hasn't played a full season for us yet, he's not 22 or 23 and had a few years playing for his "boyhood club" under his belt. He's caught they eye of a few pundits and jumped at the first chance. His new contract which we all were celebrating when he signed it is like a kick in the teeth now, basically he's been paid more for the last few months of the season (most of which he was injured) and made sure with the 16m clause he could get out as soon as possible. The worse thing is whatever you think of Jones improving his prospects, he may well have just started an exodus with Samba and Hoillet following him which ultimately could see us relegated next season. Well if that happens all I can say is well done Phil on helping to possibly relegate your "boyhood club". I see his missus on Twitter, who feels the need to mention she is going out with Jones in every tweet, has been on today looking forward to becoming a proper WAG and getting in Heat magazine. There is no reason what-so-ever Jones couldn't have given us two more seasons at least, shame on you Phil, Kean and Venky's...a sad day for the club.
Mattyblue Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Nice to see the 'true' fans standing by the club. Did someone mention Jones being disloyal? Well SG194 is one of the most passionate blues I have ever come across on , if fans like him are saying that, it must be with a heavy heart.
Blackburn Ravers Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 For the first time in 25 years I'm thinking the same thoughts Exiled,I'm really sorry to say too. why? because we`ve sold 1 player,

Then we will need a new centre back or 2 if Samba goes plus a left back

A very sad sign of the times Your post is spot on TBW and I'm sure, strikes a chord with most Rovers fans as to their thoughts over this move.

There is no reason what-so-ever Jones couldn't have given us two more seasons at least, shame on you Phil, Kean and Venky's...a sad day for the club. Several sources (inc. Andy Cryer on Twitter yesterday (i think)) have suggested that the club tried extremely hard to keep him but it wasn't to be. Maybe we are lucky to get so much money for him BECAUSE we tied him down on a newer, longer contract. If we set the release fee above 16m, maybe Jones wouldnt have signed the new contract and we would have seen him leave for a lot less. I guess we won't know till the truth comes out. I'm not going to blame Kean or Venky's for him leaving but it's important to see how they respond to this and how we move on as a club.

koi Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 Oh come on, you're a young lad and Man Utd come in for you is everyone seriously saying they'd turn it down to stay at Rovers? I wouldn't, I'd want to play for the biggest and the best. Of course it's very disappointing to lose such a promising prospect but that's life for us. What does leave me shaking my head is the fee - of course it's good for us but £15m+ for a largely unproven young player, that's just insane. The price tag for home-grown talent is well and truly out of control.
