Oh come on, you're a young lad and Man Utd come in for you is everyone seriously saying they'd turn it down to stay at Rovers? I wouldn't, I'd want to play for the biggest and the best. Of course it's very disappointing to lose such a promising prospect but that's life for us. What does leave me shaking my head is the fee - of course it's good for us but £15m+ for a largely unproven young player, that's just insane. The price tag for home-grown talent is well and truly out of control.

I'd stay at Rovers, but as I've said - I hate every other club in the English league. I'd move abroad if I had to leave Rovers.

Several sources (inc. Andy Cryer on Twitter yesterday (i think)) have suggested that the club tried extremely hard to keep him but it wasn't to be. Maybe we are lucky to get so much money for him BECAUSE we tied him down on a newer, longer contract. If we set the release fee above 16m, maybe Jones wouldnt have signed the new contract and we would have seen him leave for a lot less. I guess we won't know till the truth comes out. I'm not going to blame Kean or Venky's for him leaving but it's important to see how they respond to this and how we move on as a club.

Didn't he still have a few years left on his old contract though before he signed his improved (for him) deal? As I said, all that new contract did was guarantee him more money for the last 5 months of his time here which for most he was injured and put an easily attainable £16m clause in it. Duff had a £17m clause and that donkey years ago when only Chelsea could realistically afford it, £16m nowadays could be paid easily by at least 4 or 5 clubs so it was bleeding obvious it would be met in the summer so yes Kean/Venky's should share the blame.

In hindsight, it would have been better if he never signed it.

Some people don't want to hear the truth. All they want is another thing to blame on Venkey's and Kean...

No,because I want to see ALL of this money reinvested into our squad,I want Venky's to 'do' rather than talk.

(of course that money also includes the FULL proceeds of any more f'kin sales of our better players too  )

Exactly, which it won't be. We'll be lucky to see half of that, spent on washed up journeymen who will 'do a job'.

It's also not just one player. It's every single stand out player in the last decade. What's the point of following a football team if the second one of your players raises his head above the parapet he's poached?

Makes me laugh when Man United win a title and the press will ask 'how do they do it? 'what makes United so special?' etc etc.

Well nothing, they have just got themselves into a position that means they can buy and pay the very best- so they win trophies, so they get more and more glory hunting fans, so more top players want to go there, they win more trophies, the media and players think that every top player MUST go there and on and on it goes.

I'm past the point of being disappointed or even sick of this happening at this stage. Players have played and starred for Rovers over the last 15 years and almost all of them bar perhaps Duff have down feck all at their new clubs, a fate which I think Jones is damned to repeat. I couldn't give a rats arse about Jones as he now seems to be all but gone and is no longer a Rovers players.

I will continue to support Rovers come hell or high water, COYB!!!

What is worrying me is that there are sources suggesting that the fee is reported to be over or under 16m.

This worries me because:

A - We're getting paid in installments and add ons and won't see ALL the money up front

B - If it's based on add ons i.e. club/international appearances - then technically he could go for a lot less than we could have got and we will never see it all.

C - We're getting a @#/? player chucked in with the deal which boosts the overall fee up

If I was lucky enough to be playing for the side I supported as a boy, having only played 26 games, I'd be staying regardless of who came in, but thats just me.

Logic

You make me laugh, you really do.

I'm a fairly logical kind of guy, I've not yet been able to deuce that Jones wanted to leave us before playing a full season.

Has he been agitating for a move? Has he criticised the club in the media? Has he handed in a transfer request? Have there been rumours of him looking for a move? Is there any logical reason for a footballer who's still developing to forsake regular first team games in the premiership in order to warm the bench at Man Utd?

Answer: no.

I thought the understanding was that he already had a lower clause in his contract. Hence getting him to sign was a good thing.

People are looking on Jones signing a new contract in January with a 16 million release clause as a bad thing. We could be sat here having to accept a hell of a lot less for him, as his old contract will have had a lower fee release clause. His agent and Rovers will have agreed the fee, too high and he won't sign.

Players have left before, and will again (except our Keith who i am convinced is somehow bomb proof). The key to this whole issue is re-investing all the money on quality. That's basically the litmus test for our much loved owners

That's just it GAV, he never seemed to be a 'fan' to me.

Dunny for all his faults seemed to 'get it', banging on about the Dingles, going to Ewood as a kid, his Grandad etc, never got that from Jones.

I know nothing about contracts so I could be totally wrong, so I apologise if I am, but I remember Nicko saying that transfer fees are basically there to pay off the remainder of a contract. So having signed a new contract, his wages would have been more which meant a higher compensation (transfer) fee to Rovers.

What planet are you on?

The reason is that it's Man Utd. I reckon within a few months of next season he will be called up to the England squad and will be talked about in glowing terms.

He doesn't get that here and never will.

Maybe because he's hardly played in the first team Matty, people forget he's only been around for a year, hardly time to hammer the dingles etc :D

If he really is an actual fan of Blackburn Rovers he should be holding his head in shame for me, but he won't give a toss, and neither should we, move on.

Jones is from Preston isn't he? Never seemed to be a Rovers fan, he's never mentioned it I don't think.

He is only 19 years old. Been at the club since aged 11 (I think) he would have been taught to toe the line. Also he has only been in the first team for the equilivant of one season. level headed and just gets on with it.

Has he ever said he was a Rovers fan? He's probably a United fan
